Ok, so here is a question: . Is it a cult or is what the bible said would happen, really happening? . Consider this: . I tell Jehovah's Witnesses to go through the narrow gate that is on the cramped road leading to life. . Matthew 7:13-14 “Go in through the narrow gate; because broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and many are the ones going in through it; 14 whereas narrow is the gate and cramped the road ** LEADING OFF INTO LIFE ** and few are the ones finding it. . I ask them to read what Jehovah said would happen at the time of the end that is in every Christians bible and yet, few are the ones finding it: . Isaiah 66:5 Hear the word of Jehovah, YOU men who are trembling at his word: “YOUR brothers that are hating YOU, that are excluding YOU by reason of my name, said, ‘May Jehovah be glorified!’ He must also appear with rejoicing on YOUR part, and they are the ones that will be put to shame.” . [Name of person] is no longer one of JEHOVAH's Witnesses ---->> "excluding YOU by reason of MY NAME" . I ask them if they can see Jehovah's promise to disfellowshipped Jehovah's Witnesses: . "He must also appear with rejoicing on YOUR part"! . I then warn them that, if they go through this narrow gate they will lose their family as a consequence of the Watchtower Societies shunning policies. . Then I ask them to read what Jesus Christ said about everlasting life: . Mark 10:29-30 Jesus said: “Truly I say to YOU men, No one has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the good news 30 who will not get a hundredfold now in this period of time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, with persecutions, and in the coming system of things ** EVERLASTING LIFE ** . I then ask them if they want to live forever. . I also tell them that they can leave the organization and their congregation with dignity by telling everybody that they believe Jehovah, Jesus Christ and everything else in the bible. . Walk out with your head held high and jump for joy when you do. . What Jehovah said would happen, is now really happening! . That's Good News ................... right! . Jesus said: “Truly I say to YOU men, No one has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and FOR THE SAKE OF THE GOOD NEWS. .

I am not into religion. What blows me away is how similar it is to a lot of corporate or government jobs. Primary difference is there are no "love bombs" to draw you in to corporate/government jobs. There is indoctrination, fear, group-think, conformity enforced by fear of losing job, etc. etc. Oh sure, I see how it is different, but it is mostly the same.

@@SunriseLAW just to follow on to your comment, the twelve-step programme adopted by "addicts" via a group/cult is also adopted by corporate firms to "indoctrinate" their emplpyees. There is a load of positives but the people who are in control have their own agenda that is not shared. I know exactly what you mean.

I was coming to the comments to say that I'm actually speaking on this topic at Church this Sunday. I choose to continue practicing my religion with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I see how it adds value to my life, and explains some experiences I have had that I value and that are fundamental to my personal identity. But I see a lot of imperfect humans perfectly hurting others in different congregations that I have been in. I was so happy I was asked to speak during second hour on ministering, and why it shouldn't be something shrouded in anxiety or burnout. The hardest years of my life were when we lived in Utah. To me, Utah and the surrounding areas is a perfect example of why diversity of thought matters, and why voices shouldn't be silenced. I met so many people so bitter towards the Church because they felt like their voices were drowned out. I hope you have found healing by leaving the Church, and I hope you also have ways to nourish your spiritual health, as well, that bring you healing. I'm such a fan of therapy!! And diversity of thought. It gets tiring, reminding people that it's okay to be their genuine selves and hold different opinions. It's okay to change your mind. It's okay to realize a belief you held may not be a belief that strengthened your spirit. It's okay to march to a different beat or no beat at all. I feel like people forget these things.

EX-Morman here too! I was curious to see if active Jehovah's witness members would be on here, kind of like active Mormon members are always commenting on ex Mormon members videos, trying to convince people in church is true and belittling them with judgment. Pleasantly surprised to see that this wasn't the case!

Thank you for sharing this - I have a dear friend who is a jehovah's witness. I worked up the nerve to try to share with him that he is in a cult, and I did. But, he went right into protecting the Watchtower Society. The more I have learned about this cult - the more I feel overwhelmingly sad for those who are in bondage, a mental prison - The watchtower Society really makes me angry - they are abusing people - all the while convincing them that they are the GOOD GUYS. I am a bible believing Christian - when I accepted Christ I found unconditional love, grace, true joy and FREEDOM. I so wish my friend could find the same - but he hasn't spoken to me in 3 days and knowing the way the WS works - I doubt I will ever speak with him again. Anyway, thank you for what you do - If you help even one person escape from the Watchtower Society - you have done a beautiful thing.

