n Hong Kong, there are 78,581 households consisting of just two elderly people, according to the 2011 census. If one becomes ill the other must provide care. Lun Ming-fong (age 79) has been caring for her husband for 10 years but worries she may not be able to do it for much longer.

People forget the elderly were bright and vibrant people for many years or in their younger days, even into their 50s and 60s which is still youngish. How terrible the caregiver has the worry of being left alone. Younger people need to group together and dedicate themselves to helping the elderly. I'm sure many do though. Also the government or local bodies need rostered and salaried people to help the elderly and be part-time or full time caregivers to help the surviving partner as well. (Thank you christian family service centre people).
