Aemond would not be next in line after Aegon, since Aegon has 2 children with Helaena. He'd either have to wait for them to die or kill them/have them killed. Kinslaying is the worst taboo and I don't think Rhaenys is the kind of character who at this point would stoop that low. Why wouldn't she use the opportunity to eliminate usurpers to the throne? I understand wanting to give fan service, but at least have Vhagar, Dreamfyre and Sunfyre flying overhead or something and she knows that she won't make it out alive. Or something, anything. This "she doesn't want to do it to another mother" (from Ryan Condal) makes no sense. She dooms thousands of mothers and their children to death and suffering with her inaction. This shouldn't have been her choice to make. This scene shouldn't have gone down like this if they desperately just wanted Rharnys to be at the coronation and have her moment. Either have her be up against the other dragons and she barely escapes. Or she makes her way out silently somehow. Or however. Rhaenys hasn't read Fire & Blood to know the horrors to come. So her pre-emptively nuking half her own family would've been OP. Having said that, the Rhaenys bit was to give audience a 'send home happy' moment which wasn't necessary. The coronation was fantastic in itself. But gawd forbid the 'bad guys' are on top in one episode. Those who thought lowborns of KL have any obligation to support Rhaenyra you're in for big disappointments. Aegon claims his birthright from popular King Jaehaerys' Great Council stating king's firstborn male son is next king. Viserys himself won it that way over Rhaenys. Best part of this was the politics, less dragons the better. Despairing mom version of alicent does highlight her humanity more than the colder iteration of the actual green council. A well needed change imo, they've constantly shown subtleties in her character which the audience wilfully ignores since we're watching this as a team sport and gotta cheer team lovable manipulative dad. Show alicent has been better imo. Her being more humanized shouldn't be an issue unless one wants the show to remain grotesquely tilted towards Black (like not killing Laenor).

The ending felt pretty contrived. I thought this was the worst episode so far. I thought the rest of the episode was pretty good with some issues here and there. I hated the Rhaenys being all smug after massacring hundreds of innocents. I guess they could use this scene for a later major plot point with the small folk and the dragonpits. But it felt like the showrunners wanted a spectacle without it making much sense. What would have been better is that after the coronation, they all hear a rumbling and then they all go outside just to see Rhaenys escaped on dragonback. It would have been less spectacular, but it would have made more sense. In the book Aegon goes on Sunfyre and flies over King's Landing. So, instead they could have done this. Rhaenys comes out on dragonback and Aegon sees her and attacks her and she barely escapes. Hell, even have Aemond on Vhagar as well. Would have been a better scene for Rhaenys as a character. Also the dragon came from underground breaking the floor. How is Rhaenys not getting crushed to death there when she is on dragonback? There is little logic there. I can understand Rhaenys not killing the royal family. The war hadn't started and kinslaying is a horrible crime in Westeros. No lord would support Rhaenys and her actions. The war also does not start here. There is more to happen. In fact, the two factions in the book was hesitant to go to war in the beginning. Then Aemond does something horrible and Daemon does something even worse in retaliation. And that is when the war starts. Spoiler Alert. Yes it involves kinslaying.

He went from nothing to one of the most influential people in the kingdom. I would say he achieved a *lot* apart from simply satisfying his fetish. And yes, this was the only one actually bad scene in the show so far. Season 8 level bad. Putting the spectacle above logic, story and characterization. Hopefully it's just a small aberration. Rhaenys' massacre made no sense whatsoever. Her refusal to not kill the whole family *is* perfectly logical. It utterly conforms to her character and everything shown about her up to this point. But her slaughtering *hundreds* of people at the very least **needlessly** does not. It's the Dragonpit. It has exits to the outside (precisely to fly dragons out of), it has exits inside (that is what the whole dome is for). If she wanted to escape, nothing could have been simpler. If she really wanted to confront the Greens and make a show for it, she could have simply entered the arena on Meleys and achieved the same result. She absolutely had *no reason* to break the bloody floor and massacre many hundreds of innocent people. People whose relatives, friends and acquaintances in the city will hardly love the Blacks after this.