I spent 40 yrs as a JW. They prey on people that are struggling in their life. When an elder, pioneer and WT conductor lied to me then tried to put the blame on me is when I did the unthinkable, and started watching videos that witnesses call Apostate material. That’s were I found out about the pedophiles and the cover up. The more I read the more I wanted out. So I wrote a simple statement to the elders that I no longer desired to be a witness. The announcement was on July 4, 2018. Independences day. Now I had my freedom back. My husband is a JW. I filed for divorce and we are close to dissolving our marriage after 45 yrs.

@@user-pw6ei2mn7x Thank you. I’ve always been independent. My husband was born into it. He was the baby with 3 older kids to help him or do it for him. He never learned anything about life. All he ever knew were field service and meeting. I never realized just how uneducated he was until after we married. Everytime I would try to teach him something he would say I was criticizing him. In 2020 I got a service dog. He would tether my dog by the collar when we got in the car. I showed him that it always must be attached to his harness. It’s been almost 5 years and he still puts the tether on his collar. He still can’t tell the difference between a collar and a leash or a harness from a collar. All our marriage every time I try to ask him something his answer is always: I don’t know, I forgot or I don’t remember. I’m so sick of it that we don’t talk to each other anymore. Yet he won’t ever miss a meeting.

Wow! Your experience parallels mine; only my wife is still a JW and continues to absorb the "brain dead" "brainwashing" of the members. I was in 55 years as a publisher, Bethelite, minis. servant, elder for 14 years and just all round "company guy"! I'm hovering over the decision to divorce the woman, as she has become a dictatorial, self righteous, judging, insubordinate, condescending bitch that I can barely stand to live in the same house with her. Married 42 years and with me dealing with a disability; money is much tighter and my place is relatively cheap to live in; considering I have 2300 sq. ft. So moving out is a tough decision. I was removed by the personal bias and personal opinions of the 2 or 3 elders; not for any scriptural reasons. So I've written the Society with a well researched and scriptural rebuttal that would ask them to remove these quack heads from their position, because they have slandered a faithful brother and have held my family hostage by their evil shunning practices which violate clear scriptural direction. I have found durable and real peace in the arms of my heavenly Father and His son. I pray that you too will recognize that Jehovah cares for those that look to HIm every day; whether we belong to an organization claiming to worship him or not. May the peace of God that excels all thought be with you too, sister.

@@connormusic9274 Thank you for your kind words. I have had a very similar situation. My soon to be ex told me last week that I was mentally ill (thanks to watchtower) psychotic. He has no idea what the meaning is. I live in a 2,400sq. ft. home that my parents had built on 7 acres. I’m disabled too and unable to maintain it on my own. It has a million dollar view which I hate to give up. I live off my VA compensation and social security. I’m fortunate that I never had any family to shun me like so many others. I’ve come to the conclusion that there isn’t just one true religion. But if we simply try to please God in the way we conduct ourselves daily that God will bless us with ever lasting life. I live in an equal asset state so with that I can take my half and found another home.

This is an awesome video! I started waking up in 2019? Was never disfellowshipped but still labeled an apostate. I started going to an early Bible study group at a local church and that was an experience! The first time I was going to prove the past wrong but a lot of what was said sounded like what I had been taught but I think it was because I grew up reading the Bible so I knew different stories from the Bible. When I first went into the church I was so scared like it was such an evil place and why was I even there and what was I THINKING. Then all of a sudden I had so many questions and did not know where to get answers. I have come to realize after a few years that no one has all the answers and my cousin started listening to a few Bible scholars and gradually I bought different Bible translations and started comparing things. I’m still a work in progress and I was able to keep in touch with my witness siblings for a few years because we live in different communities. However my brother in law was scheduled to give a talk in my congregation and now they don’t communicate with me anymore. My sister says we don’t have anything to talk about anymore. Kinda right because all she ever talked about was the org. I never realized what a huge box I was raised up in. Finally out at 60. I am the youngest of 5 siblings and have always been the communicator. They never called me unless I called first. I’m so sorry about this being so long. For years I have been watching exhausted videos and recently I got a book about the apostle Paul and studying the book of Acts. I also have read through the entire Bible for the first time ever. Anyway I may send this video to the pastor of the church I have been going to so he will understand more of what I have been going through.

