I think making the dragons act on their own was a great idea. They are majestic creatures that can never be fully tamed. This presents a potential plot hole as the characters' themselves seem to be equally shocked as we are, but that could be attributed to their lack of experience with dragons. It'll be interesting to see how the adults react to the facts tho.

Yeah, it's a cool concept that I'd love for them to explore more, honestly :) Killing Lucerys was a major turning point in the conflict between the factions, however, and that sort of thing should rather come down to character agency, in my opinion.

@@CultureVultureMedia1 I think you're really wrong here. However, the dragons not being fully tamed and thus unpredictable at times is a great idea and in line with the themes of the book. The Targaryens often act as though they are better than "normal" people. However they do not understand their power, don't even have the power to the extent they think they do, and have to rely on detrimental incestuous relationships to maintain it. The fact that this unearned importance and arrogance is the context for the single most important moment in their downfall is excellent writing. I think you make some good points in your videos (characters lacking agency is an issue this show has in other moments), but other times it feels like you just want to criticize the show without thinking about it deeply. I think this is why your videos have low view count despite your humor and good insight you sometimes have.

Daemon: How did Viserys die? Rhaenys: I could not say. Well, half his face fell off. It’s amazing that he lived after that.

The fact you put 2:42 nails the season 2 Rhaenyra struggling between doing something interesting or doing absolute NOTHING meanwhile people die anyways for her cause, the true Queen of 7 realms At least Aegon is full villain, victim and dictator versus the boring dialogue of Alicent and Rhaenyra about NOTHING NOTHING

I liked the scene with Vermithor. Always fun to see the different dragons and they did a great job on The Bronze Fury. I just never understood the point of the scene. Daemon could probably approach Syrax or Teraxys or even Meleys without getting attacked. The dragons do recognize people. But how much time could Daemon have spent with Jahaerys and Vermithor before he died? Probably not a whole lot. Being a nerd who read the fake history book, I wondered if they were setting up for Daemons daughter to ride him and completely abandon the Hugh and Ulf all together. I thought he was trying to get Vermithor used to him but eh I guess because NOTHING came from the scene.

I need to ask whether you actually think House of The Dragon is bad, or if it’s more of a funny commentary thing that’s kind of true, but doesn’t reflect the series’ actual quality. Also, good video!

Thank you! Hope you enjoyed it :) I strongly believe HOTD has so much ore potential than its currently living up to. You simply can't find this many things to make fun of in a truly well-written show. In my review of season 1, How Not to Copy GoT, I made the point that they "copied the wrong half of GoT" when making HOTD. There are too many profound problems with the show to get into here, so I recommend watching that video :) But yes, as much as I want to love this show, I must admit that it is really really bad :/

@@CultureVultureMedia1 hmm, I actually personally liked it. Maybe there are fundamental wrongs with the show, but the calm/edgy/fantasy atmosphere of the show definitely kept me wanting for more. Although I agree some things could be better - like that “swear you allegiance” scene, and other smaller details. The acting, the filming, the cinematography, the general story, and most importantly for me as a musician, the music, seemed relatively creative, and yet, stable in contrast to, like, 90% of the series that come out nowadays (maybe that’s why I like the series). Yes, I enjoyed your video - made me laugh a few times. Also, I liked ep 1 of s2. The only thing I really “miss” from game of thrones that I wish we saw more of in other series, and because they didn’t have it in HOTD, made it less attractive, is the realism. I feel like they shy away from a lot of the blood, gore and details of the gruesomeness - and instead show it as shocking - like, “Omg, someone died!!!”, if you get my meaning.

@@TheoShahh Oh yeah, I feel you completely. I suspect that this shift in tone comes down to them trying to cater to everyone at once, instead of the people who made the IP, if you take my meaning. The old tone, crass and gory as it were, clearly works. When compromising that (and so much else), you just lose any edge worth coming back for. In HOTD, I don't feel that "no one is safe". I also don't care - because there are no stakes, no pivot, no investemnt, no reason to care at all. Game of Thrones didn't care if some didn't like it, GoT had hella fans anyway, so screw you. HOTD, on the other hand, cares very much what you think, and sucks as a result. I'm genuinly surprised people actually like it (especially those who love complaining about GoT S8), and the cynic in me has to believe it all comes to hype in the end. People want it to be good, and so they decide it is good before they even watch it.

@@CultureVultureMedia1 There are many who think things are good because they expect it - that is not the case for hotd I think. I watched your video named something like “they copied the wrong GOT”, and I thought most of your points were less about how good the show was, but rather that you didn’t find it engaging enough. Though I thought that was literally the entire point when I watched the series - like an ambient song (like watching the waves in the distance. When watching them, I’d rather they not turn into an exciting storm), instead of an exciting adventure song (like GOT). The slow dialogue and the story progression I think added to the atmosphere (Yes, I agree it was less engaging, but again - crashing, wild, vivid with colour (why the hell not) waves may be exciting and cool, but sometimes watching the slow, nice, boring waves is exactly what I want, and finally seeing it was a nice change of pace). That’s not to say the series is a contender to GOT in any way, but I think it contends with a lot of other popular series. BTW, one thing I really agree with is that they should have paced the story over more seasons instead of one season - kind of like when you quickly browse through the pages of a book.

@@TheoShahh That's an interesting point, but I think it's only fair to question whether what you're getting out of HOTD is what HOTD is trying to accomplish at all. As a matter of fact, I find it evident that this is not at what the show is trying to make you feel, just look at their attempts at climactic moments. Nevermind how I don't find it engaging, just look at their failure to accomplish any of the goals they clearly set out to, like creating stakes, setup and payoff, etc... Just because I don't enjoy it, doesn't mean it's bad, but just because some do enjoy it, doesn't make it good either. Storytelling is a science as much as it is an art, and there are inherent factors (like consistency/contingency) that makes a production inherently better or worse. And just like the second half of GoT, HOTD is lacking severely (only worse) in these aspects, which I should think is evidence enough that it's totally overrated. This is also why I'm shocked that some who love to hate on GoT are into HOTD at all. What do you think?
