Several years ago I was on my way by ferry from England to Normandie to attend another D Day anniversary, We got into a conversation with a small group of Ranger/ veterans, The one elderly gentleman was from Corpus Christy Texas and he told us how he was part of the assault force at Point Du Hoc, He was wounded early on in the fight and had to lay all day on the beach before he could be evacuated. He said he still had the bullet lodged in his body, We were privileged to shake this mans hand and say thank you, I would have liked to have given the same measure of gratitude to your Great Grandfather. Its because the m1 carbine is a pea shooter. Its widely regarded as one of the worst battle rifles the us ever issued.
@smasher.338
@smasher.338 4 жыл бұрын
@Robert Demon Its arguable. I would tend to agree with you only because audits of german field hospitals have no cases of troops being wounded or killed w 45s. But the 45 was almost exclusively a rear guard weapon for non combat troops and officers. If germans got behind the lines of American forces, very rarely did they have enough man power or resources to worry about casualties let alone set up a field hospital before they were pushed back again. The m1 carbine was made because most of the time rear echelon troops ONLY carried a 45, and this was made/issued so they would at least have something an average soldier could be accurate with more than 25 meters. Is it beter than a 45? Not at close distance, and at medium ranges... not by much lol.
@kal.50bmg32
@kal.50bmg32 3 жыл бұрын
And BTW: The M1 Carbine had a 15 rounds magazine.

@Robert Demon Thats one report on one mos. But i still agree with you unless we are talking about distance inside of 25 meters.
@connorolio
@connorolio 3 жыл бұрын
Robert Demon not really. The 45 is inaccurate over distance but it’ll stop someone dead in there tracks. The m1 carbines shot 30 cal pistol rounds at low velocity and therefore they had an unpredictable bullet pattern. M1 garand was great tho, 30-06 is a Perfect round

You can blame that on the Naval commander of the Utah section Tank landing ships he as coming under fire and ordered the tanks launched way too early and far from the shore. Having so many things around, don’t you worry something’d go off for some reason? I mean if your museum caught fire that’d be the equivalent of an ICMB landing in Colorado

Actually no, he has very little historical knowledge (just google some numbers he mentions or city names). I think this collections is absolutely stunning and has great historical value but he is just bragging around about how expensive or rare his stuff is!