🎯 Right on. They dont emphasize scriptural study & answering criticism of the bible & of church doctrine with scriptural reasoning. Not like they used to. And when someone tries to keep telling you WHAT to think instead of teaching you HOW to reason for yourself, that is brainwashing To me, in the congregation I grew up in in the 70s & 80s, we were encouraged to ask our own questions & argue among ourselves. Because those arguments led us to deeper scriptural knowledge. Basic common sense & logic were encouraged & applied. Today the difference is very stark. The GB have made a 180° turn

As a JW you are tought from birth that there is nothing for you in this life except to serve the organization with "paradise" or "the real life" as they like to say, coming in the NEXT life. When all that goes away one can be left with no hope, no purpose especially when being indoctrinated for some 40 years. Its good to hear life experience from others and how they have coped. Thank you

@WakeingUp

@@Christen-ed2qj Im not sure if my wife will ever wake up. Sometimes it feels like i'm making progress with her but then other times she gets really worried and upset about my "salvation" when i raise issues. All her family and our kids are fully in so even when she might start questioning things i'm sure subconsciously she cant go there. I can't help but feel though that eventually the discrepancies with the teachings and the hypocrisy they show, that it will reach a tipping point someday for her to wake up. One thing i started with was i told her when they ask for absolute "obedience" even when it "doesn't make sense from a human standpoint" that that is not compatible with the Bible on so many levels. For one, the scripture in Hebrews that they always use to demand obedience is not what it seems on the surface. Just like the example they always use for the varying words for love in the Bible there is also for obedience. In Hebrews the word for obedience involves being PERSUADED to obey, far from absolute obedience when it doesn't make sense. There are Hebrew words for absolute obedience but it is never used in reference to those taking the lead. Another one i have brought up is the scriptures that say not to be afraid of the prophet thats words do not come true. I show her where despite the WT claims to the contrary, WT HAS called themselves Prophets in the past and even the recent statement that listening to them is like listening to Jesus is clearly putting themselves in the position of a prophet. Considering the definition of prophet there are many other times that they show themselves to be acting as prophets even if they deny the title. Clearly their predictions/words have failed to come true so many times. Why would you consider the boy who cried wolf a reliable source of information that should always be followed? There are other things as well that i bring up but i always make sure i can show her from the bible or WT publications the proof. She doesn't like it but she does agree many times i am right but always goes back to "they are imperfect men". That argument does not work though with using the scriptures in conjunction with their teachings. Im hoping that death by a thousand cuts will eventually break through the cognitive dissonance. Sometimes she confronts me about if i believe that the GB is who Jehovah uses to direct his people. I respond with I think they are used, but i tell her, as Geoffrey Jackson said, (he was being evasive with the Australian Royal Commission and was not really meaning that but those were his words) they are not the ONLY ONES used. I am compiling a document with scriptures and WT references highlighting many such issues. I have multiple pages worth. Its a running rough draft and a bit disjointed as i haven't had time to finish compiling and edit it. Every time i think i'm ready to edit it i think of something else. I would be happy to send it to you for reference.

@@WakeingUp I read all your arguments and the ones from this video, and from many other videos, writings on the internet, etc. The main point that is always pushing me back to the JWs as the true (or almost true) organization is what Jesus said: Matthew 7:16, "By their fruit you will recognize them." So when you look to the numbers of the organisation is clearly this is the only religious organization that is REALLY making good fruit and growing up. We could talk about other points I consider make it clear it's the true religion, like preaching, but the previous point alone is a strong one. I don't only mean the number of members, but the number of places to congregate, the number of countries where JWs are present, and the number of languages everything is provided. Many other governments, religions and companies have tried to translate their stuff to many languages as possible and to be present on as many countries as possible, but they're very far away from JW, very, very far away! So, to me it's clearly that this is something more than a human thing, because if it were, then would happen the same to other religions, companies and governments as I mentioned. Only God (Jehovah) is guiding the JW to accomplish these success. And yeah, it's quality over quantity, but at the same time, if you have something that is the truth, it's normal is growing and growing up, just like Jesus mentioned when saying that the true servants would move from being as little as a mustard seed (smaller than a been) to being as a mustard tree (which is super high, strong and robust). This last teaching from Jesus is very pointily as we are talking about the same object, a mustard seed that eventually and obviously grows in a mustard tree. So he suggested that the true religion or organization would move or start from the same source. That's were in a very pertinent way, Satan designed very dark times (thousands of years) to disappear any clue about the last true Christians, and all false religions started. What I mean is, if that wouldn't happened, eventually you'd have something very similar to JW: a group of people studying the Bible, using all humans resources to spreed the truth (radio, books, TV, internet), which would be only one religion as God has always used one true people like the Israelites, the Jews and eventually they would need a legal name because in these times you need to protect anything you produce under a personal or organisational legal name. Maybe we would be called the Jehovah's Christians, Jehovah's Servants, Jehovah's People... So, the point is that we really come from that mustard seed which is already the mustard tree. Maybe we are at the top of the mustard tree, or maybe it's growing up a little bit more.

