"purchased legally"? Very unlikely with the long criminal history (assault, forgery, drugs and weapons violations). At least some of those should be felonies which would automatically disqualify you from being able to purchase a gun legally. Someone dropped the ball here. A private sale like that is going to take time to run down, if they're able to ever run it down. Another question, she was born in Central America, was she in the country legally? If not, why wasn't she deported after each run in with the law. This is why we have to be careful about who we let into our country. They say the gun was "purchased legally". They didn't say if the shooter was the original buyer or if she sourced the firearms through a private seller or dealer. In Texas, a private seller can sell a firearm to any Texas resident as long as he does not have a reason to believe the buyer is not allowed to have a firearm. The buyer also has to be a resident of Texas (drivers license) and be 18 years of age our older.
