Just because you read a book cover to cover numerous times doesn’t mean that there is any understanding taken away from it. This is, as usual, so very important. This relationship we are ministering too(the reconciliation of God and His children) is personal. Although we have this collective experience as the body of Christ we must, so as to properly conduct ourselves collectively, have a very personal relationship. So personal that it makes our kingship and priesthood without lineage, no beginning or end. It can not be transfered to another. It is your priesthood and your kingship. As you draw near to Him He draws near to you. This is the process of conversion from individual child of God to member of His body.

I suppose it depends cause at the same time. The Christian/Jewish god isn’t the only god, he said so himself plainly. The enemies of Isreal preform rituals that allow them to turn the tide (which cannot be described as demonic cause would god call these other gods demons or lesser beings than him? Why gods who are just weaker than him?) I am not saying that the Christian faith is not truth or has value but we cannot ignore what this book represents. The attempts of people to write down the oral traditions, history and most importantly mythology that links them and their connection to a certain god. How we view this connection changes with times, cultures and people. But we also cannot ignore the past and the knowledge it holds. Or the fallibility of texts like the bible or the quran in understanding these divine beings nor can we fully trust what we see for our minds and minds of others especially community can be wicked tricksters

I am enjoying this program on Melchizedek. I’m wondering if you have read “ The Cave of treasures”. It is quite a long work but also proposes another view of who he is . In short , it says he was a godly man chosen after the flood by Shem . Supposedly he and Shem left with the body of Adam and went to the current site of Jerusalem where God opened the earth and they buried the body of Adam . Melchizedek was left to guard this place which later would be called Golgotha. He became priest of the most high and king of Jerusalem. Interesting story but not sure if it’s true

There is good validity in discarding the word Jesus, since not only is it far from the pronunciation of the Messiah's name but it was used by the White Supremacist Anti-Christ forces to bamboozle original people. In any case to know that TMH is Love, Oneness is more important than knowing the exact pronunciation of His name. No one will be saved simply by knowing and saying a certain sound. Zedek (Tsedek) could be a Canaanite name for Yahweh. But other people identified the same name (linguistic term for a certain deity) for a sun god. Some ancient Jews failed to distinguish between Yahweh as a Canaanite deity and the scriptural revelation of Who the True God was. It doesn’t mean Melchizedek worshipped a sun god, but worshiped the True God by the same name.

An aspect to the mystery of Melchizedek that interests me is the idea that before Israel (Jacob) was, his grandfather Abraham had already visited Melchizedek, Yahwh's king and priest of Salem. If He was the same yesterday as He is today and will be tomorrow, men, women and children were keeping the sabbath day holy and worshipping Yahwh for a very long time before Israel existed or Moses brought the "law" down from the mountain.

Melchezedek was Priest/King of Salem a city in Cannan. Abraham was the Priest/King of Cannan and actually RENAMED Salem while Melchezedek was there. Abraham performed the Priestley duties before YHWH in Salem, Gen 22:13-18, where was Melchezedek? YHWH appeared before Abraham several times in Cannan, in the day of Melchezedek, and performed Priestley duties each time. There's no instance of YHWH having any personal interaction with Melchezedek, thus, proving that the Priests descended from Abraham are much greater than those descended from Melchezedek. There much more information in the scripture to prove this fact.

I have heard that some of the Jews have tried to make Melchizedek Shem. Priests are descended form Aaron. But Christ's priesthood is superior. By making Shem and Melchizedek the same person, they disqualify Christ as our high priest. It is said that the contraction of the ages of the patriarchs was due to this. In reducing the ages by 100 years Shem would still be alive during Abraham's day and, in this theory, would have received the tithe. The Septuagint retains the years and disproves the theory. Josephus and the Samritan also retains the years. Your opinion on this would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

The book of Jasher says Shem and Melchizedek are equal. It doesn't take away from Yahusha Hamashiac, because He Is! If you haven't read Jasher, then you don't understand that the living patriarch is Shem at that time. Abraham learned of The Father by Noah and Shem, and at this point, the patriarch is Shem. Shem taught Isaac and Jacob, too. Also, the Levitical priesthood isn't named yet, because the 12 tribes aren't yet at the time of this Genesis meeting. Still three generations away - Issac, Jacob, and the 12 tribes.

