Absolutely incredible. If only more buildings had this level of craftsmanship. Why can't we invest in public buildings to be built like this? The old churchs, train stations and public spaces where we can all access this level of beauty and grandeur. Brent, please keep doing what you're doing and thank you for sharing this lovely house and all your passion in these videos!

That's a beautiful home! Oddly, that hallway is a favorite feature of mine, and I prefer homes with very little to no hallway. It's got to be grandness of it, and the continuous arches. Gorgeous!

Beautiful house Mr hull, I love large custom builds, had a customer who found their doors from France dated back to the early 1700’s and got their granite from the same quarry as the sistine chapel these jobs do take years but the craftsmanship is timeless

At first glance I was thinking AM Stern but after watching its clear this is a Brent Hull house. This is tremendous. hopefully Rizzoli, monacelli, ORO, etc will see this and begin working with you to catalog the brilliant homes you have shared with us. It would be amazing to have lot orientation/footprint details and subsections highlighting millwork, wood species choice, construction materials. We were installing windsorone yesterday and it reminded me to check the channel. Thanks for sharing!

Here is manifest everything you talk about and promote Brent. Via the Net I have looked at hundreds of the most expensive homes on the planet. Their settings may be better, but as a home none are superior to this. One or two come close, but none are better overall. Most had serious flaws and inconsistencies, that an unlimited budget was unable to overcome. Congratulations to all concerned. Glenn

A stunning house. So much thought and detail. It reminds me of the golden age of English Country House - 3rd quarter of 19th century onward to the outbreak of WW1 - in the sense that the very wealthy owner (in England at the time wealth could have come from coal, cotton, railways etc.) hired the best architect they could find and said “build me a house that will impress”. I don’t know that I’ve seen any of these houses incorporate features from abroad such as fireplaces but certainly Italian statues, classic paintings. The size of those houses - and this one - could not be justified in terms of the size and scale being needed - but rather the attempt by relatively nouveau riche to demonstrate wealth and taste. The Royal family also indulged - I think of Osborn House on the Isle of Wight which was dramatically altered for Queen Victoria herself; it is massive, completely Victorian in its style and contents. The most successful nouveau riche succeeded in getting that ultimate accolade - a visit by a member of the Royal Family. WW1 came, and that lifestyle disappeared very quickly. Many houses were eventually demolished as there was no money available to pay Death duties, maintenance and servants; some, thankfully, did survive but I think that almost all are now owned by the National Trust; sometimes allowing members of the original family to live in some minor parts of the house. A century before that, the money was almost exclusively “old money” as opposed to the “new money” a century later. The 18th century saw the birth of the idea of the “Grand Tour”, where young aristocrats plus wannabe aristocrats, writers and painters would do the grand tour through France but mainly journeying through Italy and Greece as the centres of the classic world. The tourists with wealth bought up treasures by the shipload to bring back to their ancestral piles in the UK. Back to the features house. Eclectic is a very difficult style with which to be successful; it can easily end up in an incoherent mess. However, even modest eclectic seems, to me, to be more acceptable than a pastiche. I hope the family who owns and uses the house enjoys its scale and it’s style: and enjoy it as opposed to using it as a furtherance of their social or business status. I wonder how many “servants” are needed to keep this house and its family going as opposed to the largest of English country houses where the retinue could easily number 30 or more. The tour was, of necessity, quick. I did spy on the timber fireplace from France, horizontal linenfold to the face and vertical linenfold to the sides - I have never seen that before; very interesting way of filling a low but wide space. The method of supporting a timber roof on stone corbels is something you see quite a lot of over here; many churches come to mind. Speaking of the architecture of churches, perhaps other viewers would like to go to the websites of Westminster Abbey but particularly St. George’s Chapel in Windsor. The chapel is, I think, one of the finest examples of stone architecture anywhere and, when you consider it was finished in 1528, it’s all the more remarkable.

The French books are hard. There is an architectural salvage yard in Dallas called Pettit that sells French antiques. Start with that. I'll need to look in my library. There is a collection of great French books called "edition Vial" that you can order from France. I like those as well. Doors, floors, etc.