I'm glad they kept much despised Criston putting the Conqueror's crown on Aegon II's head. The Kingmaker is born! What the show's doing well is the details, down to locking up servants. Usually the passionate debates, the sense of treachery, the heartbreak are glossed over & we only see the regime change as a "fait accompli". This brings to life the mechanism that historically goes behind a coup, which I assume is as emotionally taxing for the people seizing power. That's why I like agonized & conflicted Alicent more than her steadfast source counterpart. It's more flesh & blood. She vacillates but her messianic fear for her children fates her to make a cursed gamble. *Jokes aside, I only support my Green Lives Matter King for the extermination of Strong Boys cause I'm pro Valeryian blood supremacy.*

Bro, Cristin Cole needs to check his White Cloak Privilege. This man was chosen for the kingsguard because he’s had real combat experience. But this man’s kills have consisted of a concerned lover, an elderly man and a pig… and the boar only lost because Criston pulled sneak attack while he wasn’t looking. A deer literally walked up to them to say good morning and Criston was READY to shank it. Bro, this man’s a menace somebody stop him. (Because this the internet I have to clarify that this a joke. What a great episode! We are witnessing TV greatness. Rhaenys could have ended the war before it even began right there. One dracarys and Meleys would have laid fire upon them. But one thing a lot of people take serious is that “NO ONE IS MORE CURSED THAN A KINSLAYER!” (*yeah I'm looking at you Aemond my boi) These are her kin. And Rhaneys hasn't fall so deep to commit such an act.. No words. Just a look from Rhaenys to the greens says a lot - 'Declaration of war' It was mercy that saved Alicent and Aegon. It will be mercy that will be the downfall of Rhaenys and Meleys later on but not without a badass fight. Olivia Cooke is magnificent as Alicent.. she did an amazing job portraying her. Hate the character respect the actor/actress. Loved how Ser Harrold was standing up for Rhaenyra. Man was at her side since day1. Was even ready to fight Ser Criston knowing it would mean his death. What a honourable and loyal knight. I feel soo sad for both of the Cargyll twins. Arryk fight for what he believed is right and the same goes for Erryk. Their showdown on dragonstone will be emotional that's sure sure. They seemed truly like brothers unlike the hound and the mountain.. Poor Aegon doesn't want to be king. wanted just a life away from this mess. But on the other hand when Aegon saw the crowd cheering and chanting his name that's when the coin took a 360° turn. The Targaryen madness kicked in within his hunger for power and glory... His grandfather manipulated everything since Day1! damn you Otto! Larys strong is getting more creepier each episode.. I literally closed my eyes during it. the final is gonna me instense. Aemond x Vhagar / Lucerys x Arrax above Storms Ends! Aemond will be unleashed. This whole scenery will left many traumatized. Nonetheless.... The Dance of Dragons has begun 🐉🔥

