7-Eleven is the world's first and largest convenience store chain - worth nearly $37 billion. It has over 70,000 stores in 17 countries and the most locations in Japan, where sales are more than double.
But, it hasn’t always been this way.
7-Eleven once rejected the idea of opening a store in Japan. And long before then, the business was only an ice block store - up until a junior employee took a chance on pitching a bold idea to his boss.

If you purchased 3 dollars you’d get around 3-6 stamps and 10-15 stamps for 10 dollars. You can use these stamps to buy anything in 7/11 because the currency is written on the stamps, or use it to exchange for special products. There used to be dozens of 7-11's in the Memphis area, but by the early 90s they all left. There are no 7-11 stores in the Memphis area now.🤦🏾‍♂️😞 I used to love their Coke slurpees, foot long chili cheese hot dogs and a big bag of Doritos.😋

Oddly here in Dallas Texas we probably have some of the crappiest 7-Elevens. They are dirty inside and out with employees that can't put their cell phones down and could give a s***about service.

It's sad that it failed hard in Indonesia. They banked on the wrong strategy of making 7-11a hangout place for young people. It did work as a good hangout, but young people don't buy much, other from a drink and few snacks, and just hang out there for hours using the free wifi.

Heh, I can see the old Southland Building from my condo. I can also see 1 Arts where their next US HQ was. There is actually a pretty cool 7Eleven in front of 1Arts, they tested a lot of cool technology there. They moved out to suburbia though. Coppell, I think.

Why did the Japanese have to license from 7-11 to open stores in Japan to sell Japanese food? Is there a patent on keeping a store open for longer hours? What technology exactly was the Japanese licensing?

Japan & US business marriage collaboration or partnership. So imho it could have been any US business having vision to sell convenient services in Japan 🗾 So then US could sell American food brands in Japan. US managers and executives can gain experience working in Japan. Japanese workers can learn new American systems, logistics, management styles, food & hospitality trends. Thus, peaceful ✌️ 🕊️mutually trade coexistence is a Win Win for both countries.

Tbh im not sure why they had to lisence 7-11 instead of like making their own brand back then, but my guess is that by lisencing they can get like logistics and marketing help? Especially since it was a new concept back then
@acemoto2319
@acemoto2319 2 жыл бұрын
@@happuhelon I think free trade agreement between both countries allows US food brands (Kellogg, Mars, Coca-cola etc) to sell in Japan, thus food diversity or cross culture food exchange makes everyone happy. Japan also enjoys American foods.

In 70s,80s,90s and til mid 2000s....loved 7/11 for three things ...huge sodas, pizza sticks and comics. Yes. If you were in an area with NO bookstores, 7/11 was an easy place to pick up all the latest comics. I think the last comic I got at a 7/11 was a Spiderman with alternate cover with Obama. Today....hardly any comics or mags but the pizza sticks still rock. I understand we might get a Wa-Wa here....lol....which is a smidgen nicer 7/11. My closest 7/11 is 18 miles away
