I mean understand Angel’s point but there’s a ton of research that shows when BW “date down” they and their resulting children are more likely to slip into poverty than men who do the same. So while Eboni’s tone was stank and unnecessary so was Iyanla’s question. we gotta stop telling BW to choose better men, than yell at them when they do.
@moonlite1752 Жыл бұрын
Angel is out of touch and is as wrong as Iyanla. I completely agree with you. Black women’s statistics are positively through the roof, while black men are the complete opposite. It statistically makes no sense for a black woman to date below her means, especially to simply appease the black community. I feel Ebony was completely justified in her mannerisms and response.

That bus driver part was spot on! I’m divorced and “dating”, but these men around here don’t want to grow with you by any means. They expect to jump on someone else’s successful train but be catered to and not demeaned for lacking themselves. There’s no grace or understanding given, just expected for their plight. I’ve always been willing to work with potential and in the past, once they get a lil leg up, they turned around and treated ME like the broke-y. No ma’am, no ham, no burger these days. It’s more about what people’s financial life is like than their job title. When I was last dating, my strong preference was for a fellow white collar professional. I’m an engineer and still in the upward swing of my career and thought I could relate better to someone in the same space in life. Plus I wanted someone who was already financially stable so that we could join forces instead of having to wait for them to catch up (I know that many blue collar workers make good money and are stable). I met my husband, who was a laborer who repaired pallets and I had to decide pretty quickly if that was a deal breaker for me because he was pretty happy with his life at the time. He owned his home and car, he could afford to take care of his kids and buy what he wanted, and he was able to save more than I was even though I made twice as much. So I told him, as long as he doesn’t mind that I make more than him, I’m good with it. We’ve since invested in each other and have a great life. He moved on to driving a truck (he used to do it back in the day) and is looking at starting his own business (he also ran in business back in the day).

I get Iyanla saying to be open minded but Ebony K (and statistically many black women in the US), don’t want to deal with (long term) the pay disparities, the resentment, the bruised male ego. Not to mention having to front the $ for them to travel or go out with you. Perhaps they can’t get the time off work. Lifestyles have to match too in the long run.
@AudioGAWD Жыл бұрын
That's a weird double standard that exist, but anyone can do what they want.
@Taewills Жыл бұрын
@@AudioGAWD what you’re actually witnessing isn’t a double standard but women who realized they can & do get what they want on their own. So there is no double standard bc we aren’t asking for a partner to complete us / take care of us, but one who will step up meet us at our level. Not only financially responsible, btw. Emotional intelligence, spiritual and mental health are also attributes at the top of any woman’s list. Also…. Idk why these convos are always so heteronormative but lgbtq women hold these same standards for women they’re seeking. If someone doesn’t at least have the same mentality/intentions we’re looking for then we go find it elsewhere. Simple.
@moonlite1752 Жыл бұрын
@@Taewills 👏👏👏 Like I previously stated, black women are the only women who are taught to date down and below standards. Especially during a time where black women are EXCELLING far beyond black men and even some white male counterparts. Socio-economical class and status have to be compatible for multiple reasons. They’re just mad black women have better options when we date up and outside of our race!

@Taewills Жыл бұрын
@@yes_anotherone3260 yes! I saw only a snippet of that - I meant to watch the whole thing. From personal experience it was lumped together for me. Both with a male partner and a female partner. In the end I just learned it’s not my job to ensure anyone else’s success unless they’re my minor child. Although I can be sympathetic or empathetic to someone’s situation, I’m not going through life constantly making allowances for them or staying behind with them bc my activities or accomplishments make them feel bad about themselves. I disagree with Angel here because if you look at the top values alone, no matter what the value is (for men it might be looks, for women it might be money), men don't be dating down at all. So many average at best dudes will only claim IG model girls and nothing less. I'm not like that but I fully support women having higher standards for their desired trait in a man because men have ALWAYS done it and continue to do it with no one doing anything but congratulate them for it. Flava Flav was and still is dating beyond his facial means! Other black men (I am not naming names) date beyond their body build means. Why is it ok to do that with looks, something that could be impossible to safely change but not with earning potential which is far easier to improve?

I think what’s missing from the dating conversation is what has happened to black men in America that has led to this. I think what Iyanla was hinting at. Mass incarceration due to wrongful convictions, gang violence, and police violence all affect the dating pool. Then when these men get out of prison all of their rights are taken. A lot of them need therapy to push them into a new mindset to show them they can still be successful and just have to find ways around the cards they are dealt. Now with that being said black women have held the community down and have had to achieve more success to be the example where it was lacking from the men. Hats off to black women. They deserve the world and more. Basically I get both sides but no one should have to settle.

angel is right in part because yes, character and work ethic matter. However, if you are in a certain socio economic back ground as a woman you should strive to date someone who is a equal. An attorney you should date someone within your tax bracket. IMO it is nonnegotiable. especially since we live in a patriarchy and the male ego is very fragile! look they got made bc a woman out of their league said she would a bus driver.. like really its her preference. just like how men like women who havent "hit the wall" and shes in her 39? according to them she hit that wall and is undesirable so why do they care. I wish the black americans would stop telling their daughters to settle. plus the pickings are slim so if you gonna date date up. and sidenote rich men do not care if they date down because they have money and we live in a patriarchy. If you pay attention closely you would actually realized rich successful men majority of the time marry within their social economic class. and within that class they look down on men that marry poor. they usually just date poor women or have them on the side.
