Reed has to be on cloud 9 rn, 8 months ago he wasn't on any draft boards. Wasn't a starter at Kentucky and had the lowest usage rate of all the lottery picks. Reed is the biggest winner of the draft, no matter what happens in his career.

nahhh I'm a alp fan I just called it before March madness that Reed Sheppard or a big was what we needed just cause I like Reed dint mean I don't like amen or Jalen... just cause I feel like an extra big pause would be great don't meN we alpi haters ... my thing was when allpi go against these super big guys he could use another big to add some fouls lean on em a Lil bit help with rebound I was really scared a team with a good big would get another one and alpi can't beat Bismark byombo rt now lol all that being said back I. March I started my Reed Sheppard campaign I'm glad even if he just Steve Kerr or jj reddick I'm cool even if he bust I'm cool it's a great gamble I project more like a mark price2.0 type I hope ... I think the understated point is between him and Jabari we got the best two shooters at their position 2 out If 3 years that's scary because Bari still clutch and now with Reed our shooting is going to be crazy I the future

@@EF_HUTTON i got what u say but wanting another center when having Adams, Landale and Bari as a stretch 5 was dumb and kinda looked like sneak diss at Alp to me. And Landale looked great after Alp's injury and Jabari was good too as a stretch 5 in March.

Clingan would have been the safe pick , but Reed is the best business pick. Not mad at the pick, but after being drafted after 2 French players, you gotta play with a certain chip. Basically looks like international players have surpassed American players imo. I would have liked to see Clingan at 5 and Sengun at 4. In my mind I felt like they could coexist if defense was the identity. At least we could hang out hats on playing intensive defense. I feel like they want Reed to turn into a Curry type player with defensive upside. But I think due to his size, it’s going to be difficult for those college stats to translate to bigger faster players in the NBA. The bright side is, I feel like he is in a great opportunity to get rookie of the year if those 3s hit, and he’s somewhat formidable against elite PGs at the very least.
@BossNerd
@BossNerd 7 күн бұрын
Udoka needs to see the possibilities of having depth. Its counter to common NBA practice but depth lets you keep people fresh. Fresh legs let you maintain defensive intensity and keep that shooting percentage high. I would put Sheppard on the B team with Adams, Amen, Cam, and Tari. Adams throws some incredible outlet passes and now you have all those athletic guys and Sheppard as the trailer with the 3. They are going to destroy a lot of second units. I expect Sheppard to be very similar to VanVleet - a perfect tutor for him. All that Clingan talk was nonsense - analytics still mean a lot in the rockets front office. Everyone said Clingan also had good analytics - not by my math. He will be a back up and he is not a shooter. Sheppard will probably look really good in summer league but he won't be starting any time soon.

Rockets just watched Boston win the championship by bombing out with 3 pointers and defense. I think the analytics department and Ime were able to sway Stone into drafting Sheppard because it's time to win, and in the NBA you've gotta be able to shoot the 3 to make playoff runs.

An underrated aspect of Reed's fit in the Rockets is how he prefers and excels playing off the ball. Even when he's playmaking, he rarely dwells on the ball. Granted, I only seen two of his Kentucky games, but the way he distributes the ball quickly, and relocates to receive a pass felt like he would fit in very well with us, as so many of our players like the ball in their hands. Best non-white comp feels like FVV lol.

The core players on the Rockets are only between 19-22 yrs of age. You want to win now, but that doesn't mean you have to give up on them too soon. You don't give them a deadline. A guy like JG didn't even play college basketball. He's technically just a junior in college. BE PATIENT!

Great pod guys. Frank I was thinking like you on the trade back option. I said this in the begining of the draft process, that if the Rockets thought Sheppard's shooting would translate to the NBA they had to take him. they could not afford to allow SA to get their hands on him. by selecting him tells me the Rockets think he will shoot well on the next level. the fact that SA took Castle with the next pick meant the rumors were true they were looking to take the best guard from this draft. if Reed reaches his ceiling we may have killed 2 birds with 1 stone.

See that's why I stay away from rumors. They have no value on reality. They don't need a KD, and anyone telling them different, needs to shut up. Alpi is young and growing and has potential, a aging KD is just that. He's a shell of his former self. Keep what they have and grow. Let KD stay in Phoenix.

Reed averaged 8 FGA per game…most of which were wide open. What Reed did at Kentucky with very limited volume was probably an anomaly. It won’t come down to amen. At all PT.2 Reed is going to get his chance. It will always rise to the top. The same way amen found his niche. It will ALWAYS rise to the top. I think the Nets were bluffing....I think they were gonna trade Bridges regardless, and they played us. If a team offers you 4 firsts and I think 4 swaps for a role player, you're not gonna take it? Even if it's the Knicks? The Nets were screwed....even if they kept Bridges, they were still gonna suck, and it was going to be a lottery pick. Stone's reasoning for doing the deal, was that we got 2 firsts and 2 swaps in return for those 2 Nets picks. But the problem is, you traded 2 guaranteed lottery picks, for picks from teams that have young stars. The last pick swap being in 2029 with either the Suns or Mavs. Booker will be 32, and Luka will be 30....barring a major injury, or trade demand, or their talent level falling off a cliff, they're still going to be on their same team, and still playing at a high level. So those 4 picks essentially, will be in the 15 to 30 range. You traded the opportunity to draft a superstar, in hopes of landing an old one, who's a diva, on a max deal, who's often injured. The other problem, is that the Nets now have 3 years to improve their team....so our 2027 Nets pick swap might not be that great anymore. The Nets are now loaded with picks, and after next season will be off the Ben Simmons contract, and have a ton of cap space. I think this trade could possibly be the worst in Rockets history...worse than the Paul for Westbrook deal....we didn't give up guaranteed unprotected lottery picks in that deal...in what's expected to be a really talented draft pool next year.

