Just want to throw it out there, but repotting into a larger pot isn’t always the answer. That is so accurate either have that or have two of those so you have four leaves or six if you have three so I had that happen where one of them kind of outgrew the other and they couldn’t balance each other out if you notice in time lapse is the plant needs to find balance in the bigger the area around it the more it can balance itself else it will need to drop smth so don’t use any supports on them and give them as much space as they want to band and this way you can control it I

My mum has a huge alocasia with 10 leaves. It’s in the smallest pot ever and my mum never fertilises it since she’s just not a fan of fertiliser. It’s just in a really bright, sunny spot. Seems to work out for her.
@luiokami38624 жыл бұрын
I can’t post pictures of my plants but I own two different species of Alocasias and they are HUGE right now. If they lose leaves when new ones come out is because the roots of the plant don’t have enough energy to keep all the leaves, so here’s a few advices that have worked put for me: - bigger clay pot. That’s the main thing you need to do if you want your plants to keep going. Plastic pots have to be discarded as soon as possible, and the bigger the pot, the bigger the roots will grow. Right now, the roots of your alocasia don’t have enough space to provide the plant with all the energy it needs. -Avoid direct sunlight. They need a lot of light but a sun rays cannot touch the leaves or they’ll burn (maybe in winter it’s ok, but only then) -A LOT of water. Like a lot. These plants grow inthe depths of the rainforest, next to rivers, therefore, you can spray water on their leaves and the soil needs to be moist all the time but DRAIN THE EXTRA WATER FIRST. What I normally do is wait until the surface of the soil is dry and the I take the plant to the shower and water it for like 2-3min non-stop, and then, before returning it to it’s place, wait for all the the extra water to drain through the draining holes of the pot. I’ve been doing this since last spring and my alocasias have never been thriving so much, I use a bit of fertilizer on them every now and then but I don’t think it’s necesdary unless the plant is yellowing a lot or the leaves are too weak. Good luck!!!

Remember that your gloriosum is a crawling plant. It should be in a long rectangular pot. All the leaves, usually 3, are at the leading end of the plant, as it crawls along it loses the older leaves and the “stem” on top of the soil will be bare. To make it more bushy you can cut the bare stems into sections and leave them in the pot. These pieces should eventually produce their own leaves.

(1:22) You need to fertilize your Alocasia... when your "small" Alocasia grows small leaves does not produce enough "energy" so it will drop a leave when a new one grows. The new leaves should become bigger and bigger. The "bigger" leaves produce more "energy" and your Alocasia will start to keep older leaves when new ones grow. BUT... you will need to use fertilizer to keep your Alocasia healthy and happy. You could say that an Alocasia is a energy hungry plant.

That was exactly what I was thinking. In orchids, if a phalaenopsis grows a leaf and every time loses an old bottom leaf, that usually means the light isn't quite right or it isn't consistently fed at low levels. It sounds like what is possibly going on with the plants here...
@diannenaworensky66984 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same. The green on those leaves were mottled. The green should be consistant in color. I know most people with house plants water at half strength but maybe bottom watering/feeding should be done separately. Personally for hanging baskets I spray the fertilizer over the leaves. I dont leave it to chance that the fertilizer will get to where it needs to get from a saucer beneath the plant

@Zelda00Gamer2 жыл бұрын
Idk if this is still an issue for you a year later but I’ve grown orchids for 4 years. The key is fertilizer. That’s it. Very simple. They love fertilizer and if you feed them well in the spring you should get reblooms in the summer. Or it might pop a new leaf summer and bloom in autumn. An orchid needs two leaves above its last flower spike to grow a new spike. Otherwise it makes a leaf. So if you don’t water consistently or feed consistently it won’t put out a new leaf and during warmer months it uses its resources on leaves first.

I'm sure someone has already said this, but the bulb based plants that are abandoning a single leaf when a new one comes out are in a holding pattern. The bulb will only support what it thinks it can keep alive via its current resources. Size up the pot a lot, tons of fresh nutrition, and you'll see over time as the bulb gets used to a new set of resources it will start to actively support multiple leaves. After that, it it's still getting really solid feeding, every subsequent leaf will be larger and larger. :)

One of the workers at the nursery assured me it was just sunburn, so I trusted him and paid $40 for the plant thinking I was getting a major deal. Alas, it is one of my greatest regrets in a plant, because the spots were indeed a fungal infection caused by root rot. Peace lily. . .such a dramatic queen, she just seems miserable every other day, and I don't have time for that sass. Everyone says they are sooooo easy to care for, and I honestly don't get it. I've gotten two as gifts, and curse the giver for doing this to me at every chance.

i kinda regret buying my calaethea ornata. just because i reaaaaally don’t like high maintenance/diva plants. but it was so pretty i couldn’t pass it up haha.

i love their beauty but will not buy any calatheas again. My medallion died but my rattlesnake is thriving. I will just stick with this only calathea I have. I don't use any humidifier, and I stopped spraying. I just take him to the bathroom every time I or anybody in the house takes a shower. That's the only time she gets good humidity and he's doing well. Just a few brown tips but it's growing

I got one at Walmart and it was doing so good for a while bc it wasn’t putting out new growth. All the new growth has been partially brown even before the leaves uncurled and just doesn’t look as nice

Ugh...mine got attacked by spider mites. I treated it, repotted it and only use distilled water. It hasnt grown in months.

My orbifolia kept losing leaves for a couple months after I brought it home and it only came with 5. I watered it accordingly and my indoor humidity is normally over 50% so I knew that wasn't the issue. Also it was getting rain water... When it was on its last 2 leaves I decided to move it to a brighter spot, by a window and also started watering it with filtered water. It's been growing a new leaf every month... it's crazy! And no more crunchy tips, either! I would've never bought it if I knew it preferred brighter light but she's so pretty that I had to make room for her :D

Frydeks are also pretty rewarding but you gotta give it a little while cuz what they’ll do is eventually create completely new sprouts! It takes a while but eventually your pot would be littered with pups and it’ll look much fuller!
@korenarebecca4 жыл бұрын
Same with the Gloriosum, if you give them more room they’ll spread like wildfire! Alocasias and philodendrons grow wild where I live and when they have a lot of space they can easily overtake a patch of land on their own. They just need lots of room and some time but it’s worth it!
@maurogrisi84694 жыл бұрын
i had the same issues with the gloriosum and several alocasias. what worked for me was watering more and using liquid fertilizer when i noticed new leaves where coming (like really early on) or they will kill the other leaves for the resources and you will never have more leaves that the ones you had from the beggining.

@@abbeyripko9999 happened to me it's just the plant going through a dormant phase if you want you can increase humidity &temp and it should have new growth. I see new growth on mine ;)

Actually zzs thrive in tiny pots, they really like the lack of space and grow faster. I would not repot the zz until it is atempting to burst the plastic pot.
@SolveMarketing4 жыл бұрын
Yes to the repotting omg, and not to mention fertilizer needs are also highly particular. The category of moist but not wet soil, weekly drenching directly of soil vs multiple occasions of light watering, can also spell trouble and especially if other room plants need more frequent watering.

Give your plants large containers and they will grow.
