Either KZbin or a rendering error caused the footage to look more choppy than it is in reality. Apologies.

they utilized 3D CGI in a way that it adds to the cinematography instead of just being too lazy to properly animate, the colours, animation, camera work, tension, choreography were well done

The most underrated anime for me in 2017 .I missed this show and wathed it this year .Damn where have I been
@pigeontoes54217 жыл бұрын
I love the CG so much. It's nothing like RWBY where they try to make it look like a 2d anime. It's strength is entirely in that it's CGI, because they acknowledge the limits and strengths of the form and use it to make the anime beautiful and visually dynamic. I know most CGI anime end up in the uncanny valley, but this one was just done so RIGHT. Cast aside your prejudices and try the anime out, because if you don't, you're missing out on something AMAZING. There's never been an example of CGI anime done so right.

The character arc in Houseki no Kuni is one of the best in Anime in general really.

I got so impressed with Houseki no Kuni that I invited a friend of mine to watch it with me. At that point it was the second time for me and I kept thinking and admiring how familiar all the characters where. As you said the other gems don't really talk about other gems in front of the audience but due to the personalities they reflect(yeah yeah haha) they don't need to do that for us to get to know them because we already do. So when I was watching it the second time around my friend stated that he didn't like how big the cast was and that it was a waste of space because he didn't know them... I didn't say anything to him (didn't really feel like discussing it at the time just wanted to watch the show) but I think I will the next time we watch.

I kind of had to laugh at the point you made @2:14 onward. :^) They do a great job following what you described for I'd say >98% of the runtime. But man, the camerawork and choreography during the fight against the snail in the beginning of e03 was a train wreck without that restraint you talk about. Alternating between closeup and wide in quick succession at random. Flipping and spinning about the place with a complete disregard for the viewers orientation. Stretching and contracting the space they inhabit and length of the snails tail at will when they fall, run or dash as soon as the camera zooms in. That was in complete contrast to that very episodes ending, where 3D camerawork and animation was utilized to its full potential. Thankfully that was the only occurrence of ridiculous and disorienting camerawork and choreography. The rest of the show is just like you described it, and I loved the show for it.

Anyone else notice that the building the gems all live in looks like a giant beehive? I wonder if there's any significance to that (other than the fact that the gems are all genderless, like drones.)

Does this anime have any male characters in it besides the teacher?
@korisnthere7 жыл бұрын
No. All the other characters aside from Kongou, while they may look female, are neither male nor female (this has been explicitly confirmed by the author of the work as well). Edit: forgot about the sea peoples, who are gendered

I think there's actually one male character and one female character that's been seen in just a couple episodes, when Phos went out at sea, but other than that the entire cast is sexless and genderless, including all the gems and Adamant sensei... and I think the lunarians too?

Sensei Kongo's hardness is a 7. Yet he is the strongest gem. Bort is the second strongest. Which doesn't really make sense. If Kongo is a 7 in hardness.. should she/he be less stronger than bort? Well no. Kongo uses his gem shards from his arm (His gem shards are called Adamantine) to fight the lunarians. The lunarians seem to favor Sensei Kongo.
@Creatorsan5 жыл бұрын
@@hello-pf2ew where in the manga did you find that? (Which chapter?)
@_wami74384 жыл бұрын
Kongo is based on the fictional gem "Adamant", an unbreakable gem. Adamant is a fictionally man made gem, his hardness is unknown or it knows no limits. If you don't believe Kongo is based on the gem "Adamant", you can read the manga and he will be referred to as Adamant-sensei or Adamant.
@Kirbyeggz3 жыл бұрын
@@_wami7438 I don't know if it's explained in the manga, but Adamant is an old name for Diamond. Kongo is hinted to be Lonsdaleite, or Hexagonal diamond, which can be up to roughly 58% harder than diamonds when pure, due to its stronger structure.

Damn the CG looks great, but damn the backgrounds looks jarring sometimes compared to the characters. Although the painted backgrounds looks jarring sometimes, it does force them to hold the camera still. The hair is great, purdy cool. This is way better animated than I expected, but I'm still not a fan of the frame modulation, even if it leads to great effects. For the KyoAni comparison about framing, does it only apply to works done by Naoko Yamada, or also Yasuhiro Takemoto, because I haven't seen any of his works. Well now I have to watch Houseki no Kuni.
@korisnthere7 жыл бұрын
Cyba I would say it applies to both. I specifically had in mind Haruhi when I made the comparison, but I just happened to have raw footage of KnK on hand so I used that instead

"3D is just another medium of expression." Well there's the problem isn't it. The thing is art isn't about expressing your inner self or your fucking emotions. This is why anime will never be art.

How do you manage to make 3D animation stiffer than a still frame of 2D animation I don’t know... Everytime I see something move I feel like my FPS is dropping even though am merely watching and not rendering. This is not beautiful
