Small edit for the title: The episode title was "The Queen Who Ever Was" (in contrast to Rhaenys, the Queen who never was)

24:30 That's Tessarion and Daeron, Alicent's still-unseen son, with the Hightower host.

Considering that the events of the Dance of the Dragons occupies just 5 or 6 chapters in Fire & Blood, they are actually stretching the series a little bit, but at the same time there's much to happen still. I'm finding this series better than Game of Thrones in the sense they are following the setting more closely to the book. Like one of the guys of the Triarchy dying his hair blue: that should have also happened in GoT, Daario Naharis is described as having long hair dyed blue as well, but the showrunners did not had the guts for that. Also, the eerie parts of the narrative are present here, like the Green Men from the Isle of Faces appearing in Harrenhall (the one with the antlers). But fear not!, for next year we'll have our Westeros fix through The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. You will LOVE the story of Dunk and Egg, I can guarantee you that. :)

Fun fact from the behind the scenes video: Clinton Liberty (Addam of Hull) figured out that they have to do the dinner table scene over and over so he chose to eat small quantities of fruit and nuts while Tom Bennett (Ulff) had to eat the "little birds" 27 times.

Evie, this season was heavily affected by the Writer's Guild Strike that hit the industry from May to September, 2023. The scripts usually need tweaking during the filming, but with Ryan Condal also being showrunner, he could only act as producer/showrunner and not as writer. Anything that was needed after the strike ended was only a small modicum of reshoots and minor tweaks since 95% of the show was done. Fortunately the SAG/AFTRA strike (this was the actors' strike) didn't affect the British performers. That's the reason things were a little slow, or seemed to take a while to happen. For me, I'm glad we got what we got. Otherwise we'd have had to wait till 2025 for season two, then either 2026 or 2027 for season three. I think we should be lucky with what we got.

If they follow the book, there will be many people in tears from what will happen. The book is simply amazing.

Alas, they won't because Condall & Hess think they can do better than George.

With respect, you arn't the only way to feel negatively about Ulf after this episode and I get it but I think it's a bit unfair, tbh. Ulf was not trying to be disrespectful. He was just talking to all of them in the way that he talks to his buddies at the bar. He just isn't used to this idea of more "elevated" manners. He didn't mean anything bad by it. He didn't want to disrespect Rhaenyra or Jace. Remember from episode 3, he is a supporter of their claims. He said he was in the open in a place he could've been killed for it that he supported Rhaenyra and that Jace was the trueborn heir. Him saying "it's as dark as they say" was not meant to imply Jace was a bastard. Again, in episode 3 we know that Ulf considers him trueborn. But Ulf's own hair isn't the typical Targaryen silver either. And so he likes that Jace also does not have standard Targaryen hair. He basically sees himself in him. And I don't see anything wrong with him saying "cut from the same cloth." Sure, Jace is a prince and he's a commoner but... so what? I mean, part of the point of the show is that these arbitrary class distinctions are bad. We shouldn't want them to be upheld. Jace having a certain lineage does not make him better. Beyond that, he basically tried to bond with Jace over their shared Targaryen ancestry and how both have been denied as true Targaryens. And he was excited to see him, hugged him and was glad to see the person who is basically his grand-nephew. And other than that he was basically just trying to joke around. Mostly, he just tried to be the fun uncle, showed empathy for Jace's struggles, enthousiasm to see them and tried to joke around with people. He was a bit rude, sure, but I don't think he meant anything bad by it. He's just not used to this context.

Overall, I still enjoyed this season but it had significant pacing issues. And there were some parts of it that were very questionable from a characterization and a logic point-of-view. I hope this gets better and not worse in season 3. It was also kind of anticlimactic in the end but, to be fair, that's probably because HBO reduced the episodes from 10 to 8 AFTER the scripts had already been written. So the writers had to do quick adjustments (shortly before the writers strike) and had to scrap their actual climax. So I don't blame them for that, that's the fault of HBO's CEO.