Like Dr. Heiser says, we do not know whether or not Melchizedek was thinking, "Oh, hey, we worship the same God, only by a different name," when he met Abram. That said, that idea is confirmed for us by Abram himself just a few verses later. Melchizedek had called his God, "God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth" (Gen 14:19). Abram, in response to the king of Sodom's offer, used the same exact words as Melchizedek (identical in Hebrew) but ascribed them specifically to "Yahweh, God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth" (Gen 14:22). So, even though we don't have insight into Melchizedek's mind, we do for Abram; and it seems he was of the conviction that Tsedek and Yahweh were two different names for the same _El Elyon,_ the Most High God and Maker of heaven and earth.

Yahweh did not make himself known to Abraham as Yahwheh. He clearly said that to Moses when he spoke to him at the burning bush.
@HickoryDickory864 жыл бұрын
@@danielalba8032 It's not nearly as clear as you propose, seeing as the name "Yahweh" is actually recorded coming out of Abram's mouth in Gen 14:23 and others. So there are at least two options: (1) We take what Yahweh says to Moses strictly and historically literally and assume that the name "Yahweh" is an anachronism inserted into earlier accounts (because, again, it _is_ there and comes out of the patriarchs' mouths frequently); or (2) that Yahweh was talking to Moses about the fuller meaning of his name being known _experientially_ (i.e., _eyeh asher eyeh,_ "I am who I am" or "I will be who I will be," Exod 3:14), meaning that Abraham never knew Yahweh as he would come to be known by his descendents, i.e., as the deliverer and redeemer of a nation, and as a national deity.

Some of the comments below are just foolishness. Why do folk need to make Melchezideck any particular perfect person from history, or even need to. Heiser is completely logical in this presentation and the thread is complete without having to make the person anyone in particular. The point in short is that Melc-deck is a first instance of a King/Priest of the most high. Thats the point, he is a symbol or example to point us to Gods way and intention of what Adam was supposed to be (but mucked up) and who Jesus our Lord will be after His return when he rules in Jerusalem (and is right now spiritually) so we dont need to turn Mel-deck into anyone of human importance! Balem was a bit of a rat bag and yet gave some pretty good prophecy, showing that the people God uses or references in scripture do not have to be any kind of perfect person. Jehu did some good work but went a bit too far. So stop trying to read warm fuzzys into the scriptures to suit your own theology, learn. Heisers thread through this teaching I reiterate again is logical, it has a definite thread.

