House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7 Is BRILLIANT

what makes me mad in this series is the lack of agency of characters, they really didnt understand what made GOT famous till today, Corlys, Baela, Rhanys and others just act when the writers want, they dont appear to be real humans, this episode really was great, but i still think it would be more interesting to give more screen time for the others dragon seed, was too obvious the ones who would be riders, at least 1 phrase to them

THANK YOU! I'd even argue that it (agency) isn't just what made GOT great, but what makes almost any show/story great/interesting. People want to see actual, believable (albeit extreme or unusual) human beings make decisions and take actions FOR THEIR OWN REASONS. We (the audience) may not always agree with the reasons, heck, the best ones are often those we didn't previously even consider (e.g Jacerys' problem with the bastards in this episode) but "make sense" once we're presented with it (i.e when the show calls our attention to their point of view). One of my favorite (of many such) scenes in GOT was in Season 04 Episode 08, when Oberyn stunned the imprisoned Tyrion with the line "...and what about what *I* want?..." leading to him announcing his decision to be Tyrion's champion in the Trial By Combat against the Mountain. I personally hadn't considered that possibility until that very moment. But, in hindsight, it made 100% sense - from Oberyn's perspective. And that is key: character's actions; everything they say and do, must make sense from THEIR perspective; it must align with who THEY are. That's what makes characters believable & interesting, because that's what makes human beings believable & interesting. Ok, I'll stop my rant now. If you made it this far, thank you for your time. I just really appreciated your comment. *Edit: The scene I referenced was in GOT S04 E07, not E08. The actual Trial (where Oberyn was killed) was in E08.

I know it's a small thing but what pisses me off is how Vhagar, despite being absolutely enormous, can somehow outmaneuver the smaller dragons and consistently sneaks up on other dragons.

It's how Aemond rides her. He prefers to ambush and be covert and Vhagar is the perfect dragon for this strategy. She is huge yes but her wings don't make alot of noise when she flies in contrast with Balerion or even Drogon. She is dark green coloring on her body and can blend in with brushes and trees plus she doesn't roar and shriek aimlessly like most dragons until she has revealed her presence. It's not dumb It's creative

Lots of large predators rely on ambush hunting, it’s the only way they can catch anything because they’re so big and slow. That being said, the second ambush that Vhagar did was a little silly-how did Rhaenys not see that jumbo jet taking off and hiding behind the cliff lol. But the ambush in the season 1 finale was perfect.

I think they could have developed at least one more character from the sowing because there was 2 characters we knew and 2 dragons to claim so it was obvious what was going to happen.

The worst thing about episode 7 was Hugh shouting at the dragon: “Come onnnnn!!” This was far too modern of a thing to yell and it sounded like a soccer coach yelling at his middle school aged boys to shape up. Really bad writing and took me right out of the scene.

TBH I really thought that one of Ulf or Hugh would die, I spent the whole scene on the edge of my seat wondering which one it was going to be, but no lol they both claimed a dragon.. We are certainly far removed from early GOT when you genuinely feared for each character

The dragon claiming scene, like much of season 2, just felt so predictable. The story arc from flea bottom or shipwright to dragon rider could’ve been a lot more interesting. But instead it felt 1 dimensional and entirely foreseeable. Uff isn’t funny, witty or much of anything except a Targaryen bastard and the show need riders!

That scene between Larys and Aegon in ep. 6 was the only one standing out to me in that episode. Alicent's scenes in this episode was just... filler. Dragons were amazing.

I still really like the show overall but these last three episodes have been the worst so far imo. Just feels like the writing quality has dropped a few notches. Still looking forward to next week as I genuinely don’t know what will happen, I thought Aemond would go to Harrenhal to link up with Cole but he can’t get tied up there with four dragons so close to KL. Maybe KL will rely on the Scorpion things, interesting that one of the bastard dragon riders used to make them. Guessing Daeron will finally show up as it’s been foreshadowed.

HotD is somewhere between the first 4 seasons of GOT & the last 4 seasons of GOT in terms of writing qualtiy Very enjoyable but not peak TV like GOT season 4 was

We KNEW who the dragonriders were going to be just from their presence in previous episodes for no real reason, but I also have to blame the casting agency for seemingly grabbing any white person (surprisingly NO diversity) standing around and putting a mop on their head and saying "Now you're a Targeryon....and also toast."

At most they can be mixed bc the Targaryens are white skinned. King's Landing is mostly white also bc Westeros is based on the real-world UK