I think this episode and episode 10 will set into motion the rest of the series, since the author said it'd take 4 seasons with 10 episodes to complete the entire sequence of events. In my opinion, it was needed. Plus if Rhaenys told Meleys 'Dracarys' there'd literally be no episode 10 and don't forget all of this set into motion GOT. And why wouldn't Rhaenys want to warn Rhaenyra? She's supposed to be heir anyway, Alicent and Otto heard what they wanted to hear. But also, Rhaenys grandchildren are at Dragon Stone, so she's warning them too cause Aegon is now gonna try to kill them.
@Al-ji4gd2 жыл бұрын
The characterisation of Aegon is so hilariously bad. We introduce Rhaenyra's main challenger for the throne in the form of her half-brother, who we probably should empathise with to some extent because the pressure of ruling has been hoisted upon him by his family and we're obviously going to follow his story for a while...... and what do they do? They make him an irredeemable rapist right off the bat, killing any chance people had of being sympathetic towards him, let alone rooting for him. What's more, just in case you didn't get the picture that he sucks, they made him father a bunch of bastards and watch children fight to death in the fighting pits. To make matters worse, Rhaenys, who is supposed to be this reasonable, stoic woman people are supposed to love, kills a bunch of innocent smallfolk who were forced to attend the coronation of Aegon, making all of his crimes look like nothing. To me, sexually assaulting a serving maid, fathering some bastards and watching kids fight is nothing compared to killing hundreds of innocents, so the writers are not even consistent with that. NONE of this was in the book, by the way. There's an interview in the Hollywood Reporter with the writer and the director of this episode, and reading their reasons for these scenes being the way they are is astonishing. It's so bad.
@BOLDcast2 жыл бұрын
yeah it really does some weird stuff to the moral complications that are supposed to be present in the story. Not that I have a problem with Rhaenys not being morally perfect, but what gets me is that it feels like the writers are intending for a different audience reaction than what happened. Like it feels like they didn't intend for people to be taken aback by her killing dozens if not hundreds of people. Its just sort of confusing, and it feels like the type of thing we would see in GOT's later seasons. Just kind of a weird moment for moments sake
@Al-ji4gd2 жыл бұрын
@@BOLDcast I totally agree. It's a massive oversight. It felt like they were going for a girlboss moment but 'kinda forgot' that it involves killing hundreds of smallfolk. In the article I mentioned, the writer said ''This is Game of Thrones, the people don't matter'' and ''Rhaenys didn't kill the greens right there because it isn't her war''. Both statements are, clearly, absurd. Also, in one of the BTS videos for the episode, she says: ''We were in the writers' room and thought 'wouldn't it be cool if Rhaenys just burst out of the floor on her dragon'' LOL that's literally how much thought went into it. I've liked the show a lot so far. It has been mostly good with a few blunders here and there, but nothing really ruining the show for me. Episode 9 was kind of a messy one, in my opinion.
@atypical12422 жыл бұрын
Aegon fathering bastards is fine and the fighting pit were fine character choices (he’s definitely a bit of deviant in the books) but the rape was a bad story choice. The intentionally showed Rhaenys killing all the small folk and not her family on purpose. It was to show how aloof even she is about her position. People took it as a ‘girl boss’ moment because they’ve been making characters fit more into classic protagonist or antagonist boxes (still some moral ambiguity, but there is a reason why there is so much blind Rhaenyra love/Alicent hate). I agree it does undermine the adaptation somewhat. The BTS week of explanations were purposefully weak, it was a big troll.
@Al-ji4gd2 жыл бұрын

I think Rheanys bursting through the floor was probably the worst moment of the show. It feels a bit contrived. More for spectacle, and girl boss moment than it actually adding to the story. I would have preferred it if she just left more quietly. Her murdering innocents feels weird to me. I do think her not going full on kinslayer makes sense, but why harm civilians if you are just going to make a statement? I didn't think she was that uncaring towards the common people. Doesn't ruin the show for me, or even the episode. But man I wish they did this differently. At least without her harming civilians, or showing the viewers that exiting through the roof was the only way out or something. I am having a hard time justifying this. Other than that, still a great episode. One of the most enjoyable to me.

