Houston is correct. Roughly 3 miles from the downed transmission towers. Electric was out for 6 days.

Derecho is Spanish for straight, and the storm is a straight line, so I think it fits

Both tornado and derecho are Spanish words, Raúl Castro. Since tornado refers to a "turning" wind, when they needed a term for a destructive straight wind, they called it the Spanish word for straight, "derecho."

Gessner and Clay here. Our neighbor’s weather station clocked the winds at 104 mph in our neighborhood during the storm.

weather stations are notorious inaccurate when it comes to the wind. Sounds like his was pretty in line with what radar showed that day. They need to be 30m from any objects in an open field and 10m high for wind. For temperature, they need to be at 2m height enclosed shelter protecting it from sun ( i.e. shade).

@@danielelise7348I recorded this storm, but I got rain water in one of the microphones. I usually record the audio only, since that's more than enough for me. I started to record every storm since 2019. I feel like you would have loved being here that year. Tropical storm Imelda brought extremely heavy rains in the morning of September 19th. I have never seen so much lightning in my life like I saw that day. Not even during Hurricane Harvey

just wait until you have to pay 20,000 to fix a roof, or a tornado flattens your house. Storms can be fun away from towns, but when they impact you they are no fun at all

Most garages are full of "stuff" and/or made into another living space. Plus many of the huge trucks people are driving now are too big to fit in the garage.