I even noticed this censorship in certain churches, with pastors saying that we should stay away from the internet. We can think and do our own research on any topic, and, if anything, it would strengthen our beliefs (if our beliefs actually are true). I’m leery of anyone telling you not to do your own research, whether it be about your faith, the medical industry, history, science, etc. Thanks for your honesty!

Id love to show that scripture to the next JW I meet, somewhere from acts forward, where the congregation members didnt just accept what the speaker was saying. (Paul? Timothy? Titus? I dont remember) They wanted proof from the scriptures, & the speaker had to supply it to them Also jesus said "Woe to you, scribes & pharisees, hypocrites! Because you teach not god's laws, but doctrines of men" I left in 2014, shortly after they dumbed down the bible, dumbed down the songs, & began what I see as a program of centralized control using video presentations, instead of emphasizing scriptural study & scriptural reasoning

I was born and raised Jehovah’s Witness , and on Aug 12th, 2021, I prayed to Jehovah letting him know how much this religion has hurt my heart. Since I was born I’ve been told that God was going to destroy all who were not witnesses. I couldn’t do it anymore I prayed to God letting him know all the damage this religion has done in my life....I told God that all I wanted was his love not paradise especially knowing all the non-witnesses that I loved were dead and I would gladly give my life in exchange for my children that are not witnesses. I told him I could no longer assist meetings because this religion is making me think badly of him. I remember yelling in my head how I couldn’t understand how a loving God could do this knowing our imperfections...I was sobbing, overwhelmed with grief when all of a sudden I had a thought of : I would never hurt anyone. I felt it down to my bones, I instantly calmed down and felt at peace. That night as I was laying down, my whole body started with intense waves of vibration, I started to sit up and it kept going, then I just had this knowing not be afraid and I just relaxed and immediately I started seeing all these lights and I was in a tunnel of light. I kept thinking if my husband turned around I was going to be sparkling! Then I was inside of this most amazing light that was filling me with so much love, fractals of light were coming towards me and all I could hear was I love you, you are loved over and over again. I felt all the pain and hate and hurt melt from my core, I was just floating there in unimaginable love and bliss, I thought of my kids and then it just melted away and I was sitting in bed. I was drunk with Gods love for 2 weeks, I was healed from a full body skin illness I had been suffering for 3 years. I haven’t been back to any meetings since. Haven’t spoken to any elders about what happened just my mom and husband her reaction was not surprising, immediately told me to talk to an elder. I know they will say it was demonic, but how can a love so complete not be from something so pure? Because of this experience, I started researching and was blown away by THOUSANDS of accounts of others who have had this out of body experience called NDE or STE, I’m telling you it’s mind blowing how death has been held over us. Everyone says the same thing: God is not Judging us WE are!!! I still pray and feel Gods Holy Spirit with me something I had never felt in the Kingdom Hall! I just want others to know that God is not in the religious buildings/kingdom hall he is in our hearts everywhere we go, always. He does not give us the spirit of fear, anything in the Bible that causes fear is a misinterpretation. Jesus came to free us from the lies and it’s happening again, we are the new scrolls...the countless witnesses of how religions are a snare! Jesus said it was done! He didn’t say now we have to follow another religions rules to inherit the kingdom! My Father and I share the same will that ALL WILL BE SAVED!

Question, test. If you dare to do just that, you will be punished, ostracized, or booted out for it. Undeniable Idolatry.

