I don't understand why you guys ever stop making the show I absolutely love this show

Because usually the makeovers were impractical/outlandish and they would make the house much larger than they originally were thus increasing the bills/property tax .The families would often have no choice but to go into foreclosure and in some cases bankruptcy.

The criticism against the show was completely unfounded. The financial hardships the press was going wild over impacted only 5% of the show's recipients, and those cases weren't because the homes were too expensive. These families experienced hardships after they received the homes, most of which stemmed from the effects of the recession. Hardships like loss of income or surmountable debts like medical bills can be detrimental for homeowners regardless of income, house size or value. For example, between 2007 and 2012, Habitat for Humanity saw over 3,000 partner families nationwide lose their homes under almost identical circumstances. That's why I call it more a delusion than a criticism. Politics played a huge role in the backlash once the affordable housing crisis started to unfold, the network was ill equipped to handle the situation, and the press clearly didn't hesitate to take advantage of that.

@@BuckyBarnesNC It also needs to do a lot of reviewing of their past history, a lot of these families can not afford all the hidden costs that pop up in such a short space of time So many families do not have the income to help them along, the mortgages they still to pay as some are not lucky to have had their mortgages paid by the builders and or the amazing charity from people they dont know. It is so sad to read that a lot of families from this show have had to sell due to circumstances beyond their control, it`s heart breaking.

This was so special because as a Army vet I totally get it. This man and his family deserve this so much. I’m so happy they got this help. Police, fire fighters, EMTS, paramedics, military, and I could go on and on. They don’t get paid enough for what they do and what they do is help keep us safe and alive. They should be paid way better and I hope someday that changes. I saw a football player with over 200 million over 5 yrs only to throw a football. Yet most of these people make less then 50 grand for putting their lives on the line. That’s insane. They save lives and other people play football or put a ball in a hoop. How insane is that?

You never could do such a show in Germany. The architect would need month to think of it, than he needs a structual engineer, who needs month, than you need a permission, that needs month. You won't find a lot people, who help or sponsor and the building does need less 6 month to get ready outside, inside longer and when you are ready, the tax office says "now you are richer, than before, so pay more tax. But.... our buildings are not completly flying away in storms or rott in malt, except there are flooded before. To build a house of wood is more than rare. Stone by stone.

Having grown up in Superior I can say with experience it is definitely not a very positive or welcoming atmosphere. Because this was at the height of the recession, let's just say the show's crew didn't exactly get a very warm welcome. I was a news carrier for the Duluth News Tribune at the time and the morning they arrived, I remember taking one look at the front page and almost blowing an aneurysm. The journalist they put in charge of covering the build was clearly NOT a fan of the show, so for 10 days straight the coverage was basically perpetual trolling. To add to the negativity, the builders ABC recruited to build the house basically made it clear from the start they were only involved for the publicity. One day Ty tried to give some words of advice for assembling the parts of the house and they just turned their noses up and chewed him out. They badmouthed the show's crew every chance they got, never made a single mention of the family and when all was said and done, after the episode aired they complained about not getting enough credit. In Superior there was a small but very outspoken camp of people so opposed to the show's presence there were two separate incidents where people showed up trying to stop construction, but we're turned away by security. After the show's crew left, there were many well wishers, but still enough narcissistic socialists showing up and chewing them out for accepting the house that they had to get the county sheriff involved, who happened to be one of their neighbors. It's been almost 14 years, and to this day just thinking about it makes me never want to see Superior again

That’s sad
@WhiteArrow76 Жыл бұрын
@@natashamiller4860 I studied Sociology and Philosophy in college and for years I've been scratching my head on the criticism against the show, and I finally figured it out. It was political. Logically speaking it's virtually identical to the myths about Habitat for Humanity, only from the opposite end of the spectrum. While far right has a history of stigmatizing affordable housing, the far left does the same thing to more contemporary forms housing (hence the origins of the term 'McMansion'), as they equate it with social and economic inequality. While this is a legit issue, the far left fails to distinguish between 'fair' and 'unfair' inequality. Long story short, the criticism stemmed from building political tension over the issue of housing which was building since the early 90s, which finally came to a breaking point with the Recession and the onset of the affordable housing crisis. The 9 cases I mentioned before created a situation ABC and the producers weren't equipped to deal with, which in turn created a situation which the press clearly took advantage of. I could literally teach a class on this.