I didn't like that they did that everything was misunderstood in the book, Viserys never said that his son should sit on the throne when viserys died alicent i arrange everything for his son to be king and send men to kill rhaenyra in the book alicent he envious and ambitious she just thinks of her differently in the series they keep putting her as a poor thing and a son who doesn't know anything and who does bad things are the others even her father and that's all wrong in the book who is villain and alicent already in the series keeps putting him as a poor thing for me a big mistake in this series and the personalities of what she did with Alicent, Rhaenyra and daemon like that and it is not obliged to be like the book more at least similar to the book in the series there are people who like Alicent I'm like what do you like Alicent i'm sure if people had seen the book before the series they wouldn't be liking this snake Alicent she is a hypocrite remember in the fourth episode when she tells Rhaenyra that the Targaryens have strange customs and now she married her son with her own sister like her and a hypocrite and she She is a terrible mother, even the actress herself says that Alicent is a horrible mother and just to see how he treats his children, look at the scene with Helena and Alicent, when Alicent goes to touch Helena, Helena takes her hand away Alicent just shows that Helena doesn't like her own mother and Olivia who plays Alicent I say that Rhaenyra is a great mother that she gives love to her children unlike Alicent,Only person who deserves sits on the throne and Rhaenyra because she sits on the throne alicent , Aegon or Aemond and only destruction Viserys died with leprosy disease plus Alicent and Otto they were giving too much Poppy milk is a medicine that does good it makes you not feel pain but when you give too much poppy milk it will start to hurt So much so that daemon sniffed the glass because he knows the greens are killing his brother they are helping the king die. I didn't like what they did that the reason for the war was all misunderstood and putting that prophecy thing in the book they don't have that, I didn't like what they did with Alicent it's that thing in the Episode 8 at the end in the scene with viserys and alicent and saying that all this is happening because it's a misunderstanding anyone who read the book knows that it wasn't like that I didn't like it at all, I hope to see the real Alicent from the book in the book he is a horrible person but she is very powerful and is not afraid of anything I really hope to see this Alicent in the second season at least Similar to a book because this alicent from the series My God I think Aegon won't listen to his mother, it's also because she only mistreats him (even though he deserves it because he's shit) but look at the scene between the two when he asks if she loves him there She replies that he's an imbecile even the actress who plays Alicent already said that Alicent is a terrible mother and it was the actress herself who said, I don't think Aegon will listen to her but I know what will happen because I read the book fire and blood but don't worry that I I'm not going to give any spoilers, this woman is shit, she even tried to manipulate Rhaenys in the two scene, you can see that in their conversation, I hope the writers show Alicent for real in the second season a strong woman who doesn't let herself be manipulated and me I want to see Alicent in the book, Alicent in the book, she is a strong person and no one manipulates her, unlike the series that keeps putting it like (but she does these things and because of her father) In the book, Alicent is rotten, it's very different from the series that Alicent is weak because she doesn't speak her opinion and only listens to others and she is also very silly, You said that you thought it was cool Alicent's attention that you didn't want them to kill rhaenyra I'm sorry but there's no way it doesn't happen Alicent is being very silly to believe that because what she's already doing is betrayal is betrayal and death so even if she didn't do "I don't want to kill Rhaenyra", but Rhaenyra has every right to kill her because she is a betrayal and Alicent really thinks that Rhaenyra will accept her brother sitting on the throne if it's her right, for God's sake, she's a Targaryen, the heir to the throne, she'll never accept it's going to be war, and she won't likes to know that her brother, the usurper who stole her throne, is that her father died is that no one said anything about her father's death because Alicent said that no one could talk about viserys's death they hid viserys's death from Everybody, This Everything Is A BETRAYAL Viserys would never place one of his sons he always said the only person he wanted to sit on the throne is Rhaenyra the only daughter of the woman he truly loves the only one, in episode 8 rhaenyra was talking to her father about the prophecy but viserys didn't even answer rhaenyra because he had taken poppy milk after the end of the episode in the scene From Alicent is viserys at that moment Alicent gave him poppy milk again then viserys started talking to Alicent thinking it was Rhaenyra because hours ago rhaenyra went to the his room then he thought it was Rhaenyra he started talking he was talking about Aegon's PROPHECY more like Alicent thought viserys was talking about her son Aegon but viserys wasn't talking about him he was talking about the prophecy ( this is mostly talked about in the Game of Thrones series) but since he was unconscious at the time, he thought it was Rhaenyra he was talking to, Viserys would never put a rapist on the throne, and those people at the beginning of the episode in the meeting they said come on start with our plan now And because they were already planning they were just waiting for the viserys to die, they are all traitors, it doesn't matter because he was already planning behind the king they were already betraying the viserys they were just waiting for this old man to die they just they were waiting for this to happen and now it happened they are just going to continue with their plan And no one will question why they want a man and not a woman and if they question they will die like we saw in the episode, I wish it had shown more more unfortunately it didn't show much more in the book shows The scene of Rhaenys with her dragon at the end of episode 9 does not exist in the book, as well as the scene with viserys is Alicent at the end of episode 8 he talking about the prophecy is Alicent getting it all wrong

