I am interested in this concealer but this year I'm trying to watch my purchases. And with CT Pillow talk collection coming and then the DC Latte2 palette which speaks to my coffee-soul, I am done for the first few months of the year (I hope lol). But if sephora has a nice sale and a gift card comes my way and i watch this video and see you approve of the concealer.... ;)

kinkysweat I love the retouching fluid - you can use it top of powder. I bet the photos don’t do it justice. HG is actually dark skin friendly, it just doesn’t look it from photos. Edit: don’t do the CONCEALER justice. The color is buildable for complexion. I have to go lighter than what I think I’ll need with their stuff.

I bought it today. My eye zoomed right in on Topaz on the display. I love it. I NEED peachy concealers and they can be very hard to find. I love the coverage, texture and finish of this one. Layered with TF Sculpting concealer in Taffy and topped with Huda baking powder in Banana Bread. I was very happy.

I loved how Topaz cancelled out under eye darkness but having dry skin, I liked the formula on the Sishedo better. Maybe I'd do a combo between HG corrector and then Sishedo as you did, but will wait to match myself in-store. The difference between online, the swatches and on you were remarkable! I liked their Vanish stick foundation, but I’ve never really been interested in Hourglass products. I like a light, kind of sheer concealer that looks like skin under the eyes. I really love the Sephora Gel Serum concealer. I’m stocked up for about 3 more months on those lol

I’m so glad you uploaded this video today !! I purchased it today but they were out of stock in the light medium neutral. I purchased beech which shows it’s supposed to have yellow undertones but when I tried it , it didn’t seem like it. I always go neutral. I shall see tomorrow morning when I use it to see how it looks. I’m a little concerned now 😂😂. I’m glad you suggested to use your fingers and apply to your hand first. Good tip and thank you !!! Okay, so I just came back from Sephora and I tested it in store. I didn't think to try Topaz as a corrector. I actually tested out three shades: Maple, Umber and Brandy. Brandy is my spot conceal shade. Umber was more of a corrector shade for me and Maple is my highlight shade. I did apply with my fingertips and initially, I didn't like the finish. I didn't set it because I was in store so at first I was unhappy with the finish because it seemed to crease pretty quickly. I had to pat out the creases but it started to look okay after about an hour or so. It's definitely is full coverage. I'm going to try it out again before I fully commit. Your shades are great though!

Alicia! Very much like the CT face palette, I misunderstood the Hourglass Concealer. I didn't realize the color correcting aspects to it and how effective this would be. As a matter of fact, you've demonstrated that the Shiseido products also have color correcting properties, well quelle surprise! I've noticed the NEED for color correcting because of the darkness ugh of my undereyes... Not a biggie as a little salmon easily solves that problem- it's almost too easy. I have such dry skin that the Shiseido will definitely serve me better than the Hourglass, but this video was great to see. Especially key was the idea of using these to be a natural cover for the face before foundation (or for a light/no makeup day...). Your videos are helping me solve the mysteries of makeup I wished I knew when younger (I'm 63). Thanks so much, sorry for the book comment...

I went into Sephora and purchased the shade mocha at first because I thought it would be a decent skin tone match. It was actually just the slightest bit darker than my natural coloring. So I went back 2 days later to exchange and swatched some more and ended up leaving with teak which was super surprising! I usually use the too faced btw in chestnut and the HG is similar in shade but definitely more on the neutral side and a *hair* darker. I’ve got combo skin but this dries down super fast and very matte, a little bit most def goes a long way. Thanks for the review Alicia, I totally agree with your thoughts on this concealer.

I just ran out of my Mac studio liquid NC43 concealer and wanted fo get hourglass, shades are so hard to tell online but then your review came into my life :) We seem to be similar skin tones, I am an NC42 in Mac (NC43 in that concealer just tends to be more corrective and closer match), Estée Lauder honey bronze 4W1, MUFE Y405. Need an exact skin match because I tend to use just concealer under eyes and blemishes, and can get away with very minimal make up for super long work days. I am leaning towards flax and dune based on your review - what do you suggest? Also what is your shade in other brands? Would be really helpful if you could add it to your description for next time as well xx (hope you can reply soon!)

