thanks for the review Leo. For the older ampero II stomp users the major problem with this new unit is that a lot of its features were missed promised updates for the II Stomp. Those "future updates" were never delivered. Ampero II Stomp are waiting for scenes and gapless transitions effects for more than an year now. The terrible stomp mode switch that terrifies everybody that use the unit to play live are also a promised fix. Both units share the same DSP power but Hotone support was really bad and never delivered what is being promised.
@quiksilver78 Жыл бұрын
This is exactly what terrifies me instead when these companies swing for fences to compete with HX devices and ghost their users when they decide to work on the next model. At €700 it's a tough sell when the track record says otherwise.
@vaughanmacegan4012 Жыл бұрын
That is the exact reason why I never bought the the Fender TMP, I just don't believe Fender will bring out updates - I hope I am wrong for the thousands of Fender users. Although one thing Hotone did do for the Stomp was reduce the latency on the Cab block - but still left the Cab block on the Stage at 7.8, what were they thinking. Hopefully that will be fixed at some unspecified time in the future, the latency of the IRs is good though..
@kellecetraro4807 Жыл бұрын
It's not encouraging to hear that Hotone left the Ampero Stomp customers hanging out to dry on empty promises.... I'll look into that, but if it holds true... I'm absolutely not buying this unit until they follow through with what they promised those customers 🙏🏼

Well Leo. Just saying I’m over the moon with my ampero stomp2. I didn’t know how I was going to amplify this so I tried putting it through my Marshall dsl 40c as I liked the clean channel. I q’d the clean channel of the Marshall and put it through the front end not through the effects loop. I was shocked. It was the best tone I’ve ever heard. Wow. Tried this with other amps with varied success. I’m sure it will work with some amps this way but not all. I have all the tube roundness with the ampero patch’s. Great video.

@YpsiJoshmccullough11 ай бұрын
@@thesunilrock20 At this point, I'd say the Ampero Stage. The GP 200 has a few more blocks per row, but it's only got one row. The Stage has more input options and is more flexible overall. The tones are quite similar to my ear.
@thesunilrock2011 ай бұрын
@@YpsiJoshmccullough didn't understand that row thing can u elaborate? do u mean one preset can have 2 channels going through 2 different amps?
@YpsiJoshmccullough11 ай бұрын
@@thesunilrock20 that's possible, yes, but it'll start to run into processing limits. Just look at some of the videos and the manual online; there are two inputs on the Ampero vs one on the GP 200, so you have more options for using multiple instruments, or a mic and an instrument, at the same time.

I have a PRS Custom 24 Piezo Guitar that has 2 Guitar Jacks and I plug into both Inputs on the Stage and go into Parallel mode where I can set up different Effects for each input. One input is the Piezo and the Other is the magnetic pickup. Endless fun experimenting with different FX's on each input. Great Video Leo- I appreciate how you break down talking points in all your reviews which make watching your video's just about essential for product research. I only recently stumbled upon the amp modeler world when i was ending my teaching career at a very large music store chain here in the states and wanted to grab as much as i could with my employee discounted. the Headrush gig board was the stepping stone into this arena ending with Ola Englund introducing me to Hotone. I was instantly blown away, bought the stomp, and pink mp-100 ampero, and really like it for what i was looking for ( just effects through the send/return from my amps in stereo or Wet/Dry/Wet) then at Namm at met the hotone peeps and saw the Stage...I have to have this thing...wish it came with a people but...without dropping $2 K on a fractal...I think this will meet my needs as I begin my journey from the studio to playing live. thanks again.

Another stellar musical and gear-specific presentation! Loving your channel a lot! As for the unit, I ordered it a couple days ago, and it will arrive soon. My intended use: vocals + acoustic + electric guitar, as a solo performer of covers from A to Z. As such, I‘d encourage you to also showcase how well the unit fares with vocals (vocal effects) and acoustic guitars (effects and IRs). Such a shame the unit doesn’t offer vocal harmonies as auto-generated based on the guitar‘s signal!!! If it could do that, it would take a corner of the market that Ampero and ALL other makers are sorely neglecting. There are many of us out there doing solo gigs and needing vocal harmonies from time to time, just to sweeten the sound a bit and make certain covers work well. Incidentally, I also recently purchased the (much more expensive) Fender Tone Master Pro, and am currently testing it. It has better processing power, with parallel effects and amps possible on both of two channels (mic and guitar), but it also lacks vocal harmonies, and I‘m not fond of the compressors offered (too little choice for studio compression of acoustic guitar) or the choruses for acoustic, or the EQ (!) for acoustic. Too few bands available, and no shelving filters to cut top or bottom end (which is only possible by adding an IR). Maybe Fender will improve these points over time, but if not, I‘ll sell it and take the loss. In the meantime, the Ampero Stage will be a similar solution for me, with a much more compact footprint and lower weight. I will see which of the two units please me the most. So please, dear Leo, consider covering the vocal and acoustic-guitar capabilities of this unit (and all others) in future reviews. Thanks. :-)

