Bolet occasionally talked about making what he termed a "negative accent", by which he meant a sudden, tiny diminuendo where a small crescendo might be expected. A delicious example at 14:25. Listen to how the top note is so delicately "placed".

I have never heard the Largo played with such lyricism, such honesty, and such lack of sentimental affectation. A very moving and intelligent performance.

Jorge Bolet. This playing, and his playing of the 'Raindrop' bring Chopin into the inner sanctum. Equalled only, in my opinion, by Lef Pouisinoff, whom I was lucky enough to hear in recital many years ago. Magic!
