Hot work is any work that involves burning, welding, cutting, brazing, soldering, grinding, using fire- or spark-producing tools, or other work that produces a source of ignition. Working with ignition sources near flammable materials is also referred as "hot work."

For example, in the acetylene cylinders the liquid (acetone) is at the bottom of the tank and the gas (acetylene) is at the top. When you keep cylinder horizontal, acetone liquid will be drawn from the cylinders with the gas resulting in significant leakage of acetone. This will expand several times and create a much greater hazard.
