The speed at which plants are reclaiming the new lava flows continues to astound me. Those ferns are as relentless as the lava itself. Thanks for the lovely walk!

what other plant life could grow in those conditions other then ferns i wonder?

So much has changed since I first came across your channel during the 2018 eruption. I tuned in sometimes several times a day to catch the latest just amazed at the changes happening to what I had seen on my first visit to Hawaii and Kilauea only months before.

Wow, it seems impossible to believe that the house and all it’s memories just disappeared. I hope its residents found a new place to live and are happy again. Thank you for showing us.

I don’t know why I thought that the lava flow would be more rolling than this, but in fact it’s like a badlands with extreme changes in elevation. Truly incredible to walk with you through this six years later. Thank you so much for the tour. I also watched your videos two or three times a day back in 2018, wondering if your own house would be engulfed.

Nothing left, I can remember what it all looked like when you showed us what was happening back in the days the lava was taking over,so sad to watch the houses burn away into nothing but memories.

Wow! Those roads look so much different since September of 2018. It didn't take long at all for the greenery to take over! Are the still habitable areas of the neighborhood different than they were before the eruption, or have the people found a new normal there?

The ferns and flowers look so pretty! Visiting Hawaii and taking one of your tours continue to be on my bucket list!

The famous east rift zone, I remember years ago going for a drive in that neighborhood and my friend pointing out the ERZ and seeing homes built right over it.

Aloha Scott. Thanks for this walk across the tephra. I guess this event was when many of your followers tuned in for the first time...just as I did. It was mesmerizing to watch your videos and imagine if it was my propertiy how heartbroken it would be to lose a place on that island where many of us would live if we could, volcano or no volcano! Remember our conversation about "acceptable risk"? Much news about possible massive eq off Japan. That would definately generate a tsunami that would impact my current home 300 ft from the ocean, so acceptable risk is on my mind a lot l;ately.

Seeing this after 6 years is so crazy. I remember watching all your videos then and exploring the streets on Google maps. Kind of missing the early youtube lives with the glow.

All that is so cool Scott. I really appreciate you doing these videos I'm glad I found you on KZbin. I've always wanted to go to Hawaii and you take me to places that I'll never get to see if I don't go with you. I really appreciate you. Man oh man I wish I could be walking around with you right up there

Can you imagine your house being buried under that much tephra? But wow, everything sure is green! Beautiful ferns everywhere.

Fascinating to see the aftermath and what is recovering. What stands out though is as fascinating as the eruption was, people lost their homes, their neighborhood and the forest around it.

Oh, how I love the sound of walking thephra 😍❤️. You taught me what tephra is. You taught me so much about lava.

How did the lava not fill up that canyon. ??? The average peak of her house is anywhere from 21 ft and higher. With that being said when you walked on top of someone's house that was covered in lava, it didn't appear you had climbed that much in elevation from street level

Great video walk around. Amazing 6 years have passed... nature's ferns and plants slowly taking over the area. Makes it look nice. That little canyon is cool. I assume it wasn't there prior to May 2018.

I lived in Leilani Estates for a while, I love it there. It's one of my favorite subdivisions. We're looking for a place to buy and i would be cool going back there. The home insurance in that lava zone is astronomical and you are forced to use a county led insurance. It's not open to competitive insurance.

Arent those old power lines copper? Why doesnt anyone come and collect them? If only to 'clean' up? The whole place would look even more beautiful from imo.

It is a wonder, the power of nature is what we cannot control. I just marvel at the history of how earth is made and still going on. We have to adapt to the environment and hoping for the best. Still I appreciate the moment that I can reside in this earth until i die
