Leather craftsman Gerry Gallagher has over 30 years of experience repairing luxury handbags and is the owner of Leather Surgeons in Philadelphia. He shows us how he restores a burned Chanel Jumbo Classic Flap Bag. This includes disassembling the bag, cleaning it, cutting out the burned leather, quilting a new piece of caviar leather, replacing the lining entirely, and reassembling the bag.

Because it’s one less purse in the landfill. Because it’s made with real leather. Because it cost so much so it’s worth spending to repair. Because the owner is probably sentimental about it. Because it’s still got a lot of years left in it. Because it creates an income stream for excellent craftsman like this guy.

Well if there is history, and meaning about an item. Then it is inbetween, because people buy it in their original condition to remember the history. Or, people buy it once they are fully restored. Like that one painting, people bought it for an expensive amount, and then it got shredded (only half way). The price of that painting now is more expensive than the one when they bought it in one piece.
