King(with a song that originally charted in 1961, to boot), Steve Winwood, Boston, Kansas, Eddie Money, Journey, and Boston, as well as Bon Jovi, Madonna, Gregory Abbot, Oran "Juice" Jones, Cameo, Cyndi Lauper, Don Johnson, and others, to name a few... A mix of newer artists, and artists who have been making hits going all the way back to the late 1950s... Not to mention the different genres represented in this chart alone... rock, pop, soul, R&B, new wave, etc., and the whole shebang is topped off with a hair metal song at #1...

Real music!!! That's music for my ears. Today's music is crap. Yes, CRAP So happy to see Madonna's True Blue at number 3. And Human by Human league at 2. It eventually reached the number 1/ Excellent chart/topper.

Now, if Billboard go back and correct the years between 1983 to 1997 when they excluded several genres? How many country songs actually a Hot 100 during that time period? George Strait, The Judds, Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson are a few that have great selling singles during that time period.

@@suzanneselby988 Only during that time period, Restless Heart and Billy Ray Cyrus was on there. Before then, the songs were there. In 1983, Billboard change the rules and all which several genres were not included over all. Pop charts had songs that were known as popular which country songs did rule the charts a lot. Brenda Lee was known as a country rocker. She ruled both charts with her hits.

@@Spitfirethedragon yes, I know that. The charts were based on airplay and sales and unfortunately record company influence. Also by 1983 the charts were heavily influenced by having a video on MTV which didn't play the country songs. Country doesn't need the hot 100, they sell very well . In, fact Brenda lee has been showing up in the last few years at Christmas time. It's that time of year again!☃️🍭🎄