Than you so much, I'm really happy that you lie the music and the channel!!! Yes, it would be nice to try it with voice...but you know.... I'm not very capable in terms of singing....😀 Thank you also for sharing your experience with the Tone Master .... interesting points...thanks!!!
@scottbecker3485 Жыл бұрын
@@LeoGibsonGtr Yes, I understand that your strengths are very much more in the world of guitars than as a singer. ;-) That said, perhaps a friend of yours who sings could have a look at the vocal features of all devices equipped with a vocal channel and effects, and you could at least give a short mention of what is available - for example, if vocal harmonies are possible, or wether the pitch correction works well or not. But of course this might not be your thing. At any rate, the effects and IRs that are intended for acoustic guitar deserve a closer look, and many of your viewers might appreciate that, too. You could perhaps even feature a bit of acoustic playing in your usual musical intro. Acoustic guitars call for more EQ bands, clean compression, etc., and those needs may or may not be met by units aimed mostly at electric guitar players.

A shout out and thank you for your musicianship and the quality of your solos and video analyses. You are the best by far. I already have an Ampero 2 Stomp. I also own a gX-10 just recently, which has the best tone for me I have ever heard (but ill have to check the A2S again, since it has been some time. In addition I am really frustrated by the fact that I can only play one guitar with effects at a time.... :) That said, I was dragged kicking and screaming against my will to Amazon where I was forced to purchase the stage. The lack of XLR input for the mic on the Stomp (even though it will do two channels for guitar/vocal, and the idiotic omission on the GX-10 of the Aux In on an otherwise brilliant machine were enough to force my purchas. (I know, I know, there are small mixer that will do the trick, but I may be able to defray the cost on Reverb (and I still have 22 days to return the GX-10 to zzounds if I have to.) But after 60 years of desperately fighting these battles I am finally getting the tones I had only dreamed of (with a ittle help from the Adeline pickup on my Flamenco guitar). (I would like to return to scale practice someday though ... (wistfully) ... :)

I want to stress again that my use case is different from most reading this comment - I am playing a nylon-string Flamenco guitar with an Adeline pickup into a Headrush FRFR GO at low volumes (relative to death metal, anyway...) so YMMV. That said - I just spent the day comparing the Overdrives between my Boss OD-200 and my other units - the OD's in the H One, the Ampero 2 Stomp and the MS-200D+. While the latter three could be brought into shooting range between them, the drives sounded very similar to each other just with mild tweaking, almost distinctions without differences. It seemed to me that the OD-200 had more difference between the variations, but more importantly much more range in the tweak parameters; in the bass, mid and treble controls but also in the drive/level controls. I then went back to the GX-100 and found the same result as the OD-200 - lots more range in the OD controls. There is nothing wrong with the other OD's, of course, but the Boss versions really made me a happy camper. I have an Ampere 2 Stage arriving tomorrow, so will see if the perceptions hold.

Thankyou Leo for the review. The only thing that I think could've made your intro better would've been using a piezo pickup blended into the sound from the Hotone - but, still great regardless. Thankyou also for the comparisons of the Slo, Plexi and Fender, very much appreciated to hear that they are at least in the right ballpark :). I know that the latency isn't great with the cab block, but I can live with the IR's and the MIDI isn't working for whatever reason, however this isn't a deal breaker for me. So, this unit is going straight to the top of the *Unit to Buy* list. I'll just wait for the Mooer GE1000 review and make a final decision. I can get an FM3 for a couple hundred more and have the best sounding modeller ( to my ears with the best effects sound wise ) for just a little more. Also, I would probably buy a Boss GT1000 or the core model. I personally don't need all the foot switches since I only need about three main times usually for what I play. If i may ask, how would this unit behaves with a four cable method in live conditions? my idea it's the following: i wanted to use the ampero2 stage as a complete pedal Rig connected to my real AMP (ENGL Iron Ball SE). This amp has an XLR out an can be send directly to a PA at the same time that i send to a real cab, so! I want to do the following: 1 - Use the ampero with to lines of effects, using the four cable methond, one for the drives and pre amp things (pitch shift, drives, wah, etc) and the other line with the modulations. 2 - All of this going trough my amp and going to the real cab, so the Ampero will be acting like a Rig on his own, except for the amp and cabs... 3 - by the XLR out of the amp, sending the signal to the PA, and in there prepare an IR that i have prepared to record my music. it will be possible?
@LeoGibsonGtr4 ай бұрын
Hi, it should be possible even if I've not tried my self. My only suggestion is that if you don't use any amp/cab sim, maybe you can check out other units, like the plethora X5 which offers only effects. Thanks!

