Chuck is right. If certain teams aren’t in the race, the league suffers. You need viewership and interest to generate money. You need those big teams in the race which is why people allude to game rigging. I think the league pushes for certain teams and storylines. Remember a guy sued the NFL for not getting a “authentic” product. They lost. It was said the NFL is an entertainment business. You aren’t entitled to “fair” games. Let that sink in..

As someone who witness the late 80’s NBA up till now I can say Shaq was never the brightest player. He never needed to be. He had his spots and could remember plays, but he never was lauded for reading a defense or offense and making spur of the moment adjustments. For example like Bird who made a career off of doing just that.

Imo, I don't think it really applies to rookies. Like if they're on a losing team, it shouldn't be held against them, because most of the top rookies go to bad teams anyways. You can't expect a rookie to come in & make a bad team start winning right away, of course some have in the past, but for most of them it doesn't work that way. Off topic, but MVP on the other hand, it's a different case, I didn't like how they gave Westbrook & Jokic the MVP when they were the 6th seeds. Winning should matter in the MVP race, otherwise Kobe should've gotten it the year he was killing it but they were the 7th seed.

There is literally clips of poole online not paying attention during timeouts and saying “doesnt matter this my team”. he's not wrong . in the last 40+years , knicks were relevant for a brief period in the early 90s and 99 lockout season. That's it. in that time, the NBA was saved by Bird/Magic, went global because of MJ, Shaq/Kobe/Duncan kept it going, and Lebron/Curry took it to the next stage in the social media era. It's a popularity contest and it always has been always will be. There's not point in trying to pretend like it's anything else. Coaches and players picking their favorites is the exact same as fans and the media picking their favorites. Everybody has an argument why their guy should be on that list. All this nonsense about not taking the all star game not being serious enough don't mean ANYTHING if you have a 6th man playing the game. Because at the end of the day it's the same result... fans won't be watching. Nobody tuned to the All Star game to watch a regular season type game.

Brunson probably should have started but Dame is more well known. SGA made it too. Usually if you become a multiple time all star you will have a shot at starting every now and then no matter where you play. Dame been an all star level player for a long time so he got more votes in the east simply because he’s more well known.

Why would they disagree, did they not see the knicks vs nets game. That was the most insane shhh ever, the knicks bought all the tickets for a Brooklyn home game and bridges was getting boood at the free throw line and it turned into a home game for knicks. That’s energy! No other fan base doing that shhh, same wit LA everybody comes out for those games. It’s a way better environment when they’re playing good

I completely agree with shaq, people got confused already about what being an allstar is all about. The whole point is for the fans to see all there favorite player play a game together to celebrate basketball, it 💯% is a popularity contest but that why we have all nba teams that dont take in to a count the "likability" of a player

No it shouldn't be. If you go solely by fan votes then it is a no contest, Every great International player will get voted in first all the time. They have a whole country supporting them plus the fans at their home team.

I think everyone forgets the All-Star weekend is for the fans. Most fans don't care who is playing well. They wanna see their favorite players go head to head and team vs team against each other to see who the better players are. If you start taking away that then people aren't gonna watch the game. Fans wanna see who they wanna see. Not who you want to see.

That’s been taken away. They don’t compete anymore. Back in the days players competed against each other in ASGs for bragging rights. New generation don’t wanna play hard in ASGs, prob cos they so injury prone these days

When a player retires and people look back to see how good he was / should he enter the HOF, people always look at if he's "X time All-Star". But if popularity is the only criteria then it shouldn't be used to evaluate how good a player was. Zaza Pachulia almost made it one year if anyone remembers. Adding player vote and media vote is a great change IMO, a great balance between fan favorite and who's actually playing well.

And "Dr." Shaq, it's not very intelligent to say only the large markets should get to compete. That's completely unfair to smaller markets. Representation across teams is crucial.