Who’s Melchizedek? Melchizedek appears 3 times in the scriptures and it’s seen as a very important man ! But not much information it’s given from where we came from neither where it go it . Mostly the Christians saying that is yeshua incarnated !! Why ? Is that true ? We know that names have meanings special back in those days and : Melchizedek = my king it’s righteousness Starts to say that we was a king and a priest in the land of Salem . Salem = Jerusalem . A king and priest that has for a habitat the land of Jerusalem !!! Kind of interesting sounds like a type of Messiah type of Christ . But did yeshua incarnated this figure and lived before as a king and priest in the land of Salem ( Jerusalem ) before ! It’s this scriptural ? Or just an assumption? He shall not add or take away from what’s written . We need to be diligent in our studies and leave our preconceived believe aside and look for the truth of matter in regardes our personal initial believes or someone else interpretations . Let’s see what we are able to find about this Melchizedek king and priest of righteousness. Book of Jasher, Chapter 16 1 At that time Chedorlaomer king of Elam sent to all the neighboring kings, to Nimrod, king of Shinar who was then under his power, and to Tidal, king of Goyim, and to Arioch, king of Elasar, with whom he made a covenant, saying, Come up to me and assist me, that we may smite all the towns of Sodom and its inhabitants, for they have rebelled against me these thirteen years. 2 And these four kings went up with all their camps, about eight hundred thousand men, and they went as they were, and smote every man they found in their road. 3 And the five kings of Sodom and Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboyim, Bera king of Sodom, Bersha king of Gomorrah, and Bela king of Zoar, went out to meet them, and they all joined together in the valley of Siddim. 4 And these nine kings made war in the valley of Siddim; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah were smitten before the kings of Elam. 5 And the valley of Siddim was full of lime pits and the kings of Elam pursued the kings of Sodom, and the kings of Sodom with their camps fled and fell into the lime pits, and all that remained went to the mountain for safety, and the five kings of Elam came after them and pursued them to the gates of Sodom, and they took all that there was in Sodom. 6 And they plundered all the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, and they also took Lot, Abram's brother's son, and his property, and they seized all the goods of the cities of Sodom, and they went away; and Unic, Abram's servant, who was in the battle, saw this, and told Abram all that the kings had done to the cities of Sodom, and that Lot was taken captive by them. 7 And Abram heard this, and he rose up with about three hundred and eighteen men that were with him, and he that night pursued these kings and smote them, and they all fell before Abram and his men, and there was none remaining but the four kings who fled, and they went each his own road. 8 And Abram recovered all the property of Sodom, and he also recovered Lot and his property, his wives and little ones and all belonging to him, so that Lot lacked nothing. 9 And when he returned from smiting these kings, he and his men passed the valley of Siddim where the kings had made war together. 10 And Bera king of Sodom, and the rest of his men that were with him, went out from the lime pits into which they had fallen, to meet Abram and his men. ✓ 11 And Adonizedek king of Jerusalem, the same was Shem, went out with his men to meet Abram and his people, with bread and wine, and they remained together in the valley of Melech. 12 And Adonizedek blessed Abram, and Abram gave him a tenth from all that he had brought from the spoil of his enemies, for Adonizedek was a priest before God. Verse 11 Melchizedek as well adonizedek same was Shem . Let’s now observe some scriptures : And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. Compare the way Noah blessed Shem !! To this verse where Melchizedek blessed Noah ! Genesis 14:19 KJV [19] And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: Similar blessing language. Hear this : Cyclopedia of Biblical Literature 3rd Edition, John Kitto Vol II 1870 Edinburgh : Quote : The Jews in admitting this official personal superiority of Melchizedek to Abraham sought to account for by it alleging alleging that the royal priesthood was no other than Shem the most pious of Noah’s son . Now hear This : Ancient history of the este . Quote : The commonly received opinion among jews according to Jerome and also among the Samaritans agree that Shem is the patriarch Shem . According to v.11, Shem lived 500 years after he became the father of Arpachshad. This statement indicates that Shem died after the 500 years, therefore he died 502 years after the flood at the age of 600. Furthermore, if we trace the births and deaths of the patriarchs in the seed line carefully, we find that Abraham was born 392 years after Shem. Since Abraham only lived 175 years, Shem outlived Abraham by another 32 years. Therefore, Shem must have been the Melchizedek of Abraham’s day, since he was the oldest living patriarch in the line of the seed promise when Abraham was alive. We can’t know Shem’s age when he met Abraham, but it’s likely Shem would have been about 450 years old when he met Abraham. Finally, there were 892 years between Noah’s birth and Abram’s birth. Since Noah lived 950 years, we know he died shortly before Abraham left Ur to go to Canaan (when Abram was 58). Once Noah died, Shem inherited the title of Melchizedek. That is two lines of priest wood The levites And the Melchizedek order ! We know that Noah was a man of God . Genesis 6:8-9 KJV [8] But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. [9] These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. When walking with God he will teach you his ways is statues and ordinances . Noah passed that information to Shem is older son ! Normally the 1 * son inherits the fathers possessions and gets the blessings . So Shem had the title of Melchizedek ( order of priesthood ) an exemple of royal 👑 and priesthood . Resembling the high priest to come (yeshua ) The land of Salem as well known as Jerusalem affirms that the begging on this blood priesthood would start with Shem and finishing with our high priest yeshua . Reining as king and priest of Jerusalem! Interesting how dotes connect together and all lead to our messiah . Many believe that is a pre incarnation of Christ ! Yeshua was prophecy to come from a virgem in the Land of Galilee . Not to interpreter a living being in a time where no evidence whatsoever that leads to him . He assume out of our preconceived knowledge assuming our love for him . Paul on Hebrew 7 talking to the levitical priesthood he mentions the order of Melchizedek! Why ! One it’s the true order one is the false order of priesthood and to call them to attention of their own ways of tidings and cultural background refreshes their minds by saying that the father they claim to follow( Abraham ) paid the tithes to this true ordinance of messiahs priesthood title that was ordered by God and will be terminated when the true priest and king returns to reign . That’s why it’s mention “ after the order of Melchizedek “ If we was Melchizedek would be after is own order . Importante to know that scriptures points to two events ( Christ first coming and second coming) As well importante to read other Jewish scriptures asides from bible to wider the understanding. Final note : Shem the fist righteousness priest and king of Jerusalem Messiah the last and everlasting righteousness priest and king of Jerusalem. Be blessed 🙏🏼

