Hour Meter Hookup John Deere 2150 ?

Could you hook it up to one of the power wires going to the coil? Or to one of the spark plug wires? I know on small engines you can hook it up to the spark plug and it will work. Im assuming the white goes to a power source and the black is a ground.

It's hard to tell cause all the wires just go into the dash and plug into the gauges so I have no clue whats what.

Do you have a 12v test light? Ground it and touch it to a live source to know its working. Leave the tractor off and just probe some random wires going into the dash. Start the tractor then probe the same ones you just did and see if any of them have power now. Its nothing but a trial and error process.

I guess being a diesel a spark plug won't do you any good lol. I would just try to find something like maybe the tach that only is on when its running. Maybe you could try hooking the meter up to a 12v battery and see if it moves the hour meter at all. The worst you'll do is fry it lol Maybe poke around with a test light and look for wires that are dead when off but have power when it's running.
