The dynamics of parent-child bond between Otto and Alicent is reflected onto Alicent and her own children: Aegon, Haelena, and Aemond. Alicent never received compassion, warmth, affection, and sympathy from her dad; hence, she is unable to offer such actions and emotions toward her own children. She tries to confess her sins to Otto but he doesn't have the time for Alicent, his own daughter. For Otto, everything is about practical usage and rationality, no emotion and no feelings. As such, Alicent tries to justify her actions to Haelena, unable to fathom her daughter's state mind slowly descending into psychotic breakdown. Since Alicent is unable to provide comfort for her children having received none herself from her father, her children seek it elsewhere by themselves: Aegon cries by himself in anger and despair, Aemond seeks comfort in brothel, showing regret for his past actions.

It sucks because in the Book Alicent was in the room with them being held hostage and had to watch what happened also Helaena even begs them to kill her instead neither of those things needed to be changed and it feels to me like it was just to make Alicent look bad because this show has been pushing everyone to be on Team Black from the beginning.

Also I found it interesting that Rhaenyra and Daemon’s fight never turned sexual. Alicent acted like a petulant child who couldn’t even use words with Criston and of course neither had the strength to drop their terrible relationship that directly played into her grandson’s death. Trying to find some empathy for her but it’s wearing thin.

Battle of the Twins was a little disappointing. Didn’t have the impact for me anyway. It was a decent fight but some of the story seems to be suffering from the same thing the Disney Star Wars story is having and that’s telling us what should be emotionally impactful instead of showing us. If they do show us, it’s so fleeting as to not make the intended impact…imo 🤷🏾‍♂️

Kind of convenient that Erryk and Arryk still looked exactly the same and for some reason were wearing the exact same armor. I mean lucky Erryk didn't shave or change up his look someway. Also when the lord accused Rhanera of acting on impulse and Rhanys said "Mind yourself" it's meant to look as if she's just talking to the lord but she was also telling Rhanera to mind her anger. He was going to run away from his kids in episode 9 they had to drag his arse back so he wouldn’t leave them. This is 10 days after the death of Luke. So he Did not know what Jaehaerys was up too on his daily routine in that scene with Helaena. He feels guilty because he was a bad and absentee father for the 4 years Jaehaerys was alive and now he can’t make up for it. That is why he can’t even come close to comfort Helaena because he was out drinking his ass off with his friends while his child was getting beheaded. That is why he is acting this way. Aegon doesn’t feel worthy of anything. But after ep9 when he saw the people shouting for him, his mother shielding him, hearing that his father wanted him to become king. He change his mind about his direction in life. He was going to change and be a good father, and a good king (people pleaser) but his chance was stolen. His great chance at a good legacy was stolen.

The argument between Rhaenyra and Daemon is very interesting, and does add some depth to both, but I think it's important to understand that we can't take their accusations or assertions completely at face value. In a fight like this, at a certain point the real issues tend to stop mattering, and any kind of pent-up frustration can just spill out as each side just looks for whatever argument they think will most wound the other. I don't think Rhaenrya truly believes Daemon is scheming to take the throne himself, but it's a natural step from the issue of trusting him to follow her orders, and probably there's a current of thought that she thinks doubting his loyalty will hurt him. Likewise, Daemon's argument that essentially Viserys only named Rhaenyra heir in order to deny him is a shot at Rhaenrya's core view of herself as a ruler chosen for her own qualities, while also channeling his resentment at Viserys for never giving him the recognition he felt he deserved.

I found it interesting how Alicent does not comfort Aegon when she finds him sobbing, yet has repeatedly attempted to comfort Halaena in the past even though Halaena rejects every attempt. Alicent does not cry for “the child”, only “my girl”. Aegon also lost a son. She does not seem to be very affectionate towards Aemond either. For a woman who starts a civil war to place her son on the throne it seems to me she does not very much care for Targaryen men, even her own sons.

In the brothel scene, you missed how Aemond believes that Daemon is afraid of him.😂 In the scene where Rhaenyra learns what happened to Jaehaerys, you can tell that she actually does love her sister, even some of Aegon. Even though she wants to take the throne, she doesn't want to actually hurt them and she sees Helaena as a complete innocent. If she could, she would have gone and hugged Helaena.

I noticed there was a scene with Helaena that mirrored a scene with Rhaenyra. When H is in the carriage she has a moment where she looks up and sees the floating (leaves?) the common folk are throwing. Later we see Rhaenrya have a similar moment where she stops to look at a hunch of floating dust. I don’t really know if there’s anything there but I noticed it seemed similar

If there's a true villian in this story, it's got to be Larys. He's such an opportunist. His motivations are completely self serving & he doesn't care who gets hurt. He's not concerned with the honor of his House, protecting the realm, loyalty or even love. At least the other characters are motivated by what they perceive as self preservation of themselves and/or their children even if you don't agree with their choices/actions or their desire to hang onto power & exact revenge. He's playing both sides against the middle & fanning the flames of dischord & destruction for both House Targaryen & Hightower. The only option now is civil war.

@@youngmyth I think it circles back to the theme of viserys being a weak king, for allowing the crucial decision of naming a kingsguard to fall into the hands of his young daughter rhaenyra. She ended up choosing hastily and almost spitefully. Clearly cole has no business being a kingsguard, his motivations are not meant to be as complex as other characters, he is just a flawed, emotional dude in over his head. Even when named hand, he is clearly thinking "this is a mistake"

From what I’ve seen he opportunistically took power because as we know in this world, peaceful transitions of power are rare (from his perspective, who knows what would have happened to his daughter and the king’s children who at least had proximity to the throne and whose presence would have always presented a threat)? So yeah if you look at things objectively, he’s probably the sanest person on the damn show. Otto believed he was such a genius with how he schemed to put Aegon II on the throne, and that scene was where he realized his plans were crashing down around him at the hands of the person he specifically thought he could control. As is so often the case in this series, a player is brought down because his pawns suddenly refuse to do what they're told. In the end, Otto found himself in the unfortunate position of trying to be Tywin Lannister to Aegon's Joffrey, but *his* young impetuous king is actually of age to rule in his own name, so Otto can't just send him off to bed and is actually subject to Aegon's decisions.

The takeaway message from the Cargyll Bowl is a literal and very painful reminder that everyone (humans and dragons) that go to war here is like brother against brother, blood against blood, etc. It's a civil war, many innocents will die and amongst them dragons will go extinct.