At around 23:00, we are having explained that Melchizedek may mean Just King and be an epitaph of the king that the priest represents. Could that mean that Melchizedek is a _prophet_ of God and could tie into the idea that this priest is the last of a long living child of Noah? It might be a bit way out but Noah's children lived relatively long lives and would have overlapped with Abram. If Noah was the carrier of God's mission then a offspring would likely follow this mission in this way. One of the references to no beginning or end could refer to nobody being aware of who his parents, or grandparents or great grandparents, given that Shem would have been 500+ years old and by that point lifespans were closer to 100 years. It makes it very difficult to put a pre-carnate Jesus when it being one of Noah's children would have been a more consistent with the rest of the story of the Bible. The point about the name being of a king of the priest who visited makes a lot more sense to me. That king would be Jesus in this way.

I think it is interesting that the two gods, or characteristics of the God, justice and righteousness, are the same characteristics associated with the role of a king, justice, and a priest, righteousness. We then have it proven that these exist in God alone through the exemplification of Jesus. We also find that justice is always to be conditioned by righteousness. The righteousness of the Father realized enables the Son to be the Justifier. This also shows why Adam could never have been the steward of God's creation, because in man exists no righteousness. Through this we hold the proof of how fundamentally necessary the being of God is to the whole of reality.

Shem was the patriarch at this time. It's generations before the 12 tribes of Jacob, so the Levitical priesthood isn't yet. Moses isn't yet. The book of Jasher speaks of this. Something along the line of $299-$399 and BOOM you are a certified "clergy". And the more saps that come to your business AKA "church" the more money you get. And then when you need some more money in your pocket you just spend an hour going on about the ole cash cow Malachi 3 "bring the tithe/ storehouse/ windows of heaven" spiel and the ignorant saps put 10% or MORE of THEIR money in because they are too STUPID to read the Bible and see that the "tithe" was never money. Abram arrives. The kings of Sodom and Salem come out to greet him. It turns out that the king of Salem is also a priest (priest-kings are common in this era) and he brought bread and wine. He introduces himself as "My King is Righteous." Abram says, "Your king? I thought you were a king." Melchizadek says, "I am, and my King is the God Most High, El Elyon, the King of Kings, and I serve Him as his priest." Abram says, "Cool, I never met a humble king before. Tell me more about your God. I think I know Him." And the story goes from there. Btw, the epithet "King of kings" was also in common usage. It denoted the "top dog," the biggest, most powerful king, chief among peers. "The Most High God" certainly qualifies to be so regarded.

16:20 - right here! RIGHT HERE!! King of ZION... zion means desolate place!! In other words... King of a 'desolate place'. Everything comes from 'darkness and desolation'... this is the 1st step of creation... and why (Isaiah 45:7) after the world was 'created' it was in a state of destruction... formless, void, and darkness. Then the 'light' (ohr) is 'formed' FROM and thus separated FROM the 'darkness'. Thus, when satan appears as an 'angel of light' - he is 'not'... or 'not yet'. The IS that IS NOT and yet... shall 'come' (either way). Job accepted BOTH good AND evil... as evil is just 'good' that has not been 'formed' yet. This 'evil' is just another component of 'time' - a 'seed' that will produce whatever 'kind' of 'fruit' as per the 'water' with which it is watered. Living water from 'above' or 'bitter water' - from 'below'. Also... there are (2) hands... and if they are 'against each other'... then they cannot work 'together'. This is the concept of the law of blessings and curses, the 'staff' and the 'rod' of God's unbreakable 'law'... which is as a 'beast' that CANNOT be 'overcome'. We are serving God from one of either side... the 'light' (day) or through stumpling (night)... when 'nobody works' - baptized by a pillar of 'fire', or even in the 'lake of fire'. Simple.