@bagelb - Congrats!! 🎉 I began to wake up from the JW's (Jehovah's Witness) by reading about Mormons and watching videos entitled.."I was a Mormon". Then John Dehlin's excommunication was broadcast on television. I started following him and I noticed a ton of similarities between the JW's and the Mormons. This was an eye-opener for me!! After that I got the courage to go to KZbin and look up.. "Why do people leave the Jehovah's Witnesses faith"...that's when I really started waking up! I became obsessed listening to all ExJW stories on KZbin and the FEAR of the "so called" apostates that we are taught to detest started to become a different reality, they are just people telling their experiences when they were an active JW and why they left. So all the stigma started to dwindle. Then I branched out and started looking into Seventh Day Adventist, Scientology, Christadelphians, The Brethren, Christian Science. I started noticing the parallels between all the religions, and it runs deep...no questioning, no doubting and everything comes from the top down. The rank-and-file are just the followers with no personal self, no individuality. After you wake up and start seeing these things it can take a toll on you, especially if this is the only thing you have known all of your life. Therapy is definitely a must when waking up! I can now honestly say that life is better on the outside! 💯

In most cases, those folks were born into JW families and their religious mindset becomes their future. I hope they see your video to shake them up. And I agree with you that we should all assess our lives regarding a lot of social topics. In fact, when I woke up from the cult, I realized that mind control came in different forms.. corporate, social media, politics etc. This was another awakening for me lol . Thank you so much for watching my video and your kind words truly appreciate it ❤️

This world has many problems. The solution is still the kingdom. Millions died ..you cannot bring about their resurrection . God will. Justice will only he achieved for black slaves who died on slave ships , and the millions of others, by means of Gods king Christ Jesus. I'm aware of the truths you think you've come to know. They are half truths. Prophecy is what all who oppose God and his representatives hiloght..that YHWH is the God of true prophecy .. What he foretells, comes to be.

@@ownup987 What awakening are you talking about? That you should take part be active and immerse yourself with the world? There’s no other hope for this planet and mankind but Jehovah’s Kingdom where Christ is now reigning in heaven. What true potential you are talking about? Being rich and famous? Or can you be specific please? What is more better potential than living forever in a paradise earth without death, pain, sickness or whatever that hurts humans today? Is there any other religious denomination that offers better solutions for this world other than Jehovah? Mostly the choices are either hell or heaven as Christendom taught. But knowing who will go to heaven and why. Knowing what really hell is, nothing but a false doctrine. It’s more than a 100% assurance that on Jehovah have solutions in store for humans and the earth alike. So now after leaving Jehovah you have achieved your true potential? In Jehovah even death can still have hope. Away from Jehovah, death is the end game for everything.

@ownup98 Thank you for making this video. I've been off and on waking up over the years and now the last year or so became PIMO. I experienced spiritual, verbal and emotional abuse from the elders and had enough. Your video has helped me see that others go through an emotional and mental struggle through the deconstruction phase and/or when treated like garbage from the elders. This video helps me see what I can do to heal and be free of the hold this religion has on us via brainwashing and indoctrination. PS: There's actually 17 words in those 10 points 😁😆 Keep up the great work! Cheers from Canada

I love this vid. My experience of fading was similar, over time I felt too many unloving inflicted hurts built up and I just couldn't stand the nonsense way the talks were sounding so I never went back. My journey happened at the start of co vid too, during lockdowns I did so much yoga, which isn't allowed, and felt like I was being true to me as I had always wanted to do it. The watchtower is a joke, I can't believe I did it for so long.

I was raised JW and my mom has been one 60 years. I myself am a Buddhist and Taoist practitioners after leaving the JWs 30 years ago. To be honest the only problem I have with JWs is they worship the religion and the ones who have been in for decades are afraid to leave or change views. My mom refuses to even talk religion with me in fear she disrespects Jehovah or speaks agains the organization . I don’t try to change her because 60 years of indoctrination are hard to break. It works for though to a certain degree but nor really because she lives in fear and the organization teaches nothing about the mind, meditation or how to alleviate negative emotions like Buddhism does. She suffers anxiety and depression but will never even take advice on anything that goes against her beliefs. I have tried to show her different videos on different views of the Bible and she literally started calling Jehovahs name and was afraid to look at a video on different views of the Bible. They do become indoctrinated and fear keeps them bound. If I were Christian i would be Catholic or orthodox but now a witness. The funny part is I offered to go with her because as Buddhist it wouldn’t matter if I went with her to a meeting. The only thing she says is there will be resurrection of the righteous and unrighteous, me being the unrighteous. The religion does very little for her in helping her with her mental health. In fact the religions is a cause for her anxieties and fears. I am happy you left and hope you find a spirituality that resonate with you. Buddhism and Taoism has been a godsend for me. I have healed from severe depression and anxiety due to the wisdom gained from lord Buddha. Amituofo ☸️☯️☸️

