I never went too far from the first couple of levels (i was only 6 years old), and i'm impressed by this final boss theme. It's sounds like something you would hear in a RPG like Final Fantasy. I love it.

I understand the magician theme is my favorite boss song in the series because like you said it's so epic also I got done checking and yeah the earlier versions do play slightly faster when compared to the later versions.

The reason this one is different to the other video is because the audio that was recorded in that video was recorded using a much earlier build of the model 2 emulator (before 0.6) which had more preliminary emulation of the SEGA FM sound core used in HOTD this one uses the latest version of the model 2 emulator 1.0 (probably last version) which has more improved emulation of FM sound core.

Again the major difference your hearing is because of the improved emulation of the FM sound core HOTD used, in pre 0.6 versions of the model 2 emulator the sound was missing many of the FM insturmentals in the song while here they are more present, on the arcade machine this song actually does sound similar to this quality wise (the emulation still isn't 100% correct but it's pretty close, if it sounded like stage 2 in terms of instrumentals then it would be perfect)

The Magician on HotD 1, I'll admit, was kind of a piece of cake with sprinkles, once you memorize his weakpoints. Hangedman and Hermit were harder (the stage 2 and 3 bosses).

Hermit can’t even be considered a real boss fight. All you have to do is spam straight in his face and he can’t even get near you. I was about 30 feet away from him when he died.

Jesus Christ no. The Magician is so fast that even after you memorize his weakpoints, you still barely have any time to hit them. Plus, his ultimate fireball spam is nearly impossible to stop.

yeah the earlier versions of the model 2 emulator had no changes to the FM sound emulation and yes the earlier versions do seem to sound like they're going faster but then again the emulation back then was still pretty basic compared to what it is now so that may be the reason another possibility could be that since the music was missing a good part of the instrumentals things the basic sounds sounded much faster when compared to the later versions I'll compare them and see what I find.