I think it makes sense for concealers to have more varieties or jumps in undertones because often they are doing color correcting double duty. I prefer a concealer that is peachy looking because it covers under eye darkness *and* cancels out redness or dark spots on my fair skin. Many people use a liquid concealer 2 shades lighter to highlight. Some people are using concealer in lieu of foundation(just spot concealing & hitting the T zone) then using a light powder all over their face. Depending on what you use concealer for will greatly influence the formula & undertone of the product that will work best for you (as well as your age, skintone & skintype of course) Took me a while to find a concealer that works. I have both a drugstore & higher end dependable go-to. I've also learned nothing ruins the look of undereye concealer like powder lol. So I stopped "setting" it.

I am glad that you tried this out! When I tried it in Sephora I noticed how it has a drier consistency and so I thought it must be a fuller coverage and better for oily skin type, I am normal to dry so I passed on this concealer. I will have to try the Shishedo when I finish the ones I have right now though, you speak so highly of them I think the consistency and coverage is more natural and more up my alley. Thank you for this review and I think the color choices are pretty accurate for you. It's quite interesting that they choose to go for peachy tones for color correcting since there are other color correcting needs out there but I guess it made sense since concealers usually are used underneath the eyes? Curious to see what their design process is for this product, perhaps a 2 in 1 since the color correcting isn't as prominent as other products in the market where it is usually a straight up peach? 🤔

I was surprised too with how well the peachy tones work on me. I took my skin shade for granted, and always went warm or golden. When in fact I have a little bit of pink in there. And that’s why I lean more toward neutral, which ends up having a little bit of peach.

I'd like to try this, and your cautions about using too much are appreciated. I'm 48 and my undereyes are very dry AND as a bonus I have hereditary purple dark circles that are hard to cover. Plus the skin is thinning as I age. Yay! Full coverage usually makes me look crepey (Shape Tape was a disaster) even if I moisturize before. Perhaps I’ll get a couple of samples at Sephora. Enjoyable to watch as always!

OMG THANK YOUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!! for being smart and beautiful. I have watched every review on the vanish foundation stick and it kills me when everyone talks smack about the amount of product they're getting but it's a stick not a liquid. Makes me so mad. It's also $46 so expensive when all high end foundations are at least $40. $6 difference and it doubles as a concealer. Thank you for catching that point with the concealers and for having a brain. I don't mean to sound insulting to others who reviewed the product but it's not a fair comparison and the swatches omg the swatches you did are amazing! I can't thank you enough seriously. You're a couple shades darker than I but still super helpful to me. I am like a light/ medium olive undertone with a little bit of golden skin. I also love the same brands. So happy I found you. Thank you for this video! I am having such a hard time with the shades! (If anyone who sees this uses Nars Macadamia in the winter, Ginger in summer, let me know what shade you got!) I even used the chart on the Hourglass website-- I'm Ivory in the stick foundation and they list Pearl as a match. This is not even close to Ivory! Pearl is a couple shades darker and almost as orange as an orange. It DOES work to color correct my under eye darkness, but I want something that also matches my skin to go over a corrector and for blemishes, etc. So after some more research, I chose Silk. It looks nice under my eyes, but it's too pink for the rest of my skin.

I am probably going to pick this up eventually...I am still working through what I have and I did not buy all the new ones last year. I still want to get the Armani one. It used to be my favorite years ago but they discontinued the formula I liked. Moved to cle de peau. I have tried many things...and am still working through born this way, Charlotte Tillbury, Chantecaille and some shape tape! I also have Maybelline instant age, glossier, first aid. So I really need to work through these...I am on a selected no buy and concealer is one of those item. I like the vanish foundations, both the stick and the liquid, but I find that I can only use them if a have a lot of time and really prep the skin and apply it very deliberately. So I will get it, just in due time

@@aliciaarcher I like it, but one of my eyes was behaving particularly badly today. I didn't sleep well last night and no concealer on Earth could have fixed my undereye woes today. I'm happy with the shade that I got. I tend to go a little darker and more orange to act as a color corrector. That way when I set my undereye I don't have to worry about looking like a ghost. I picked up Maple. An exact skin tone match might have been Flax. But I don't typically spot conceal on the face. So the shade was great. I'm going to try it with the Huda powder tomorrow. I don't know if the Hourglass powder will be strong enough to keep the concealer from creeping into my lines. If Huda is too much, I'll try Hourglass the next day. Man I love playing in makeup 😁

The Hourglass is waterproof and has micro powders thus the reason it seemed to dry down too much for me under my eyes and then looked crepey. Have ordered the new Dior which is stated to be more skincare friendly and moisterizing. Hopefully that one will do the trick! :)

I think it looks so good on you!! I got a sample of the foundation and I really liked it too. Didn’t buy it though simply because I don’t need it yet. Thank you for such a detailed review of the concealer. It’s so helpful to know I need to go in store to pick a shade. I’m 40 years old so my undereyes are more mature but not dry, just normal, so do you think this would work for me or should I steer clear of it? It’s quite expensive so I’d hate to get it and it not work and I live 2 hours from Sephora so returning it would be problematic and I’d just be stuck with it. Thank you again for your review!!!