I am 67 years old, life disappointment was wasting my life! The first part of my life with being raised as a Jehovahs Witness and believing everything was truth. The second part of my life was researching all the Jehovah's Witnesses doctrine for bible truth. The more thought and years I wasted trying to find bible truth the more doctrine lies were discovered. All Watchtower doctrines are lies and spiritual manipulation. Not one doctrine! I could have been a victim of no blood transfusion which changed my life. Parent packed up and left another state do to threats of taking me away. Then I had no more health issues. Left elementary school do to the blood isssues. Forced to drop out of school because Armageddon was near,1975. Married my pedphile before age 18 because there was no one to date. Teenagers are limit to only dating Jehovahs Witnesses. I never found True Love when it is conditioned. Most young women in 60 and 70 were encouraged to drop out, get married, and pioneer! Basically my life was ruined by this religion and JW mother. Good news, I went to college after leaving this cult!

My boyfriend is in a very similar spot as you were. He's not JW, He's mormon, but their tactics are very similar (tho I'd say their lore is much more wild than JWs.) He's on his mission right now and thankfully, he's finally starting to question things there. He's completely isolated there with his only form of communication home being through emails on Mondays. Really as I watch this video, I saw a lot of the boxes being checked for what I've learned with that religion (lovebombing, cognitive dissonance, conformity, spiritual abuse. Its so bad there.) It's wild how I learned all this stuff since I'm not even mormon. I never was, but I was able to pick up on these things. I love my boyfriend so much, and I know that if somehow I'm able to get a real conversation (which his cult is never gonna allow while he's there) he'll be able to break free and realize what's going on and finally come back home.

I too am raised Roman Catholic. Over the last year I started studying my faith. I'm blessed to be born catholic. Al you need to do is use the BITE model made Steven Hassan. @@meggo329 I like parts of the experience of my growing up in Catholic School and was even an Alter Boy. There is a beauty in the ceremony, churches, music and community. I can appreciate that. I looked at the BITE model you mentioned. I would agree the Roman Catholic Church today would not be classified as a cult. For me, I grew up in New Orleans, segregation was still present. I went to Catholic school, we had not one black kid in our school. We lived one block from the black neighborhood. I just came to view things differently.

I agree it is not like it was at it’s peak. You are very much correct on that. Catholicism has taken to not instructing many passages from the bible. It is evolving. My main concern is when primates are told by other primates to believe something on no evidence. I can’t say I know a great deal of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. I understand they consider us outsiders dead to be saved. I know they have no windows on their places of worship. It seems they are only allowed fellow JW as friends. My Uncle (also an Elder) is no different but if he didn't get his way would call you selfish. He weaponizes his authority and when you turn to say something "ah ah ah.... What you tell me your telling that to Jehovah." I wonder how he would react if I repeated Jeffrey Winders comment "The Governing Body is neither 'INSPIRED' ......."

Great personal account of the cult exit process. The ways cults recruit and indoctrinate is pretty universal- the same processes in the same order- one thing not mentioned is that cults use deception to recruit which can be in the form of front groups (the JWs currently seem to be using mental health issues with them as the cure), but can also take the form of a bait and switch. Steve Hassan has some excellent books on the process- he was recruited into the "Moonies". Another big tool cults use is phobia- something terrible will happen if you leave/question doctrine etc. Most cult recruits are intelligent and well-meaning people, somewhat idealistic and usually mentally and physically fit (because the level of energy required to recruit others is exhausting). Psychological experiments that are relevant to cult indoctrination include the Milgram compliance experiement, the Solomon Asch conformity experiment and the Stanford prison experiment. Humans are social animals and prone to adjust behaviour (and therefor beliefs) in order to fit in- we all think we are independent thinkers but we are far more prone to adapt ways that allow us to fit in than we are aware of- it is why testimonials are used in advertising- they are lousy evidence but, because they are written by people like us (or perceived to be) they have influence over buying decisions, same with celebrity endorsements. The work of Robert Cialdini on social psychology is really interesting- and highly relevant to how cults and high control groups can have such influence over intelligent people.

One of the hardest deprogramming tasks is selecting which of their doctrines to retain and which to discard. All cults and all churches teach some truth and some falsehoods. When we come out from among them, we must decide what is true and what is false. That's where prayer comes in handy; if anyone asks God for wisdom, He WILL grant it.
