What do you think about this kit, the coin and the event that inspired them? Let me know below....

After watching this, I relented and ordered the kit+coin. Glad I did, it's now out of stock! It appears to have sold as well as you hoped!

I have to watch this! As the Hawker Hunter was the first plane I painted the inside of the cockpit and sanded the seams I was so impressed with it I had it nearly four months..... Never like displaying them I just enjoyed making them and once they got too dusty they are gone...

I'd like to think that as part of the improvements, Airfix have taken steps to address the awful 'pebble-dash' surface texture that made my F6, with 'high speed silver' undersides such a pain to paint!

Couldn't agree more about the desirability of one part and two part canopies. I usually close up the canopies and the two part ones often fail to meet neatly. I'm afraid the coin does nothing for me.

Many thanks for the review. I’ve been looking forward to this release so I can build a Rhodesian Air Force late 1960’s Hunter.

Dear Mr Mann, In the antique world there is an expression given to a piece with relevant history, particularly when that story or historical background lends some atmosphere to the piece. The expression is “provenance” and I like the idea of introducing it in model kits like this. I will quite likely get this kit as it fits nicely with my burgeoning collection of post war jet fighters. Nice review! Regards, Z

An excellent and most professional review. Airfix's 1/48th Hawker Hunter is, overall, a lovely offering of what is, arguably, Britain's most beautiful jet aircraft. The kit did, however, include a few minor errors that, whilst easy to correct, induced surprise and irritation for me. These centred around the landing gear. On the real aircraft, the rear cover for the nose wheel was attached to the oleo by two struts. For some reason, Airfix offered one. Similarly, for the main oleos, they were completely omitted. Worst of all, the hydraulic actuators for the main wheel covers in the wing were all conspicuous by their absence. As stated earlier, these are minor errors and can be rectified by any competent modeler possessing the necessary skills. My point is, and maybe I'm being overly pedantic, but this should not have happened for a British model company making a replica of a British aircraft. Academy didn't and they're Korean! Sadly, it appears Airfix have not addressed this matter in this latest issue. With regard to the seat, I believe Airfix offers the option of a seat cushion devoid of details solely for those modellers wishing to enhance this area and utilise the plethora after-market products that are currently available for this kit and the Academy offering. On a final note, don't forget boys and girls, that if you model the Hunter 'gear down' the ventral speed brake must be 'up'. On the real a/c the air brake could only be operated in flight, 'gear up'. Once again, excellent review.

Thanks for the detail - minor errors I agree, but as you say, surprising they weren't corrected in this re-engineered kit given it would be an ideal opportunity.

@@MannsModelMoments Hello. From official photos of built examples of this current issue of the Hunter, Airfix appears to have addressed this minor error for the nose wheel but not those mentioned in my original comment regarding the main gear. Oh, well. My thanks for your response.

Come to think about it, see how long it takes before Airfix does something similar but with the bridge on A33 near Winchester, under which P/O George Rogers from 400 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force flew his P-40 on the 19th of October 1941, he did however lose 3 feet of his wing while doing it.... I think that the bridge was demolished sometime in the 80's.

For those who don't have some sort of special interest in the aircraft; coming from a very interesting era of British designs; the Hunter is one of the most boring and bland aircraft ever.
