I was blown away by the details in the coronation. It felt like watching Nicholas II being crowned in an Orthodox ceremony with all the hollow pomp & circumstance of a rotting system. It's what I'd always envisioned from a GoT coronation. Tom Glynn-Carney was terrific in bringing out Aegon's fear, hesitation, pride & euphoria all at once. I'm glad they kept the much despised Criston putting the Conqueror's crown on Aegon II's head. The Kingmaker is born! What the show's doing really well is the details, down to splitting the treasury or locking up servants. Usually the passionate debates, the treachery, the heartbreak are glossed over & we only see the regime change as "fait accompli". This bring to life the mechanism that historically goes behind a coup, which I assume is as emotionally taxing for the people seizing power. That's why I like agonized & conflicted Alicent more than her steadfast source counterpart. It feels more flesh & blood. She vacillates but her messianic fear for her children fates her to make a cursed gamble. *Tfw u only support our Green Lives Matter King for extermination of Strong Boys cause ur pro Valeryian blood supremacy jk.*

Yea really great performance by Tom as Aegon. The only thing I would have done differently is that the Rhaenys appearance was stupid. And in the book Criston had a great powerful dialogue before crowning Aegon.

I didn't expect them to include Criston at all...I was very pleasantly surprised they kept the part of him putting the Conqueor's crown on his head (it's such a great dick move)....so I certainly wasn't expecting the speech. Probably wouldn't have permitted by time constraints either. Didn't take away from the scene. I'm just glad they included the kingmaker moment. It made the coronation that much better when he says "Aegon is the true king" andviewers at home going "boooo" lol. The Rhaenys thing when I first saw it I hated it. I still hate it and would not have done it if it was up to me. But after a week of watching reactors seething thru the whole episode already raging about wanting compeuppance, I get why they thought they needed a gratutious "happy ending".

I think a lot of people didn’t notice that a big chunk of the people cheering in the audience for the coronation were also cheering at that perverse kids fight club. I even looked up a bunch of the extras on IMDB and they’re credited in both scenes. The Goldcloaks just filled the DragonPit with random scum from FleaBottom. So, when that dragon came roaring through the floor very little of value was lost.

Rhaenys obviously decided to side with Rhaenyra. Does she intend to fly to her and warn her of what happened? The way I see it is the following: since she now recognizes Rhaenyra as Queen, she didn't allow herself to end the lives of 5 or 6 of Rhaenyra's enemies just like that. She doesn't know what Rhaenyra would do with them. They're part of family after all. Could Rhaenyra want to give them all a chance to bend the knee? So many possibilities. Rhaenys is smart.

Rhaenys did not want to be a Kinslayer; that's a huge taboo in Westeros, when there had been no war declared. Also, there was the High Septon of the Faith and a priest or two on the dais, as well as Helaena and Alicent, Westerosi culture frowns on the killing of unarmed women. If Rhaenys had barbecued the High Septon, the Faith of the Seven would have turned against not only Rhaenyra (by association) and her family and supporters, but also House Velaryon and crowned either Aegon's very young son Jaehaerys or his younger brother Daeron (who we will see next season, he's been fostered in Oldtown with the Hightowers), and there would be war and chaos.

Rhaenys is a fantastic character, my favorite after Daemon. I absolutely agree with you on Olivia Cooke being the best actress on the show at this moment. She is a close second after Paddy Considine who played Viserys. Rhaenys did not burn them because she is not cruel and/or a monster. As a mother, she understands Alicent. So she choose to make a power move and it was like "I could have burned you all. Remember that." If she would have burned them there, House of The Dragon would have only 1 season 😂 As for what Rhaenys will do next and where she's going, you will see that in the next episode. Regarding Alicent and Larys, yes Larys has a foot fetish obviously. Alicent was not comfortable doing that, but that is how she pays Larys for his services to her. If you remember, in episode 6 when they talked before Larys decided to kill his father and brother, Alicent removed her shoes when she greeted Larys. We didn't think twice about that, but now we know what she was beginning to do there. This episode was sooo good, that I didn't even realize that Daemon and Rhaenyra did not show up in it, until the very end. When an episode is this good without Viserys or Daemon or Rhaenyra in it, you know the show is doing amazing now.