It’s gonna be a full coverage concealer kind of day today lol I got off work at 6 this morning and it’s not even 10:30 and I’m awake since my lovely neighbor decided to do some kind of work with very loud saws and other equipment. That’s so great 😒. We quite literally had all 4 seasons in one day on Friday, including it being 70 degrees with a few tornado warnings and less than 12 hours later it was in the 20s and snowing and now it’s back in the 60s and raining. My skin is screaming for mercy at this point lol. Sorry I’m rambling, I talk too much when I’m tired 😂😂

I bought the Ghost face palette & it works for me but I am very fair. The main reason I decided to purchase it was because it had several different types of the face powders plus a bronzer & blush that I could actually use. The Hourglass face powders confused me & I wasn't sure which one I'd like or which did what so I thought the Ghost palette was the most cost effective way to try everything that Hourglass offered. And I was right & very happy with my purchase. But I don't see how anyone medium or deeper could use that palette tbh. The bronzer is very light & so is one of the two blushes. I mainly use it for the finishing powders or combine it with my Smashbox Cali Contour palette to give it more ooomph. I do understand now what people love about Hourglass & Hourglass Veil loose finishing powder is the only powder I will use when I use powder.

I really wanted to pick up this concealer! You KNOW how much I love the foundation, but there just isn't an appropriate color for me in the concealer! I went in store to check it out, just to be sure the formula was going to be something I would love as much as the concealer (you know how sometimes a concealer will be nowhere near as amazing as its namesake foundation!!), but there wasn't even a shade I could "get away with". So disappointed!!! In the winter I am an NC 15 and I only need concealer for brightening as I have no undereye discoloration to correct and the lightest shade was about 1 shade darker than my actual skin tone and WAY too yellow. The lightest shade with the correct undertone was about five times darker than my skin tone, LOL. Ah well, can't win 'em all!!!

I have dry skin plus fine lines and it sounds like this formula is a pass for me! I’ll have to try the Shiseido ones once I’m out of the Power Fabric. Corrector works so well for dark circles! I’ve started buying two shades darker with peach undertone for a corrector shade. Do you tend to prefer the Shiseido gel stick for under eye and the liquid for face concealing?

I like both, but Shiseido actually formulated the gel stick for the under eye, and the liquid for face. So that’s how I’ve been using them.

I think they’re very pigmented, and picking an exact match when it’s wet probably will dry down a little darker. Which is why Sienna works out for me. I probably could use a lighter corrector!

Argh... I saw the hourglass mini concealers this morning so I went looking for this video to get a shade reference. Unfortunately, none of your shades are offered in the mini. I am considering sepia... 🤔 My problem with concealer is that I can never commit to using it. I like a light/medium coverage on my face because I have 80 billion freckles and trying to cover them is pointless. If my blemishes show... 🤷🏽‍♀️ oh well. I do like the ELF hydrating camo concealer under my eyes to color correct and brighten cuz... I am 40 now... but that is the only one I reach for regularly and I keep it away from my freckles. Darn it hourglass! I wanted to give you my money!

I tried this in the store not long ago and didn't like it as I let it dry. It started to look kind of patchy and dry under my eyes. In addition, I started to see my dark circles peeking through. This was a pass for me.

Kinkysweat. Did you use a under eye moisturizer? Under the Hourglass? Yes I definitely want to pick some up. Plus I need some concealer. One for redness, to highlighter and one for Correction. But I don’t have a glue on the shades. Pearl is a highlighter. Then from there I get got. It is very hard to pick from the shades they give you. Can you Help. I need one to help cover skin damage. But also very dry. I would have to make sure I had on a good moisture. Your looked look. And yes I was very surprised at the colors. We have no Hourglass Store in our neck off the world. 😂😂😂💛

I used my regular moisturizer, but yes that step is a must with this concealer. On the hourglass website they have a guide to help you choose the concealer shade based on your foundation match. I would pick one of the designated corrector shades, and use the guide to help figure out your highlight shade.
