House of Representatives opens for 119th Congress

Acting Clerk Kevin McCumber gavels in the House of Representatives for the First Session of the 119th Congress to conduct a live quorum call and conduct a roll call vote for Speaker.
Incumbent Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) won in a single round with 218 votes after a pair of Republicans from South Carolina and Texas changed their votes.
Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) handed Johnson the gavel for his acceptance speech, oath and swearing-in of Members-elect. The House then considered and adopted a rules package governing House operations for the next two years.
