I hate that companies are trying to lock out ECUs. If they're technically RACE bikes they should be allowing people to tune the bikes. Emissions dont matter here. Regardless if they're capable of being plated in some states, emissions shouldn't matter.
@TheGardenSnake13 сағат бұрын
The government is even cracking down on pure race machines in certain areas. In California if you buy a street legal vehicle and turn it into a pure race vehicle it still can’t have modified exhaust or tuning. I have no idea how they’d enforce that but technically they’re trying to.

The Exhaust Law is also based on db limits so hits all cars on tracks close enough to have people to get made about it, Laguna Seca is the main reason... stock m2s or gt3 rs getting stopped for breaking a law is kind of funny in a fucked up way

You are right about the 690/701. Those aren't real sumo's. But if you only ride street and dont want insane maintenence, they are the best choice. I do like the Sherco a lot. We can get it plated aswell. Its the same price as a 500exc, but no need to buy all the sumo parts.
@thumpertorque_13 сағат бұрын
I can ride my 690 2 hours on the highway to NYC and come back. Even can take a passenger. Can't say the same about motocross sumos. They're good for tracks and twisties but will make your life miserable on long highway rides.

Couldn't agree with you more! I daily my 690 SMCR also go on rides with my girl or daughter on the back. The bike is best overall choice
@500Sander12 сағат бұрын
id argue the exc 500 is better if you buy used, the parts are great, the brembos are great stock and for the suspension if you really want to you can get 100kg springs which makes a crazy difference. All these parts like the full motomaster setup is something you do not really need at all, ive got a 320 flame disc with stock everything else and it bites hard on my exc.

Great comparison content. Thank you for that! I am wondering, though, why did you leave the TM Racing 450 or 530 SM out of the competition? They are road legal too, as far as I am concerned. That would have been a great comparison with the Sherco one.
@TheGardenSnake13 сағат бұрын
The TM isn’t available in the US along with a few other really cool brands. Like the SWM 500 SM would beat the Sherco but it looks like they’re not bringing it in now.

I kind of dislike calling the 690 a supermoto cause they are just too big, too heavy and the rear tank is a deal breaker, Its more of a supermoto+naked bike mix like the hypermotard for example. i have a 2023 exc500f and my ecu was not locked they could access it and change my mapping and they made it fit on my full titanium fmf system (200 dollars). Full motomaster kit is deff not comparable to anything stock for any supermoto whatsoever the brembos on the exc is perfectly fine as is or if you want it to bite hard you can buy a 320 flame disk from motomaster (200-300 dollars) though if you do get the 320 flame disc it will bite harder than any stock supermoto. Suspension is more like 200-300 dollars if you buy the springs and do the work yourself as i have on mine with full 100kg setup mainly for stunting but its adjustable. Exhaust is expensive and sumos are too but you can get deals just like the sherco with supermotos and akras from factory here in Europe though i have no clue about America.

I think a price you need to consider is dealer network, there are 2 licensed dealers in all of New England (Mass, VT, RI,CT NH and Maine) and they are 13 miles away from each other so might as well be 1 dealer.
@bilboswaggens29753 сағат бұрын
It just depends how far you want to go. I can build a RACE READY used crf450 including full motor rebuild for around 7-8k. Especially if you find one blown up. That’s shortened swingarm, triple, slipper clutch, wheels n tires, suspension, big brake kit and protection. Realistically any 17s will work if you own a lathe. Or at least just buy the rim and lace up the oem hub with new spokes to save some money. Once you start getting into street mods you gotta take into account cosmetics, lighting, paperwork. Definitely adds another grand. Either way. You could build 2 for the price of one of these if one were so inclined. My kx450 build sheet is at about 4k right now. I actually stole the suspension brakes and wheels off an aprilia rxv supermoto I found on marketplace 😂. A Hinson slipper is all I’m waiting to order now. Should be race ready for under 6k.
@raystillwell41502 сағат бұрын
As far as exhaust goes one of Ktm’s big selling points in the 2000’s was they came with an fmf exhaust, it wasn’t stamped in but assembly for them I remember hearing they make the frame engine and swing arm so you got talyon hubs excel hoops wp suspension pro taper bars acerbies plastics that was the “ready to race” slogan. Now suspension unless your riding to work to send it out and get valved and sprung for you is the best mod to a bike you can do! I use wer I take it off send it to them it’s $700 but my lil piglet runs track days, single track and some good ol hooliganism down stairs or jumping train tracks perfectly

I agree with anything with long service internals being a dual sport. It's a shame Aprilia doesn't make the SXV anymore as that one that could be on the level as the Shecro even though it got banned from racing by AMCA as it's a V-TWIN. It would be a good 2nd hand bike even though there not easy to find or get parts for. Also yeah suspension is madness. Spent £800 on an Ohlins rear shock from another bike to get it restored and re valve for my little 125 2stroke. Looking at 700-1000 for Fork cartridge kit lol.

@AjackLee411 сағат бұрын
@@TheGardenSnakeYeah supposedly the biggest issue was a complete failure of engine sealant or something on the first bikes, so if you have the engine fully rebuilt after you get it (LOL) then they're *kinda* reliable. Still though. 80+HP in a sub 300lb bike is insanity.

I don’t have any direct friends with them. More of people I’ve ridden with and that’s kinda a weird ask you know. I have jumped on a few and rode them for a few miles. The one I rode with a stock ecu would just stall every time I pulled the clutch in and sometimes pulling away. The other had a vortex and road completely fine.
