Solveig first laid eyes on the 1900’s captain’s cottage 30 years ago…and while the space desperately needed updates, Solveig knew there was no other place she would rather call home. The gut-renovation was a labor of love for Solveig, who rediscovered herself in the process. I have watched every single HW episode but this one felt different. I don’t remember any particular wow item but the soul of this home came through in the beautiful way it was described by the homeowner. It was an absolute joy to tour this home with her. This is a really, beautiful home and they did a great job restoring it! She was without a doubt meant to be the new caretaker of this classic cottage and God planned all for her. I had a similar experience as I lived away from my home in CT for 32 years and dreamed of going back. We looked at 36 homes and I could not find what I wanted. When we stepped into the home we live in at this time, I knew it was meant. I felt the soul of the home and knew it was to be our’s. It still has projects to do but we feel blessed to be here. The appt. to view this home was a last minute decision as we were leaving back to NY the next day and it had just come on the market. I wish them many years of peace and blessings in their home!❤😊

She has poured her heart into it, with her husband’s help, and it shows. Loved hearing all the tales. When she was talking about craning in a mattress, I thought, if there is a next time, get a shrink wrapped bed in a box. The box will fit right up the stairs. I have three of them and I will never go back to the legacy mattress types ever again. They are more comfortable at less than half the price. They are dense foam with a memory foam top of varying thickness depending on your preference.

@@rickgonzalez1218 No, I don’t find them to be hot and I live in Hawaii. The best thing is you never have any pressure points, or permanent low spots in your mattress. To me, it seems like it is the sheets that make the difference in sleeping temp. I use natural fiber ones like linen, cotton and bamboo.

Oh my, 10 stars here! I LOVED her spirit and a praying woman. I loved how she shared so many wonderful stories about her home, her family and her journey. I loved how she sat down and had an intimate moment with us telling us about her 30-year journey to the house. I'm sure that was the Holy Spirit telling her "just in case." No one but God could have made this happen for her. I wouldn't be surprised if there is some history buried in the house that connects one of her relatives from years ago. I feel like I've just met a kindred spirit. Hearing your belief in God and listening to that "knowing" that is too often ignored made me feel joy. And what you did with this unique home is absolutely incredible. The framed wallboard with the builders shared birth date, and the 30 year time span can't be a coincidence, it's a God thing, allowing you to move on from sadness to a purpose doing what you love--rescuing the house and design. Your description of driving past your home, often, and your grandchildren doing that combination eye-roll and groan made me laugh. But of everything you shared, it is the happiness it gives you that shines through! So thank you for sharing your home with us viewers, and for detailing the many improvements you made. This is by far my favorite home tour ever! As for kindred spirits, I found my fixer-upper on a mountain side, small, in desperate need of TLC, and not enough bedrooms for times when my four grown children and grandchildren come to visit. But it was home from the moment I stepped through the door and I bought it on the spot. As my sister-in-law and I drove away after the paperwork, I asked her "Do you recall seeing a heating system, or closets?" she shook her head in the negative. "What about a bathtub?" I asked. "There was a tub" was her answer. None of it mattered, because it was that feeling that it's were I belonged. I've lived here for 15 years and this land and the cottage is far more precious to me than several of the "grand" homes I've owned over the years. It has allowed me to retire and write in peace, which was always my dream. Now there are an additional four cabins on this property, one for each of my children and their children, closets, and designed in a way that makes me smile on my way to the kitchen for that first cup of coffee. However, the heating system has been ignored--there is a wood stove : )

Solveig, I wanted to leave a comment here, to let you know how much I loved this episode. I, too, felt like God led me to my home. I remember, it had all the things I wanted in a house, but it was overall, more than I thought I would ever have. It had been recently renovated, so there was no work to do here. Plus things had been added that no other home had in the area, including a gorgeous covered porch in the back which was essential for sitting outside.There was a very good spirit in this place, and I remembered thinking of the phrase, I have many mansions and I go to prepare a place for you. I felt this home was prepared for us. Another person was going to purchase the home, but his financing fell through because he didnt pay his car loan on time. It really felt like a gift. While I was watching this episode, I was reminded of Gods gift to me. The first time I watched I fast forwarded it, but God told me to go back and watch what I missed. I really cried when I heard you describe your story. I have been having some struggles and not really realizing how sad I was feeling. God told me I have wonderful blessings for you ahead. I was overwhelmed. Thank you for being one of his willing hands to bring good things to others. I love the hebrew over the door in your home. You are a lovely person.

This is not a coincidence… This is a Godincidence that I am watching this video❤️🙏 I am now buying a home in the same area by the River, and I am in the same season of life with all of the same emotions and feelings. When we found our house We walked in and felt a rush of warmth and contentment. It was truly a blessing from God. I never comment on videos but this home tour deserves one. This has to be my favorite episode and I have watched so many Homeworthy episodes. Solveig has so much soul alongside her house. My thought while watching this was, “I wish this was my grandmother’s house.” How whimsical and lovely it must be for children and adults alike to spend time there. It feels like something out of a movie or book. Thank you for sharing!

I am so happy for you that you decided to buy this house. I grew up in Ventnor heights and like to visit Mays Landing often. I feel the same way about a house with "soul". God knew you belonged there.

It was funny listening to her story of seeing the house for the first time- because for me it was my husband who fell in love with our house and I realized when dragged me to see it that he was going to buy it, no matter what. And he was right, we have been so happy here and now I love my house.

Wow I so enjoyed listening to this lovely woman! I am glad I kept watching. I love love love old houses and this one is so beautiful. There are many things i like here but i was thinking it was all too much white for me, so I was going to watch something else. Then she started talking about the feeling coming over her like she was home when she stepped out of the car- i was riveted. (39 min. In) I love allbthe colorful plates on the wall in the dining room with banquette. The kitchen has pattern!! Kitchen is very interesting. Nicely done. Thanks for this wonderful episode.
