How a Door kills Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Speedruns

Today we briefly looked at the most feared foe in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Speedrunning. Something much powerful than Aion itself.....

Not necessarily, some portion of the tree is still intact and leaning after the rest blows up, the door may be below the point of destruction and lives on (atleast until Tora strips the place for origin parts)

Yes it happens. There are definately ways to improve your consistency for the trick but its always a pain. I picked this speedrun up in october 2024 and this trick did worry me! My recent pb with a 3:56:12 has me terrified approaching this door. Luckily i got it third or fourth try

Actually had a friend who streamed a casual playthrough of Xenoblade 2, and rhat literal exact door was the bane of their existence because somehow, in spite of everything, they never pulled a single electric mastery blade throughout the entire game. This glitch would have been good for them to know lmfao

If you are not playing with the extra dlc cores it is actually quite easy to get screwed over with no electric. Its all up to the RNG gods!

Which is weird because on all my play throughs I always seem to pull Electra before chapter 3

Even if they're RNG cursed, you can get Herald from the sidequest in Tantal who has Electric Mastery 3.

I tried doing this jump on a casual playthrough and got it in like 2 minutes, but never got it again afterwards lmao

It requires very specific positioning. It is quite common for runners who practice it frequently to have just one of them days it does not work haha

@@Mythrigon Yeah... And I just looked it up. You can get to Earth Mastery Level 5 with Wulfric... ...but you need Earth Mastery 4 for his Affinity Quest... when he only gets up to 3 before that... 😭

You also need x1 fire blade to get through spirit crucible since you lose Pyra and brighid can't quite get her mastery to lv3

It is comical how much better the game would be, even from a casual perspective, if field skills were designed to make the game faster rather than slower(say, most checks were designed to unlock easier shortcuts, rather than being the only way to reach the respective mandatory/optional area. Some leveldesign checks actually make sense to be the way they are, but they should at least stay unlocked rather than needing to be passed every single time. Looking at all those leaping/High jump-checks in particular...). But it is easy to see how all of those "obvious ideas" fall through the cracks when the game is rushed for launch year and had most of its team taken for other projects.

2DE will not rework these checks, DE did not have changes like that.

@@lpfan4491 I mean they could just reduce the level requirement to 2 electric mastery and 4 focus so you don't need to grind or pull RNG blades to unlock it. Although focus isn't really an issue since both Pyra and Mythra have it. The bigger change would be making tutorials work better and also make navigating the UI more intuitive.

it's understandable why they did this since they were looking to openly encourage players to partake of the gacha mechanic and pace themselves rather than rush straight to the ending, their intent being a jrpg that a player will spend hours upwards to 100+ hours completing. it did make for an annoyance though since these skill checks constantly stonewalled a player and stalled progress. the game kinda spoon feeds the player bits and pieces all the way to the later half of the game and even when it does explain things it doesn't explain them such as the fact there's 2 particular combos, blade combos which add resistance to an enemy but adds an orb that can be broken during chain attacks to extend them and deal insane damage and blade combos which deal insane damage and cause enemies to drop gold and potential loot.

I still wonder how long it would take to do a "true 100% glitchless" run of the game... A run where you must obtain at least 1 of every item in the game, beat every enemy at least once, fill all rare blade affinity charts, find every chest, do every quest and so on... Basicly, a run where you play as an insane completionist, with some sort of OCD about doing everything the game let's you do at least once!

There are '100%' runs of this game but they do still use some glitches though i dont think its anything major. The criteria is all bosses, blades, Landmarks etc. I am unsure about charts and stuff though. This run clocks around the 40 hour mark.

It is actually an enjoyable speedrun, i have run plenty of games and really enjoy the XC2 run. But then again it comes down to just me loving XC2 and its a way to keep playing the game!

Field skills do nothing but slow the pace of the games story down to a crawl, even in normal play throughs.

The main issue with XC3 tutorials are they are sooooo sluggish and slow, atleast XC2 quickly stop you and you can mash them quickly

@@Mythrigon yeah, I think XC1 had the best balance of such, were they were fairly good tutorials and had some details but didn't tell you everything but on consecutive playthroughs you can mash threw them really quickly. On the whole tho, I think tutorial making in gaming is a lost art at this point.
