This week, I’m trying out a new series called How-2-Do where I dedicate an episode to learning how to do a certain skill or task. In this case, I’ve really been looking forward to becoming a better welder, so I invited my good friend Blake over to help me setup and try out my new Arccaptain T200P TIG welder. This is a brand-new unit that’s very competitively priced (under $1,000) that really suited what I was looking for as I wanted to be able to weld both stainless steel and aluminum as that’s the majority of materials on most of my projects. Once setup, it proved to have many of the features I wanted and some new ones Blake’s never even seen before (spot welding). This is going to be a great addition to TwinStick Garage, and I can’t thank Blake enough for walking me through how to set it up and tips and tricks for how to use it - Blake even treats us to an amazing demonstration of how good he really is at this at the end of the video. Now I just need to spend some time in the seat and practice what he taught me…
Check out the link below for special promotional pricing on the TIG 200P from Arccaptain:
www.arccaptain...
Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for all the comments, suggestions, and support! Let me know if you like this new series idea and what other How2Dos you’d like me to put out.
Keep in mind, I know a little about a lot but not an expert in anything … just doing the best I can, learning as I go ... I do all my own stunts

I am 72 now, got a lesson in stick welding from my first boss in 1967. Pretty much welded the rod to the steel. Decided right then and there that it wasn't my gig. If I had a teacher like Blake, may have been a welder rather than a truck driver. Great job Blake.

One thing I noticed is that you'd move your hand as soon as you let off the pedal, but you need to leave it until the puddle cools, for the post-flow gas. If you move too soon, you expose the puddle to oxygen.

@@TwinStix It's just like any other skill. It just takes time and practice. The difference between a 100-hour welder and a 10,000-hour one is staggering though. Once parts of the technique become second nature, you'll focus more on the harder parts.

You need to get a pair of gloves like Blake has for TIG welding. You will find it much easier to do the welding rod shuffle than with those big bulky gloves, even if you only wear one on your left hand. I myself never wear a glove at all on my left hand but thats probably not good for you long term so I won't tell anyone to do that. You will learn with experiance what works best for you. Good luck, and with this new skill the possabilities are pretty much endless for fixing and modifing your projects.

I was wondering about the auto darkening shield. Does it wear down the batteries turning on and off while it's setting there on the table next to the welder? I don't know if it's your camera causing it or your shop lighting. From 8:16 to 15:02 the lens keeps flashing on and off. Is there a way to turn it off to save batteries? Or save the charge if it's rechargeable? Also wanted to say love the videos and I wish I had the money to have the toys you have!
@flyweldfabricate
@flyweldfabricate 5 ай бұрын
It really varies and depends on the brand of mask. Your really get what you pay for.. but depending on the budget and frequency of use you can do a few things to save batteries. Pull them out, turn on grind mode. Put in a box or bag. Or turn the sensitivity to low.. All these should help save battery life

I'll watch this video More than one time. It was a very good introduction to TIG welding, and the Hands-On demonstration of a machine like that is just priceless. I just checked their website out and looked at that machine. I can weld with a oxygen acetylene torch ( very old school) and a filler rod, this would be a great machine for me to start TIG welding on. Actually as Blake described welding on aluminum that's exactly the way I oxygen accetylene weld on steel. Thanks Blake and Mark for this very good video.
