Arkham Knight has aged so well. The graphics are so clean and the gameplay is so smooth that you can’t even tell it came out in 2015. Rocksteady outdid themselves with this one.

It looks completely chaotic, disorganized and invokes such a level of fear and panic and looks like everything is going wrong all at once, though with Batman all of it is actually super coordinated and planned. Yeah he is but in my opinion his childhood trauma is feeling separated from his parents and in my mind his parents were so selfless and giving that he figured the best way to keep them close was to act like they would and help people the best he could. That’s why I think the angsty and violent Batman people seem to love misses the entire point. He can be like that but only because Gotham is supposed to be a literal hell on earth and that’s how he’s supposed to not only survive but fight back. At his core though he wants what’s best for everyone in the city, including criminals. The DCAU got it perfectly right and any other iteration that doesn’t honor that is invalid in my opinion. Batman isn’t cool because of the smarts and gadgets and all, but because of his selflessness and discipline to put everyone else before him almost to the point of detriment to him. And the saddest part of all, like you said, is the only thing motivating him to do this is his insane love for his parents. Almost borderline obsessive to make him travel the world and crush his body and mind just to keep a promise he made as an emotionally overcharged kid. Gotham benefits from it but Bruce himself gets worn thinner and thinner and he wouldn’t even change it. Batman to me isn’t the guy who breaks bones and brands people and listens to nirvana in the rain to be moody and edgy, Batman is the guy who holds Ace’s hand even as she’s inflicting citywide damage because he doesn’t want her to feel alone as she’s dying or the guy who would buy Harley a dress she wanted and couldn’t get because of a misunderstanding just because he knows what it’s like to “have a bad day”, despite all the grief she’s given him.

That was beautiful. What makes arkham nights gameplay the best is that while yeah the core gameplay in these games was never hard, the gadgets allow for so much variety in your approach that you can make both stealth and combat so much more fun and tactical by carefully gaging how you're gonna take out every enemy. The gadgets also make new game plus worth playing fs since you can play with all the upgrades right away.

If they ever make another Batman game I think it would be cool if they had the normal eye look for the cowl, and had an option for if you wanted to you could turn on a setting where your eyes have that comic book white eye effect and could glow in the dark
