Aoa Sir in this example you took 24000 as basic but actual you had to take basic salary of minimum time scale which is 20000.

The current basic salary is 24000. The tax has to be calculated on current income and not some minimum level or point. The 20000-2000-30000 is scale which means minimum, annual allowance and max salary. hope it helps

if HRA is taxable then why is it called an allowance and how can the employee benefit from it, if at all?

Allowances are something that is paid in monetary term along with salary. So it gets added to salary. So there can ba Housing allowance (which u get in salary) and then there is housing facility (u get a house to live in).