I hope I’m wrong but this wasn’t an up towards move more of a side to side or a complete trash pick. We used to 3rd overall pick on a undersized shooting guard converting into a point? Plus coming off the bench? Okay I have nothing against Reed but not at the No. 3 pick. Nothing about this kid scream starting point guard and a potential major threat. All I see is a hopefully catch lightening in a bottle Curry once in a generation shooter. I don’t see that, Curry was hit from the parking lot in college. The West is full of 6’4 plus points guards with physical builds. I’m thinking about Booker, Castle, Ja, Fox, Murray, Ant, may I say Luka. Reed would be a liable and would need to exit the floor during the playoffs. That’s my first move to take way his spot up jumper. Post him up every time. If you don’t have franchise player then trade back or just take the best in Castle. Oh yeah he went to SA, who’s going to be a nightmare matchup now with no Bigs to bang on Wemby. We are short and having Sengun banging against players 30 to 40 lbs heavier isn’t smart. This is the first indication that the shooting progress of Amen must not be going well. I thought Amen was going to be the antidote to the West big guards of with Tari helping at the forward spots. We could have called Detroit for Marcus Sasser if we looking for shooting from the point. I really really hope this isn’t a complete bust. Haven’t we learned from the down fall of Duncan of the heat that a single skill set is a major defensive liability.

Not going to lie if Sengun doesn’t get traded in the future him and Devin Booker in a two man game would be so lethal it wouldn’t be funny. Regardless that’s in the future what you guys says it’s pretty much spot on. By the rockets getting the Suns picks and giving the Nets most of their picks back. They basically saying they don’t want no more young players. For the next year or show they need to show if they are capable of making the playoffs or at least getting to the play in. Our young guys especially Sengun and Jalen have a one to two year window to see if they can lead us to the playoffs. If they can the trade talks will die down if not Jalen Sengun maybe even Cam or Jabari might have to do some house shopping in Phoenix or Cleveland together in the next year or so. As for Reed love the pick he makes the most sense for us. He can shoot he can pass and he fits this team like a glove meaning he can play with Jalen as the PG. He can play with Fred off ball and depending on who has the ball he can play SG/PG with Amen. He the perfect fit for this team and not to mention Fred is the perfect mentor for him since their games are so similar I can’t wait to see what he does in summer league Also he can do some two man game with Sengun and Sengun finally has a guy he can pass too to shoot some threes 🥲. Not really sure who would be Reed’s non-white comp would be. But if I had to guess, I would say a shorter Ray Allen with passing

Reed Sheppards comps is Payton Pritchard, TJ Mcconnell, or Jimmer Fredette. Stop comparing him to guys 6'4 and up or guys that actually played PG like Mark Price. This is a bad pick and we're trying to find away to justify it.
@RobertLandHoustonSportsTalk
@RobertLandHoustonSportsTalk 7 күн бұрын
McConnell is not a 3 pt shooter. Fredette had 4 yrs of college & shot 40% from 3 - not 53%. Pritchard not exactly a good passer

I'm not a Jalen hater but I see us drafting reed as the jalen green replacement. I like jalen but I don't think he fits with what we want to do. He is not really a defensive guy, he has a lot to do to become a consistent and efficient scorer and he is not a primary facilitator. He would be better on a more offensively minded team that will let him cook

Reed not replacing Jalen. If anybody replaces Jalen, it would be Cam
@badmontad

I meant replacing his spot in our core 6. Not his role on court. You're right Cam and amen basically already provide the athletics and shot creation that jalen should be providing

White player=High IQ? The guy hasn't even played one game yet has been anointed having such great basketball knowledge
@ericmausbach1808

Scouts watch them play basketball, and when they make plays that ordinary players don't make (not based on athleticism), then that player is considered high IQ. Many smaller players like a VanVleet, Brogdan, or Curry that don't rely on crazy athleticism or length, need to have high basketball IQ to make it in the league. Knowing how to use your body to shield defenders, create shots, using angles and changing speed, knowing when to help on defense, awareness and anticipation. Many of the things they said about Curry, they're saying about Reed. There's a ton of draft busts that had great measureables and athleticism. Him being a high IQ player, has nothing to do with him being white.

@@ericmausbach1808 They also tend to last longer in the NBA because injuries that slow them down don't cripple their game the way it does for guys who rely on burst and uber-athleticism.
