Day 2 on the Mojave Road includes the most difficult and dangerous terrain of the entire trip, the climb up Paiute Ridge and the descent into Watson Wash. After reaching a campsite at Fort Paiute on Day 1, HotCars contributor Michael Van Runkle and his Dad push their two Mitsubishi Monteros further into the desert and closer to the limit of their abilities in this installment.
The stock '98 proves that Mitsubishi built the Montero properly, while the modded '94 shows just how valuable all those expensive upgrades really are. Other highlights along the way include an incredible water source at Marl Springs, the Mojave Mailbox, and lava flows that provide some protection from the incessant wind.

Stay tuned for Day 3 of the adventure featuring the dry Soda Lake, Traveler's Monument, Afton Canyon, and plenty of sand dunes.

Great video. I can honestly say that you didn't get even close to pushing your Monteros to their limits. I comfortably drive roads like that at 20 to 30mph in mine routinely, granted I've got 25 yrs of experience doing it. Air down, pull those sway bars, and relax, you don't need more than 2 wheels on the ground.

Well done going down that steep hill with the Montero. The old girl did well. Do you still have the Montero?