Agree with other commenters: Rhaenys couldn't kill her family members, especially when she saw Alicent stand between the dragon and Aegon. She identifies with her as a mother, couldn't cause another mother the pain she's felt even if Alicent dies too. Also at this point no blood has been shed; everyone hopes a peaceful solution can be found. Rhaenys wasn't ready to become a kinslayer. But this is definitely a warning, they know she will go straight to Rhaenyra & now war is inevitable

Alicent was never a bad person tbh! Lemme explain, Most of audience was angry on her because she had to keep secret that her father comanded her spend time with the king.. obviously Alicent kept that a secret cause she knew her friend was going through a lot that time.. Her father getting married this very thing was disturbing her(not particularly with whom mattered to her!) but everyone knew he would get married. Because that's how things used to be. And he wouldn’t marry some same aged lady as him, he would marry a teenager or even younger girl right? From a high family! Otto was King's close, ambitious and had a daughter of course he tried to get her daughter married to THE KING?! And girl's didn’t have their own voice in that time.. You know that right? Her father told her to go, she didn’t wanna but she went! So did Laena! Right? But the king chose whom he chose!!!? Declared in front of all people who will he marry and it was done! Rhaenyra always despised the idea of her father getting married again, felt like him betraying her late mother but finally when she found peace she knew her father chose Alicent and thus she projected all her previous anger, feeling of betrayal on her! This system is calledd Agnatic primogeniture, which means that the oldest male child of the current monarch inherits.But if the heir dies it passes to his oldest male child. Rhaenys had two reasons why she didn't kill them all on spot. For one, she sent them a message that she's not going to do to them what they did to others, that there's a more traditional and "non-criminal" way of fighting for that power. So she showed them mercy, for now. But most of all, Rhaenys was in no position to kill them all. That is something that Rhaenyra needs to do and not Rhaenys as she has no claim to the throne (at least not anymore) and it would look extremely bad for Rhaenyra as well if Rhaenys did the job so easily. Rhaenyra needs to get her throne back and Rhaenys knows it. It's a pride thing but necessary at the same time if Rhaenyra wants support. Remember that the greens have already stated the "dying wish" of the King. Her killing them on spot would not help Rhaenyra's claim that it was all a lie, on the contrary. She needs to expose them and then defeat them in battle. It's politics.

According to the same laws to wich Rhaenys was the rightful heir, Aegon was the rightful heir too. But in Rhaenys's case there was at least a great council called for the lords to validate this decision.

crispin has some real anger issues! I also love how the actor who plays Aemond pulls us all in to secretly love him when we know he`s a baddie. The next episode where he goes up against Lucerys will be an amazin heart stopping episode and im so not ready for it! the "strong" boys are so much better than the green kids

I've watched a bunch of reactions and it's weird to me that almost everyone thinks Otto saying Alicent looks like her mother is creepy. Why is it creepy for a parent to say their child looks like their deceased spouse? He spoke early on about how much he loved his wife and misses her. Clearly he's proud that Alicent is out-playing him, and in that moment of being proud of his kid, he was reminded of her mother. What's weird about that?

For me, normally, I would not have found that creepy but, because earlier in the series, when Otto told her to wear one of her mother's dresses when he was asking her to go in and basically seduce the king, any reference between Alicent & her mother from Otto now just comes off a legitimately creepy.

Hi. I think you might be misunderstanding Alicent's standpoint. It's not about the prophecy. She just believes Viserys wanted their son to be king. Everything else was just rumblings as far as she cares to know (confirmation bias). Only Rhaenyra knows about the prophecy. If those two had a conversation it can be all cleared up. Only Alicent was present with the king when he uttered his last words. If Rhaenyra can repeat his words back to her, (song of ice and fire.. prince that was promised etc)not just her cherry picked words Alicent must realize Rhaenyra speaks the truth.

What Misaria said that they have no power but one that people allow them is foolishness. They wouldn't even had Aegon if he didn't sneak away from the keep and they could replace him easily because of Aemond. And Aemond doesn't want steal birth right of his brother but if Aegon died then Aemond would be king. Also in that world no one is more despised than kinslayer and those who kill their kin are cursed peoples

Let’s be honest. While the Rhaenys dragon scene looked beautiful/ awesome, regretfully it was senseless. It was there just for show and nothing else. In the books she doesn’t break into the hall killing innocent people and doing a stare down. SMH. I got ptsd from GoT S8 because of that scene. Rest of the episode was good.

I think Rhaehnys has been perfectly understandable when you quit searching for personal motives. She wanted to be queen but stepped aside when another was chosen. She wanted to pass driftmark to her granddaughters but aceded to her husband's wishes. She no doubt wanted revenge for what she believes Rhaenyra and Daemon did to her child, but makes the alliance and marriage best for her family. She will not agree to betray Rhaenyra even if endangers her personally, and she won't murder the new king and his family despite it being the easier path. I think her motivations are only hard to grasp because we are so used to following all the scheming of everyone else. She is the Queen Who Should Have Been.

