question, from the structure of this particular dam that you showed us, does that mean that theres a difference in the dams used to generate electricity and the dams just used for the sake of having a sort of reservoir?( which may also be used to transport water to various households for domestic purposes etc but not for hydroelectric generation) i had seen the structure of different dams and got confused between the dams without the structure in which the turbines and generators are. they have floodgates from which they release water but not the turbines or generator (or at least they werent visable, might have been someplace else but i couldnt be too sure)

Without the BCHydro system you would be complaining about a lack of electricity goddamn hippie or if we had done nuclear or coal or gas there would be complaints about that too (not to mention it would be expensive). The vast majority of BCs land is untouched we just had to do this to a very small amount of it. Also be thankful we aren’t dealing with greedy privatized power companies here

Why cannot we make use of a motor to rotate the Turbine instead of a Water from the dam. Can anyone tell / explain me the technical difficulties in it, if any. The electric power for the motor can be taken from the Electricity Generated from the Generator itself. For example if we are generating 100 KW of the electricity from the Generator, part of this electricity say 10 KW can used for the working of the motor. We can save our environment and have clean energy also saves huge money on building dam If we can make portable size of the entire unit, it will be great . Beneficial for the housing colonies, far way villages etc. in the third world countries
