Hi everyone! I thought it would be fun to continue our Architectural Skills Series using the model from the SketchUp Forums' "Finish this house contest!" Follow the link in the description to download the house model and create your own! We'll start with general layout, and then move into creating plans from Layout in this series! :)

Thanks Justin. As a total novice this is way too complicated, do you have a more simple set of tutorials to design a house. Also, can I design a house without buying expensive extensions for sketchup? I'm not a professional at all and just want to sketchup a basic 2 story house for my own fun. Thanks.

To make it not too complicated you can add the door and windows just as you did. But I normally work from inside out. I have a floorplan which tells me where is the kitchen, living etc and from there you can place windows and doors. I concur at the start grouping and tagging is important to keep all simple and clear. Beside Flextools, which is a bit expensive, there are free tools which do a decent job making doors and windows.

I love SketchUp and started using Plusspec for SketchUp, this is so much easier and faster. You will have your complete house finished in detail in a few hours😀

at time stamp 4:57 how did you click so fast to make that floor or is it that the video was fast-forwarded through edit? Although you are using a good mic, there is a fair amount of noise that I can hear listening with a headset. Your videos are great and helpful. I want to take your course.

I have downloaded this to follow along. I am at the the part where you use the push/pull tool for the windows. Mine is not allowing me to move what I have measured out on the first wall. So then I just tried making a square on the wall next to that to push/pull. It kind of worked and now glitches out by making a similar square overlapping it... I'm not sure what I have done wrong. Could it be something with the grouping?

I have watched many of your videos. Thanks for providing them, they are very helpful. One thing I do not understand is the purpose of reversing faces. If it is just to change the color, why not use the Paint tool?

This wasn't really designed to be an absolute beginner tutorial - you might want to start with something like this - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3bGqqisht6Jo5I
