WE never used a sand pump because we were not drilling much gravel. Though along a river once in a while it sure would come in handy. I think is cleans the hole better cause the dart on the bottom of the regular bailer leaves 4-5" of materials .

Thom, I only use a regular bucket if the sand is fine. My dad always called the sand pumper a sucker bucket. I’m glad you like the videoed. Anything you want to see in the future. Always looking for ideas.

@@cablerigoperator Thanks Gary I just love these old rigs. I have never been on a 33 W while it was running. Keep up the great videos !

This is great! How do you know how much water to put in? Just until it seems about right? Carrying water in a 5 gallon bucket looks tedious to me.

I need enough water to submerge the bucket. I only use a pail till I get my pilot hole done.

Gary I love your videos on the old Armstrong 33W !!! Wishing you and your family a very Blessed Christmas ! I would love to meet up with you sometime and spend a day with you . I miss the cabletool rigs. I told the wife when I retired I was buying another rig. She kinda informed me there was a better chance of Hades freezing over ! Ha Ha ha ! Are you using a water with some acid in it ? Looked like the bit and stem were turning color?

Just water and sometimes I add bentonite. Thanks and wishing everyone a happy and safe holiday season.

it seems like every other time you pull the sucker up, it has nothing in it. what's up with that?

Sometimes it will suck up a rock bigger that the check valve will let through so there ends up with nothing. This bucket will handle rocks around 1 inch.
