To be fair, Baela is going to be his wife and Queen, and she is pure Targaryen and Velaryon. Ideally, if they won this war for the throne, they could expect to have multiple children before Rhaenyra died and it was time for Jace to ascend. They’d probably marry Jaehera to their eldest son which would unite the Greens and the Blacks and probably the realm. Their daughters would probably marry Aegon the Younger and Viserys. Rhaena’s hand might also be a nice bargaining chip to any noisy lords as well. Without additional dragon riders to muddy the waters, it could have been relatively smooth for Jace.

I wish Rhaenyra would have actually vetted the dragon seeds, at least have them swear allegiance to her (and Jace) as well as determine her direct relation to them. She just handed her cousin (Hugh) - who looks like a Targ - their grand-daddy's dragon....the second largest dragon after Vhagar. In the end, I highly doubt this decision will serve her well.

I think the dragons want someone to match their temperament or maybe parts of their personality or the personality of their previous rider. Seasmoke was Laenor Velaryon’s dragon. Heir to Driftmark. He didn’t want Rhaena Targaryen, he wanted Addam, who is of salt and sea like his half-brother. Meleys the Red Queen was first ridden by Alyssa Targaryen. She didn’t want Daemon; she wanted badass feminine energy and she bent her neck to Rhaenys. Vermithor was ridden by King Jaeherys I, and he banished his wayward daughter Saera, but by the end of his life, he regretted being estranged from her. Now Vermithor bends his neck for Princess Saera’s son.

To add to the last scene, if you notice,vhagar doesn't listen to aemond at first. He has to tell her to turn back a few times and then physically pull her away from dragonatone. That to me seems like he doesn't have it as together as he thinks he does. This is also true when he accidentally killed his cousin. I think vhagar and aemond's bond isn't that strong frfr.

I think that Rhaenyra is (perhaps, cynically) utilizing a religious framework to create a cultish, LOYAL, dutiful following and support base--I think it less likely that she fervently and devoutly believes that the Gods want her to sit the iron throne, but she damn sure knows that the people around her fall to floor for Sky Daddy and them. And to the extent that she does believe in higher powers, the FACT that she wields a huge, fire breathing, flying, chomping mystical beast that only bends to people like her reaffirms that belief.

They've really been building up Larys as a character this season.

I really wish that we had gotten 10 episodes and that some arcs (especially RHAENA) had been concentrated into one episode. If we had gotten a whole ep of Rhaena traveling, meeting and talking with Lady Aeryn, getting some good conversations between them about struggling to control your own life and prove your worth, Rhaena slowly resolving to go nab the dragon... it would have been so moving!

Jace spoke his truth. Elitist and gross, but it’s the truth. His only real claim to the throne is the fact that he’s a dragon rider. Yes he’s Targaryen, but he’s a bastard and everyone knows it, which makes him no different from the dragon seeds. Being Viserys’s chosen heir wasn’t enough to put Rhaenyra on the throne, so being Rhaenyra’s chosen heir won’t be enough to secure the throne for Jace either. He’s pointing out that his mother’s attempt at securing the throne for herself will put anyone who occupies the throne after her in even more danger.

I really like watching everyone's reaction videos. Someone els de said that the Corly's scene was to show his pride getting hurt. I think it has to do with his grief over his family, and in this case, Laenor specifically. Some people feel they can't love anymore after losing a loved one, and his bastard claiming his high born son's dragon is just in his face. All season long, people have been complaining about the Blacks not showing faults. I think their faults have been more subtle, and they're finally going to explore these faults. I love that they're showing the prejudice of the Blacks. They want to uphold the status quo, but things keep getting thrown at their faces. If they want to win, they'll have to accept and adapt. Another commenter under this video was saying how race in Westoros could be defined as Valerian and non-valerian (andals?). Pretty interesting to watch this unfold! As a show watcher who's dipped my toes into book territory on KZbin, I don't know the full story of Nettles but I do know people being extremely upset by her removal. From the little I know, her storyline didn't make sense to me. I think by having Rhaena abandon her job of looking after Rhaenyra's sons, she will lose her favor. I can definitely see Rhaenyra unleash her fury and punish Rhaena this way. Like, you wanted a dragon so bad I'm not even going to let you participate in this war. Rhaena would be devastated that after all her waiting, she still wasn't included. And now her marriage to makes sense for me. I just didn't really get it from the book summaries but I guess I would actually have to read the books to see how GRRM worked it all out lol I know some people are still holding onto hope that Sheep stealer is already claimed and Nettles can still be introduced, but I just don't see it working at this point. 🤷‍♀️

I'm with you! The Blacks' faults are subtle, but they're right there, and it doesn't take too awful much looking to see them ... Like: if Rhaenyra had been born a man, she would come off like Viserys at best and Daemon at worst. Both of those guys are compelling, but neither of them good! She flat out says she wishes she was more like Daemon! And even when someone is not straight up saying it out loud to our faces, the show goes out of its way visually to show how much they are alike on a deeper level (cutting from a scene with her to a scene with him, and so forth). I think Young Rhaenyra as queen would have been exactly like Aegon II as king, just with affairs instead of assaults and her bastard kids in the line of succession instead of in the fighting pits. She's short sighted, impulsive and indecisive at the same time, self righteous, and willing to lean into fanaticism when it suits her interests. What are people saying when they claim she lacks nuance -- that's so much more nuanced than the book, and I love it! I also personally love to hate Daemon, Aegon, and Aemond, so it's going to be exciting when Rhaenyra decides to embrace her inner messiness even more and really unleash the fire 'n blood. It's almost like she and "Beaver Fever" Alicent are speed running in opposite directions, and that's hilarious to me. The show is just maybe *too* subtle with all of this, so a lot of the audience misses it.

P.S.: you have encouraged me to be cool with Corlys again too. I had been judging him for a while once I realized he was one of those basic dudes who gets all hyped about himself because "I got a white girl who has a rich dad! Set for LIFE!" ... but runs around town shagging black women (good enough for the sheets, just not good enough for him to acknowledge in the streets!), lying about it, expecting his white wife to be racist with him against them and being surprised when she doesn't, refusing to acknowledge his kids with them, and only coming back around when the kids do good (and his white wife dies). That's on the same level as Aegon's frat house behavior and I didn't love it. But I do think he's a basically decent and sympathetic dude, not a stone cold d-head like Ser Crispy, and what you said about his emotional state makes sense!

I feel for Jace, despite his "Make Westeros Great Again" bullsh*t, but he's missing the point. Rank, being high-born and legitimacy don't make you a dragonrider, blood does. Thanks to the Blood Mages of Old Valyria, Targaryens--even Targaryen bastards--are LITERALLY the blood of the dragon. If he wants to worry about a threat to his claim to the throne as Rhaenyra's heir he should be looking to his younger brothers fathered by Daemon, Aegon and Viserys, who arguably could have a better claim and are unquestionably legitimate Targaryen princes.
