Nigerian highlife is the music of southeastern Nigerian and it is a cultural sound of that part of Nigeria. Nigerian highlife is a folk sound of that part of Nigeria. Nigerian highlife is still a thriving genre in the southeastern part of Nigeria. The Nigerian highlife has nothing to do with Fela. Fela is the originator of Afrobeat, not Nigerian highlife. The Nigerian highlife kings, all of them late are; Rex Lawson, Celestine Ukwu, Osita Osadebe and Victor Owaifo. These Nigerian nightlife legends did not come to Ghana to learn their trade. The Nigerian highlife is a way of live music for people of the southeastern part of Nigeria. Never heard of Ghana Highlife growing up. The music that was popular in southeastern Nigeria is Nigeria Highlife by Rex Lawson, Celestine Ukwu, Osita Osadebe and Victor Owaifo. They are all late, these people were already high-life legends in the'50ss and '60s. In that same time frame, OK Jazz from Congo was en vogue in the southeastern part of Nigeria, not Ghana highlife. I don't know why Ghanaians always think they influence Nigerian music. Nigeria has more than 250 tribes and each tribe has its way of life and distinctive music. Research the nightlife maestros I have listed before responding again, please.