And again really thanks Leo.

So far, this is a very impressive Modeler, and appears to include some of the best features from Fractal, Line 6, and Neural. I'd be very tempted to purchase one if I didn't already have an HX Stomp. The Hotone site says it includes: "100+ legendary pedal models" "60+ Hotone original effects (incl. high quality drive/dynamic/filter/mod/delay/reverb models and more)" Does the Looper have an "auto sensing" option so it can start recording without having to press a foot switch when it "hears" the guitar start playing? Thanks for another very useful review. 👍

@@hon8177 Have you watched Leon Todd's video demoing this product? I have. Do you think it has "distorted tones" in that video that are bad?
@picksalot1 Жыл бұрын
@@hon8177 I was shocked by how good the Ampero II Stage sounded in Leon Todd's video. The tones reminded me of the Fractal demos he's done. I've never played an Ampero, so my comments on that are based on KZbin videos and good Monitoring Headphones. I did see a different review of the Ampero II Stage where all the tones/Presets were rather disappointing to my ears when played on what I believe was recorded directly into the computer, but sounded really good when played through an Amp. It prompted me to comment in a few places about how important it is to show the full signal path onscreen in the videos so we know what we're hearing on KZbin. I tried finding the video where the Ampero II Stage didn't sound good, but I couldn't find it. Maybe it was taken down. 🤷♀ The Modelers these days are so good, that the results depend more on the end users' skills than anything else. The major differences I see is in the UI and how easy or difficult it is to quickly dial in the desired tone.
@picksalot1 Жыл бұрын
@@hon8177 Yeah, Leon Todd really knows his way around gear and how to get the best sounds out of it. Another great one is Jon Symons YT Sonic Drive Studio Channel. Both these KZbinrs show what kind of excellent results you can get, and how to present the results on YT.

@@hon8177 This isn't a amp in the room live sound - this is a proper mix recorded to a DAW, with post production thrown in otherwise it would sound horrible. Ever hear the original guitar recordings of Welcome to the Jungle by Guns 'n' Roses sounds very ho-hum but in the hands of a skilled mixer it comes alive - more than the sum of the parts. Mixers have been making musicians sound better than they really are since the fifties.

The design and appearance of this unit (including software) is absolutely stellar, Line6 can learn something here. Are the amps & effects the same as earlier Ampero 2? I mean it is still called Ampero 2. Even though the USB interface offers 192 kHz sample rate the internal signal processing is still listed as 44.1 kHz, so I assume they just resample the output.

So, I would really love to hear your thoughts on the Ampero 2 stage vs headrush core. I think units with vocal processing are my ideal choice, but all the reviews I see for either are guitar focused. I'd love to know what you think about the utility and even the demand. In your opinion is this too niche or is it the next major advancement? To me, I love the idea of having 1 rig for vocal and guitar, but don't imagine too many people will show interest in that combo.
@LeoGibsonGtr11 ай бұрын
Interesting topic...the only problem is that I don't have the core....😀 I'm not sure that the vocal chain is gonna to become a standard features in these devices, even because you typically have to add a mic preamp with phantom power, that does not help to keep the price low...

Which is better the Valeton Gp 200 or this?
@LeoGibsonGtr11 ай бұрын
If I remember it well, Valeton is "linked" to Hotone....and they share the same basic amp modeling tech. Then the STAGE has more options...like the possibilities to choose the position of the mic across the cab...parallel effects, etc....if you need these things...the STAGE is better.... Thank you!

I ask but I think there is no possibility of controlling the metronome speed (BPM) with the footswitch (increase and decrease the BPM with 2 footswitch)? And not even it seems to me it is possible to do it through MIDI, I would like hotone to insert this simple but useful function to facilitate the study. Thank you

I believe modeler companies have come to a maturity where they should lead their own way in producing great sounds than relying on names of other brands, how good they emulate them and how many of those emulations they offer. It leads to option paralysis and becomes boring. I am 60 years old and never had the chance -or will have- to play with most of the original products emulated, but I can appreciate a good responsive sound, no matter what the name is. I understand there are certain marketing needs that possibly enslaves them to that. I believe BOSS is the only company that offers their proposals for amp styles.
