I just hot the hot wire tool from Woodland Scenic & I love it, so far. I'm new to this whole hot wire scene & I know I will need more of the nichrome wire. What size would I need to replace it, bc when I go onto their page they want me to use theirs & I want to have a spool on hand instead?

There are quite a few DIY foam cutter videos. Many lack technical information about their cutters. I have N80 30awg nichrome wire. I tried making DIY foam cutter using 9V battery but generated no heat. I even tried 2 x 9V batteries and still no heat. Batteries are fully charged. I have a telephone transformer (adaptor) 120v input and output 9V. I was thinking of using the adaptor. I also viewed a DIY foam cutter video using usb connection with usb as a charger or connected to computer. But I am afraid I will blow my usb port if I try this method. I prefer not using batteries if possible. Any suggestions why I was not getting any heat from the nichrome wire. I also viewed a video that was using a thin steel wire from frame wire. I tried that also and no heat.

Nirup MS U can use any metallic wire. The secret is, you need to buy a small gauge wire. Different wires will be hotter or colder depending on the gauge and type of wire.
