The assembly instructions are much simpler than an IKEA chair and just as comfortable. Thanks Dan.

Tools in the toolbox for sure. You could add a back made from a few sticks, cover with the blanket, and instead of wrapping around your feet, throw the loops around a couple of stakes set in front of you. Length isn't really important then, because you can scoot rearward until the back pad is at the angle you want. This is cool.
@Jonsoh811
@Jonsoh811 2 жыл бұрын
Being 200 pound, wouldn’t that pull out the stakes? Atleast with the soft soil here… Als the rope or webbing would probably slide down… I think. Although I really want this to work.
@jimmeyers8960
@jimmeyers8960 2 жыл бұрын
@@Jonsoh811 Naaa. Angle the stakes away from you, can't see 'em pulling out. If the soil is that soft, there are multiple techniques for that. Even sand, if you want this to work bad enough (bury a large diameter stick in the sand to make a 'T' shape with the paracord). As for sliding down, I'm thinking make a square frame out of sticks and bank line. Assume four sticks to make a picture frame. I'd attach the paracord to the frame at the top, not just wrap it around as in the video. Fill in the frame with loose sticks, or tie them loosely to the frame. Cover with blanket, if desired. This would also have the advantage that the stakes could be angled somewhat away from the back to allow more freedom of movement. I know this is more effort than Dan's, but not that much. Two stakes (which you may already have) and a quick lashed frame filled in with loose sticks. I can think of all kinds of variations on this, but it's probably a lot faster than the traditional bushcraft camp chair.

Just tried this with mule tape and it's really comfortable. Especially for someone like me with a bad back that can't just sit on the ground without some sort of support. Thanks for the fun idea!

Just made this...and it's cool! Love the simplicity 🙂. My daughter suggested using a 1" strap for comfort on the back - and boy did that help a ton! Also, I'm not as broad shouldered as Dan. I found using my belly button as a reference point for doubling back much more comfortable. Overall a real hit 👍

Quick note about ropes and nerve damage: you have a nerve running along the outside of your upper arm in that little divot made by your muscles, so try to keep from cutting that off, as it can cause long-term (potentially permanent) damage. If you feel tingling, numbness, cold, or pain in your arm, be sure to adjust the cordage away from that divot or take it off. Uhhh don't ask why I know this... ^.^;

I kept old chair backs, art deco style, about 4-5 in high and they have a really nice curve to them. I had the idea of stringing 3 of them, tie to a tree and stretch the whole thing with your feet and you have a half-suspended long chair. I bought a hammock and dropped that idea but... using this design and only 1 of the chair backs it can work anywhere, much more portable and no tree!

Thanks, Dan. Heckuva slick idea! Maybe 2 pieces of cord, with a bandana tied in between to cushion your back? Now, I’m working on how to add a cup holder into one of the side cords. A holder about the size of a frosty beer can would be nice, I would think? sigh Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