Trying to get a clear and as accurate interpretation of texts of any sort, to me, is more valuable than trying to fit them to biases. For what ever reason people have thought fit to hang into these texts and treat them as important To me they are a random collection stories Spoken of in this level headed way, these text begin to give a glimpse into the fragments a dispersing people left behind. Maybe I will begin to see why those who came after thought these texts were so valuable they based their God in them and used their energy on preserving them. I am atheist and very likely will remain so, but I am interested in knowing a little more about the history and conditions of humans.

I like much of what Heiser does, but I think he has a predilection toward the obscure, controversial and iconoclastic. If there are two possible interpretations one of which is standard and the other poses theological conundrums, Heiser will tend toward the latter. I take the opposite tack. Unless there is strong reason precluding it, I will prefer the interpretation that resolves the most problems. Heiser seems to have a proclivity to muddle Old Testament monotheism, coloring it quasi-polytheistic every chance he gets.

Machiventa Melchizedek, the Sage of Salem, was incarnated as an emergency Son to keep alive in the world the dying embers of faith pending the bestowal of Christ. It was he that spoke to Abraham, not God, but the later scribes and priests changed the records because they did not want Abraham to be overshadowed by anyone less than God. Heiser criticized the Urantia book but he clearly didn't read it. If you want to know who Melchizedek really was, have a look. Search his name on the online version.

Wasn't it a super common thing in the Semitic world for kings to be priests of their city's main god? Nebuchadnezzar II was priest of Eanna. Or see the terms _en_ and _ensi_ in Sumerian. The king of the city was also the high priest and servant of the city's patron deity. So I don't know why Heiser acts like it's so weird for a king to be a priest...

the priesthood of God is without beginning or end. Melchizideck held that eternal priesthood authority from God.

All this energy and time... reminds me of my grandfather who spent hours every night because he thought he had a system to beat the Pennsylvania Daily Number... what a waste...

Wouldn't Psalm 110:1 ("the LORD says to my Lord") explain how a righteous king could have a king over him? It would refer to the "Two Powers in Heaven" theology even way back in Genesis 14:18. I believe the Genesis 14:18 Melchizedek cleverly reveals the Father and the Son (Two Yahweh figures) even in the name or title Melchizedek. I'm surprised Dr Heiser didn't catch this one 🤔

Adam was human, but the 2nd Adam is being transformed into what God before ordained for the 1st, quite possibly...doing what could be done, for He was the son of man; but couldn't be done because man is not God...

Psalms 110:4 says “ you are a kohen forever against the decrees of Malkitsedeq”. The word Kohen (כהן) isn’t always “priest” from the tribe of Levites. 2Sa 8:18 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were - “chief rulers” כהנים Kohen in the masculine plural form. 2Sa 8:18 and Benayahu son of Yehoyaḏa was over both the Kerěthites and the Pelěthites, and Dawiḏ’s sons were priests. The word kohen can also can mean ruler. David’s sons were kohen, Christ was from the linage of David meaning he would be ruler, kohen, also a priest “ruler” just like David’s sons 2Sa 8:18. This means Christ crushes pagan kings like Malkitsedeq as psalms 110:5 reads Psa 110:5 The Lord on thy right hand smote kings In the day of His anger.

I have always thought Melchizedek Jobe and Shem were all the same person. Shem born before the flood so he would live over 500 years. Out living his great grandchildren he he would seem to have no beginning.

That is from a Young Earth Creationist point of view, so sorry but it doesn't work. Shem is likely to be 40,000 years ago.

@@fudgedogbannana there's actually no reason to believe that the authors or audience of the time didn't actually believe the genealogy and lifespans literally. The written stories would likely have been based off passed down oral traditions, long after the events documented had occured. If you existed 5000 years ago and your rabbi told you 3000 years earlier men lived to be 900 years old you'd have no reason to not believe him. He was an authority, and the modern scientific method didn't exist.

Why would melquezedek need worldly offerings? Isnt it strange that our creator would seek a 10th of worldly goods?
