Color consultant Fiona de Lys takes us inside her eclectic and beautifully layered Georgian cottage in London.
For more extraordinary home tours, visit our website: homeworthy.com/
Steeped in history, Fiona embarked on a rejuvenating renovation of her 18th century Georgian cottage. With a passion for storytelling through design, Fiona's home not only perfects the art of balancing rugged charm with refined elegance, but also effortlessly reflects her English and Italian heritage.
In Fiona's sitting room, the verdant hues of English woodlands come to life, casting a tranquil spell on visitors. Rich, solid greens evoke the dappled sunlight filtering through leaves, fostering a deep connection to nature. Meanwhile, the dining room transports guests to Fiona's cherished childhood summers in Sardinia and Liguria, where terracotta and pinky orange tones pay homage to Mediterranean landscapes and family memories.
Throughout the home, Fiona's expertise as a color specialist shines, effortlessly harmonizing drama with simplicity. Every room unfolds like a chapter in a captivating novel, where art and antiques mingle to create a timeless and deeply personal atmosphere. Enjoy!

I was inspired by so much of what you've done but especially by the red sofa with the many colored cushions and by the red chairs, one of which is falling apart. I have such a chair that I suspect is covered in Fortuny fabric. The fabric is literally unraveling before my eyes, revealing the cotton beneath, but it sits proudly nevertheless in my lady's chamber. Your style is honest and reassuring. Thank you for sharing your home.

This is one of my favorite homes tours by far. The collected feel in this house is just right. Her story is what this house is about, therefore, a place worth to live in. I learned several ideas from this tour and on top of that, this tour is a reminder to me that an authentic home is much more interesting than a house full luxury and without a true story. More like this, please!!!

The magic here is that this homeowner knows what she loves and understands the interplay between individualism and good design. This has been my favorite episode so far, and do believe the reason is because the homeowner is not imitating something she has seen in a magazine or filling her home with things that others have told her are stylish, she has forged a very personal, yet carefully curated home. What a delight!

I agree. I've lived so long in Europe I often cringe seeing American interiors no matter what end they are. My mother's Swedish so there's that too. I adore Italy and have spent so much time there, it's interesting to see how to bring a bit of it into northern European interiors which are so different with a whole different climate and way of life. The Brits are always interesting in their love of filling cottages with loads of objects, furniture, fabric, prints etc. It's the English way. Alot of the time in the more high end or designer owned properties, I have to assume they have professional cleaners who can be trusted with navigating vaccum cleaners (hoovers) and dusters in tight spaces with lots of sensitive andtiques. Bc it seems to me incredibly labour intense to keep the dusta at bay with a zillion surfaces to collect on. I do think they're great, likely the very best, at designing spaces that are and look very comfortable, mixing antique with new, precious with thrifty and reflect the interests of the owners. It's extremely rare that I see American homed and think, yes, I'd feel comfy and surrounded by things to spark my interest if I stayed there. They feel construed, unnatural to me, anxiously concerned with middle class values, (apoearences before content) and often just ugly. The exceptions are homes of artists and intellectuals I've seen, who aren't too concerned with "decor" and people who've built their own cabins from scratch, which can be fantastic.

The lines and color and texture of the cane sofa is wonderful. And her antique pots are such a unique collection. Especially how she describes them as relating to humans. Her grandfathers sideboard is such an incredible heirloom. The amazing old desk with the emerald green lamps... oh my... be still my heart! I was so happy when you explained the huge credenza in the kitchen. My mind was wondering how in the heck did she get that massive piece in that tiny kitchen! Then we went upstairs! How that incredible credenza got up that narrow staircase! Impressive. Where there's a will... there's a way! And the bathroom is an experience all its own. Swimming though seaweed. Sounds like she had an amazing childhood!

Love this lady and her style! I find the homes that I'm most drawn to are collected over time and have a sense of personal history as does this one.

I love the items Ms. Fys shows, I can see that she has experience in scenic and colors/light antique designs. With all of her antiques in her home , creates a sense of comfort and harmony and how the values her Italian family objects and her mother’s teaching of Taos arts/language.. she makes me expresses my mother’s favorite objects {( the Tinaja( water pitcher)} in Dominican Republic.

This was undeniably my favourite Homeworthy tour with an articulated presentation from the owner/hostess. There was nothing pretentious about Fiona. Her validation and assessment of quality, interest, history and function solidified her attachment to the Georgian home that she not only transformed but imbued with soul and character. I can only wish that I had such an inspiring neighbour one day. Cheers! Darryl

So unique to her and her history. Such interesting stories she has about all her findings and things she's inherited. 🎉🥁🏆👑🥇😍💯👀👏💐

My favourite episode of Homeworthy so far. Love the style and colours. I even love the purple colour in the bedroom and I normally don't like purple walls. I realized it's just the matter of the right shade. Absolutely charming house.

What a fabulous mix of colours an absolute delight to watch this episode. Loved Fiona’s colour presentation and her narrative to each aesthetics, pattern, natural elements & form in her arrangements. Normally it would come off as loud and busy with the riot of colours, however her brilliant juxtapositions with her decor & design makes it pleasing to our senses!

Her home speaks of comfort:) and authenticity. A chair for the visiting dogs, candle holders with wax drippings, her desire for color and light, and curated vignettes in every room to remind her of places she visited, lived in or cherished, like the antiques from her grandfather. Love her kitchen - charming and functional, a great mix of styles. I really appreciated her acknowledgment that life changes are often the catalyst for changes in lifestyle/home choices and color choices. Our homes either reflect who we are or hide who we are. Nothing is more sad than an overstuffed pretentious home, no matter the style or expense involved. An intriguing life/travels and interesting careers led her to deep dive into what a home means for her and how to turn it into her personal healing, happy sanctuary - like a soft hug or welcoming embrace. Definitely one of my absolute favorite home tours - thanks!

She has made the design philosophy into poetry. "Hops on her ceiling beam...deliriously delicious." "Montra to color...read the light of the room." "Candle wax...not too precious about it." "Find your aesthetic narrative, the soul of your home." So very interesting and captivating. Love it!!!

Oh my goodness, I love this woman so much. As soon as I saw her and heard she was British, I thought, “Oh, this is gonna be good.” Fiona, you are beautiful-love your style, love your outfit, love your eclectic mix of color, pattern and cultures but always with family, relationships and memories as the foundation. I found your artistic home so inspiring and I’m sure your friends and family feel like they’re walking inside a big hug when they’re there with you. My “aesthetic story” (I believe you called it that) is different. My home is in San Diego, CA about 7 miles from the beach, and the colors, materials, feel reflect that. But I also have inherited more traditional pieces from family members-I didn’t initially value them as much, but I’ve learned to mix it all together in a way that balances the family history (mostly from the Southeastern US) and my casual contemporary lifestyle. Also, I have five daughters, and kid art is my favorite. I just brought out my Easter decorations and have a framed work by each girl that they did when quite young. So fun to harken back to that precious and challenging time when they were all little. Bless you for sharing your home and story with us-I truly feel blessed by it. 😊