Básicamente la escena de Rhaenys la inventaron porque en los libros ni siquiera esta en King's landing, lo hicieron para darle un final de capitulo más "espectacular". La razón "oficial" de por qué no quemó a todos es porque le tuvo compasión a Alicent de no matar a sus hijos y a ella, además de que Rhaenys no es una mata sangre y sigue siendo su familia, además no va con la personalidad de ella, no es una sádica que no le importa la vida de los demás, aunque esto se contradice al matar a cientos de personas del pueblo llano al salir con su dragona del suelo. A pesar de que me gustó verla en un momento baddass, creo que esta escena final estuvo demás, no fue necesario ya que no tuvo mucho sentido y coherencia narrativa, solo para darle la respuesta a Alicent de lo que le había ofrecido anteriormente. Ojalá no sigan haciendo estas cosas sin sentido los showrunners porque en los libros tienen muchas escenas disponibles para hacer cosas espectaculares con los dragones, no hay necesidad de agregar cosas de la nada sin sentido, solo para que sea efectista.

In my opinion it's because she didn't want to be a kinslayer and because you should first settle things diplomatically and not directly kill your relatives even if they have committed treason. She also made it clear which side she was on and warned what could have happened if she hadn't been so remorseful

Lo de Alicent y Haelaena, Aemond está equivocado, el no es el siguiente en la Línea Sucesoria, es su sobrino, el hijo de Aegon y Haelaena, cuyo nombre no recuerdo en este momento 😅. Haelaena Sería la Regente cómo Reina Viuda en nombre de su hijo. Rhaenys no se puede aliar a los Hightower en contra de su casa, Targaryen y la de su Esposo, Velaryon. Rhaenys doesn't kill Alicent and her children because you have to remember that at the end of the day they are still kin. And even if that were not the case, Rhaenys is also an honorable noblewoman who would rather sort out this entire issue on the battlefield instead of resorting to outright murder.

I dont get it either. They obviously would need those character alive to make the show work. But to me her not burning them makes no sense what so ever. It seems like they did it because it looks cool, rather than caring whether it made sense. The explanation i can come up with as to why they did that in the show. Because for a character it doesn't make sense. She knows she will be at war with those people, they had just locked her in a room and threatened her. The greens are an active threat to her family and house. She knows this. Her burning them ends the debste and war in one action that saves many lives in the long run. So why didn't she? No reasonable explanation

Daemon used Rhaenyra when she was young, took her to a brothal and suddenly took of her hat revealing her hair and identity to everyone so that her character gets questioned and Viserys is forced to wed her to Daemon so he can rule! Remember?! And everyone's after Otto only, saying how he poisoned the king! King was so ready to cancel Rhaenyra's claim to the throne after that rumour but Alicent convinced him that she didn't lose her virginity and should nit lose her claim, completely dismissing her own father! Later Rhaenyra made Otto kicked out of king's landing (while Daemon was still innocent in her and audience's eyes lol) and later Alicent Hightower was gifted with the realization that how her best friend was always completely self interested and how she is now completely alone here, without her father(no matter how vicious he is), without friend and without the love of the man she married and has children with. Huh. I'm very very unbiased and neutral person but I've a special kind of sympathy and understanding for Alicent.. And Aemond! All these children neglected by their own dad.. Viserys was not a good king in any way! He made these awkward compromises sometimes that made everyone unhappy If we're watching this show we have to understand that no one, I repeat NO ONE IN THIS SHOW IS "GOOD" OR "BAD"! EVERY CHARACTER IS GRAY. NO BLACK & WHITE.. For me, I'm team WOMEN👑💚🖤

Rhaenys como dijiste sólo quiso mostrar su poder, y lo que podía hacer pero no lo hace. Los Higthtowers hablando de la gloria Targaryen, haciendo una gran evento, mostrando a Aegon con la corona de Aegon el conquistador y su espada para demostrar poder, y legitimar su decisión de ponerlo como rey, y Rhaenys les demostro que es un verdadero Targaryen. Y no dice dracarys, porque ella entiende que una guerra comienza y no va a ser ella quien aprete el primer botón, o diga el primer "dracarys", sabe que eso le corresponde a Rhaenyra,y además ve a Alicent que es una madre como ella protegiendo a su hijo, así que de madre a madre no la mata. Obvio que sí los hubiera matado se acababa el problema y la serie 😁Así que no lo hace