Here's a reason that Rhaenys didn't burn them all: Not a single person on that Stage ruled any house of Power. Otto has an older Brother who rules Oldtown. Larys house is weak now that his more publicly important family is dead. Otto's brother along with all their allies would immediately declare war. I don't even think Tylund Lannister was there but if he was Jason is the head Lannister & he certainly wasn't there. Jason is lord paramount of the Westerlands & could summon the entire region against those that roasted his brother. If Otto Hightower hand of the king & brother to the ruler of Oldtown was straight up murdered without war being declared by a kin slayer that supports Rhaenyra the Tyrell's would very likely join the war against the Blacks which means the whole Reach would declare for the Greens. The Starks HATE Oathbreakers, King Slayers & Kin Slayers. No book spoilers but I will say my point here is proven in the books. Starks would NEVER support the Blacks if they did something like that. To avoid spoiling anything I'll stop here. But the point is many of those who end of supporting the Blacks would turn on them or remain neutral if they did this. And many of those who were neutral would likely join the Greens. Rhaenys is clearly not suicidal & knows that doing that would ruin their chances & Rhaenyra literally would need to kill her to regain favor from lost allies. Since Rhaenys doesn't wish to die she wasn't going to kill them Rhaenys killing everyone on that stage would NOT prevent the war. All the actual power house players weren't there & would stand against such an act. That aside, she also isn't a kin slayer herself. That's very bad & dishonorable in this world. Further she doesn't want to kill a mother & her children. Haleana is innocent after all. (Yes she killed peasant innocent people but she ended to break out & in her mind they were shouting support for the enemy. Not how I'd of liked her to do it but it is what it is) The main reason she didn't kill them is that it would only destroy their chances at victory
@lucymorudu58602 жыл бұрын
The question is why did she kill all those people because she already knew she wasn't gonna kill the greens? what she did there is no advantage for the blacks at all. when Rhaenyra becomes queen she will be ruling the very same people that got injured or killed and you think they'll be fine with her being on Rhaenys side.
@emikomina2 жыл бұрын
that dumb fan service scene was unnecessary. if the starks really hated oathbreakers then rhaenys killing team green would be doing them a favor since crowning aegon is breaking the oath that rhaenyra should be queen, the starks themselves swore that oath. plus the starks themselves are kinslayers since they killed off the greystarks branch when they sided with the boltons. so who tf cares about the starks at this point. PLUS IT WOULD HAVE PREVENTED WAR. who in their right mind would support aegon's and helaena's young child when they have no dragons in their faction left since all the dragon riders for team green would have been dead. you literally make no sense and dumb just like how the writer's made rhaenys illogical just for the sake of fan service.

@@emikomina Okay mate, coming off pretty aggressive right now. Chill out. Anyway, who cares about the Starks? They literally own the biggest kingdom land wise & are extremely formidable allies to have. They're a key player in the war during the books won't say more than that. But also, No one would be advocating for Aegon's baby kids. Aegon has another younger brother Prince Daeron Targaryen who GRRM (who is working on this show) Confirmed publicly is alive & staying at Oldtown. They just didn't have enough time this season to introduce him but he is alive & will be in the next season. He's way older than Aegon's babies & he's a dragon rider himself with his Dragon in Oldtown. That's who the Greens allies would rally behind. And without spoiling anything, They nick name him Daeron the Daring & it's for good reason, this guy is good. So no, the war would not be prevented. Jason Lannister's brother would've been killed which would have him summon the westerlands to war. Otto's got an older bro who would go to war & Otto being executed like that would've pissed off the Tyrells. so there's the Reach The Baratheons wouldn't like King Slayers or Kin Slayers & neither would the starks so that's the Stormlands & The North rising up. The Arryns of The Vale also believe heavy in honor & would hate those slayers so there goes the vale. At the least The North & Vale would be neutral if not declare war on the Blacks. And with this overwhelming support against the Blacks whose to say Dorne (who is independent) wouldn't join against them? Dorne knows how to resist Dragons. You know who else knows how to resist Dragons? The Triarchy who is still around at this point & still fighting the 7 Kingdoms. War would not be prevented period

Guilty by association for cheering at an event they were forced to go to? Life must be weird being a psychopath with a single digit IQ

i thought people would pick up that it was a joke, but it turns out lindsay was right We loved game of thrones. We also we just a bit disappointed that they used the same theme from GOT, not cause we think its bad, it just seemed like a new song would have been a good opportunity for the show to distinguish itself as its own thing

I don’t feel bad for all those innocent people. I really needed some greens to die after the episode. Those were just citizens but they were cheering for Aegon so guilty by association imo.

They didn't even know how bad Aegon is.

Most out of touch take I've ever seen, people deserve to die for cheering, even though they were forced to go......
