Facing the northern shore of the Fateh Sagar lake, the House by the Lake overlooks splendid vistas where mountain, sky, and temple spires meet. Spaces within the five-bedroom construction, mindful of local ecology and climate, are Vaastu compliant.
This home is an interpretation, or “abstraction” of the chhatris and baradaris, elegant pavilions, supported by fluted columns that are a recurring leitmotif of Rajput-Mughal architecture. The front elevation is an imposing colonnaded façade of slender pillars in textured precast white concrete.
Principal Architect Verendra Wakhloo explains the design philosophy of this modernist family home in Udaipur, Rajasthan.

Construction quality in US is typically very poor and cost is high. For the price those in LA are not that great. Indian builds are much better.

Those whining about this not representative of Rajasthani architecture, he wasn't intending on building a haveli. He is focusing on taking the elements of the architecture which are pillars and pavilion in modern sense. And this is a stunning showpiece on a stunning and enviable location.
@wish-ld9te
@wish-ld9te 11 ай бұрын
He should have not mentioned" Rajasthani Architecture" because Rajasthani Architecture has some unique features which this property clearly lacks.... And Pillars and Pavillions are not a unique feature of Rajasthani Architecture because Even South Indian Architecture, Chinese architecture, European architecture and American architecture all have Pavilions and Pillars .... So he missed the uniqueness of Rajasthani Architecture and has included the thing which is very common to Every Architectural style and calling the common thing a Rajasthani Architecture is useless.....

@@Chen-gl9hm This was not very out of place I think. Indian masses want to see symetrical manions and bygone era construction over anything new or modern, but I think this house is bringing a lot of the elements together for a comfortable modern lifestyle without becoming completely detached from roots. A lot of it is also the ablitlity to understand this and not just want a tacky grand building.

Hats off to the owner who purchased this land and build this masterpiece. Though the entrance gives resemblance to fortress kind of walls but then there is the building which I think is very less connected with the Rajasthani architecture. I doesn't mean here that its not nice but just wanted to tell that the designer couldn't understood the Rajasthani architecture very well. P.S. Take it as constructive criticism & intentions are not to offend anyone. #peace_out
@arcisvar4863

Along with the fortress style wall that hold the garage and land. The Rajasthani architectural elements are the colomns and the way they wrap the solid blocks that could have become very cold and unfitting in a very playful way. I think these playful details is the Rajasthani touches in the house. The house is very light with lots of openings but it is still kept in shade and organized to capture views and light without capturing the heat. The pavilions also become another living space for activities. The house is as mentioned humble, but very elegant, modern and liveable. They could have done a replica of a palace or a TV serial mansion for the budget, but I think the focus on the art, the residents everday lifestyle with the altred traditional elements is just so much better. I think architects also get a little too abstract with meaning and aesthetics since its their brain child but this house is very elegantly done, just beautiful.
@projaidev
@projaidev 2 жыл бұрын
The house isn't meant to mimic Rajasthani architecture. As mentioned, it is certain elements from Rajashtani architecture abstracted and designed in a modern way (which are the shaded collonaded spaces in front of the entertainment block and the upper floors with balconies, as well as other elements mentioned all designed according to heat, wind and the lake) The end result is the client's desire of a contemporary international design but through Udaipur's distinct language rather than a completely detached modern design.

Good modern architecture. But It doesn't have anything reflecting Rajasthani architecture( which is very rich in building architecture and stone work ). Except stone wall which is typical of that area. Other than that totally out of place. So not very impressed. The problem of modern Indian Architect they just copy designs from Architecture digest and than talk . Just computer generated designs. Sorry.
