Rice is also a good way absorbing moisture, if you get you mobile wet for example, put it in a bag of rice and the rice absorbs the moisture, but the teabag will work as well. A great video, thanks for sharing your knowledge of Tomica, diecast is a minefield of mistakes if you do not take the time to learn about the care and background of your car and manufacturer. I live in a dam property and I use a dehumidifier, one of the best things I ever purchased, the good ones are expensive, but it better for your health, the property and your possessions if you have no damp, around 60% humidity is good, the human body begins to suffer below 50%, so I have found 60% to be comfortable. The premium suit my pocket and outlook better, I like opening parts and TLV has none of those, I do have some TLV and the detail is great, but you do not get anywhere near the value of the premium range, I guess thats why they make different ranges to suit different people, the flip up headlights on the premium cars is brilliant, but the wheels are not as realistic, but this does not bother me, as opening parts come before delicate detail.

There is a fix for sticky rubber wheels. You need to use flour. It absorbs the stickiness without damaging it. Alcohol does not help as it can damage the wheels. The negative side is the wheels can become in white color, so I don't know how to remove that... Maybe research on how to remove stickiness off rubber WITHOUT alcohol, ethanol etc...

As someone who collects and really into TLV, this video provides a nice crash course on their products and what to expect when collecting them. Although, regarding to paint rash while you display them, maybe one of the factor it develop rashes quickly is because you use wooden display case with no door to protect them from outside element (assuming your display shelves for TLV are the same as the one in the background). Wood absorb moisture and it may affect on the area surrounding the display case (including those cars sitting inside the wooden case). I may suggest investing in glass display shelf with added silica gel to display and preserve them. Or maybe use acrylic shelf for more affordable alternative. Or, you know, just accept the fate like many SEA collectors here.
@HotKustoms3 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for sharing. Btw i using a vintage Tomica shelf for display i have 4 such display cases with covers. I took out the cover to cut off reflection. Cheers. Currenltly Im thinking of using glass base display

@bundi24083 жыл бұрын
@@HotKustoms yeah. Sooner or later they will develop rashes no matter how well you keep it. Even the new old stock I usually bought and some retired models I bought used have rashes on them. Paint rash is like a norm in collecting TLV (and some brands like Minichamp and Kyosho) in here.
@seismic64353 жыл бұрын
@@bundi2408 and that's unacceptable for stuff that costs as much as TLV does. I have "Premium" castings dating back to 1999 from brands like Revell and Racing Champions (Fast and Furious) that have been loose and stored improperly for almost 20 years. No rashing. Those used to cost less than $2 USD 20 years ago; Hot Wheels have always been $1 USD just for a frame of reference. TLV is the Hot Wheels of premium diecast; no matter how poor their product is, people will still continue to buy everything
@scotthaan10463 жыл бұрын
TLV is great but they are too expensive to collect many of them. Meanwhile, Hotwheels premium series offer pretty good quality and detail with the price of $5, which is the price of standard Tomica. $5 is low enough price for me to pick up one or two when shopping groceries at super market. But $25-100 price of TLV, I have to think over very cautiously to get one.

My problem with TLV is on most of their sedan models they all use the same ugly street legal drag tire to save cost. The SUV, truck and Nissan GT-R (and maybe some other cars the company considered "special" ) do have their own unique tire.

Spot on truths. The special boxes are a waste of money we pay for just to throw away. The DIY parts is unacceptable at these prices and why can't they give 2 or 3 sets of the parts for spares? Sadly for me, 50%+ of mine came with paint problem new out of the box. Now I only buy them if I can see the paint finish first. I had sticky rubber on other toys and Meguiars Marine Rubber Cleaner Protectant worked.

To my knowledge, sticky tires and the bulges on the surface painting are the really big and common problems to TLV. Some say this is because the influence of humidity from different climates and places, and the climate of Japan never has such concern🥺. They seem like a irreversible problem, and the proactive methods are either keep them dry with dehumidifier or domestic desiccant.
