Officers then located the suspect south of the intersection of South Dairy Ashford and Westheimer Road. As the suspect fled from police, he fell in the parking lot in the 12600 block of Westheimer and an orange-colored knife fell out of the backpack he was carrying. The suspect picked up the knife and continued to run westbound, then turned northbound and ran into a cemetery in the 12800 block of Westheimer. Officers followed the suspect into the cemetery and gave him repeated verbal commands to drop the knife, which he refused. Despite officers’ multiple attempts to peacefully de-escalate the incident, the suspect repeatedly yelled for officers to shoot him and charged at them with the knife in his hand. The suspect then fled further into the cemetery and, again, with the knife in his hand, charged at the officers. At that time, Officers Luu, Huynh and Deleon discharged their duty weapons and the suspect was struck. Officers provided medical assistance until Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the male to Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Few of those people who make coarse comments realize that not one of these cops will ever be right after such a traumatizing experience as suicide by cop. Policemen are in Public Safety and not soldiers or gunfighters. Gun violence, movies and videos anaesthetize us from seeing someone getting killed. Each one of these men and women will be adversely affected from this experience. They will be depressed, drink too much, too little and future relationships will be affected by this experience. So remember, when you see a graphic video like this remember, violence kills people in other ways than just a bullet to your cranial cavity. One last note. Those watching another human getting killed will affect how you think about death and public safety. I've worked in SCI rehab for the last 46 years and I've seen trauma from both sides of this issue. Cops or gang members who've been paralyzed for life because of gun shot wounds. Sorry, I am tired of seeing broken and bent bodies. Thanks for listening.

The Police force is a meat grinder. A cop witnessed a MVA that involved the mangled bodies of children & when he requested stress leave because of the trauma involved he was told by his sergeant to resign. We can heal from trauma if we're supported & given time to recover. (I don't condone using alcohol as a crutch or wallowing around in depression. I'm not judging those that do but it only exacerbates their symptoms & makes their recovery more protracted) To push experienced officers out the door when they witness inevitable serious crime & experience trauma just adds insult to their injury & lowers the morale of the Police left at the helm.

Hope the poor guy didn't suffer much at the end. Having known people with depression, schizophrenia, and more, I feel for this poor guy. 5+ people pointing guns at him had to feel like the end, even though it's because they were scared too.
