This week we celebrated "World Peace Day" but it is also marked the 10th Anniversary of the "Battle of Hangberg"
On thar particular day, 10 years ago, a violent clash broke out between Police and Residents of Hangberg, in Hout Bay, after people were served eviction notices. Many people were seriously injured and many homes demolished.
As a cosmopolitan suburb with its diverse people, it has the ability to demonstrate that through collective pain and action, a community can emerge united in its diversity and create social harmony and inclusion.
2 weeks ago, the City of Cape Town, together with their entourage, paid Hangberg a surprise visit to identify the next structure to be demolished.
Tomorrow, we celebrate Heritage day and the City once again displays their deep pride in our country, by showing up in Hangberg today with six police vans.
The rest are probably still on their way;
Happy Heritage Day!
